In the last plenary we watched a movie on intersex individuals. The common theme among them was having a choice made for them about their sexual gender assignment at birth. It's not fair that these important decisions about who they shall present as are made for them without their consent. In an ideal world, doctors and parents would wait until the child is of an appropriate age to be informed and make their own decision as to what gender they want to assign themselves. Furthermore, all the surgeries they have to give them an assignment end up being wrong, botched, or significantly decrease the pleasure that individual could experience during intercourse with a significant other. I sympathize for them and other intersex individuals who have that right of choice stripped from them. The freedom to choose is one that we are born with, and to be stripped of that in regards to your own life and a decision that impacts you in such a monumental way is abhorrent.

In the last plenary, the speaker was talking about her life story and during her testimony she touched upon the work life balance just a bit. She spoke about how she took time off from work after she had her daughter and devoted time to her child. But after taking time off she got back to work and was able to do both. She admitted to not always being there for her daughter's extra curricular activities but THAT'S OKAY! Some women seem to have this belief that you can't have it all. You either need to sacrifice a family in order to be successful with your job or sacrifice a job to be the best mother in the world. I personally believe that is BULLSHIT! You can have it all. Look at my mother, all working moms, they thrive in their careers and I'm sure their children still view them as mother of the year. In all, it's subjective and every woman is entitled to her own prerogative. I fully intend to be dominating my career while being the best mother I can be. I just want women today to understand that you CAN have it all. You can have your cake and eat it too ☺️ 🍰

In class we discussed sexuality and how one can present as a heterosexual individual but find themselves attracted to same sex individuals. Personally I am someone who undergoes this internal dilemma. Sometimes I do get confused and may question my own sexuality but after further discussion today I don't feel less or shy about the way I am. I now feel confident and have pride in how my brother and I will scope out women when we hang out in public, or have no shame in my overt flirtation with some of my girl friends who I find attractive. Than you for the class discussion guys and enabling me to have confidence I my sexuality and any questions I have with myself.
