Nursing his lukewarm water, Rainer leaned against the bar, surveying the Halloween party as it raged on around him. The costumes had ranged from impressive to ridiculous, and he’d made a game of counting how many he recognized. So far, he’d spied a unicorn, Freddy Kruger, Harley Quinn, and even that little blonde witch from the Netflix show he’d binged one weekend last month. The rest were practically unrecognizable. The one approaching him now had to have been among the skimpier costumes he’d seen, the top slit past the belly button and black wings spread wide. While he appreciated the balls it took to wear something that daring, much like his own costume, he wasn’t interested and he certainly didn’t have time for whatever was about to happen. He just about choked on his water as the girl stopped in front of him and he realized who it was. Coughing the last of the water he had inhaled out a moment later, Rainer took a deep breath. “Jesus, Tee, nice costume.”
