This afternoon's tea: @tealeaftheory pan-tossed Assam green tea from their small tea garden research "station" dubbed Koliapani. This was (again) from 2018, and (again!) I forgot to get to it. . . I test drove it last summer and found it note-for-note like a Chinese green. Then it languished in the backlog. In the months since, it's taken on slightly woodier notes, with a salted kelp underpinning, which I frankly dug the hell out of. A lot of the original red-bean and stewed veggie notes were still there, too. Notes you don't usually find in Assamese greens. . . First day of Fall, and I'm (fittingly) on my second-to-last helping of 2018, autumn flush, black tea from Pareng, Arunachal Pradesh. I never wrote about this small village garden last year, and that's something of a regret. Especially considering the fact I was able to try various lots from there over the course of the year. Some gifted by @rockymntraider of @tridentboulder; other invoices from the direct provider - @tealeaftheory. . As the year went on, I found that the later seasonal stuff had better notes at lighter temperatures. The "fluffy cloud" saltiness came through better at under a boil. For some reason, I've chosen to find a lesson in that in my new Libran astrological year ahead. . Never go "full boil", your best traits come out that way. Aaaaaaaaah yeah! Finally got my hands on some 2019 second flush Latumoni Assam. As some of you remember, this teensy garden produced some of my favorite Assams last year. High and above anything else I tried. I was lucky enough to try a whole year's worth of their product line. . . I was worried I wouldn't get to try one this year, given the late Spring harvest, and the quickness with which product was snatched up. (Apparently, I'm not the only one who likes this garden.) But, luckily, I found a sample amidst my second flush delivery from Lochan Tea. . . The leaves appear to mlbe about FGFOP grade, - cut but still tippy as all heck. The brew is *DARK* copper. Smell amd taste? All malt and honey with a dash of jaggery. . .
