A new town meant a new apartment and new job, as well as a new coffee shop on the way to said work. You were already running late, having miscalculated the time it would take you to get ready and walk to your new office...not a way to make a great first impression.
Nonetheless as you weaved your way through the foot traffic of Coruscant, you knew that coffee was a must. And if you could get in and out quickly enough of the coffee shop you'd get there just in time to meet Ben for your first day.
You liked the old, but friendly charm of Dex's Diner as soon as you walked in. It wasn't too busy in the early morning hours and you were suddenly hopeful that maybe you wouldn't mess up your first day after all. You'd been so invested in looking around at all the various patrons - that you just knew had colorful stories to tell - that you completely forgot to look in front of you and immediately walked into a wall.
It had felt like a wall at first, a soft one, but something strong nonetheless. A small sound of surprise left your lips as you looked up and found dark, curious eyes watching looking at you intently.
"I am so sorry," you stammered out nervously as you took a step back and looked him over. He was handsome, more handsome than you thought any man had the right to be. He had a mop of dark brown curls, and even richer brown eyes, and warm brown skin. His full lips were curved into a lopsided little smile as he made sure you were okay as well. Right now it was suddenly hard to focus on anything but the man in front of you; the dark green suit would have looked tacky on anyone else, but on him it was just right, "a-are you okay?"
"Fine, just fine," oh. Was he supposed to sound that good? Your brain was surely mush by now, "I was the one that walked into you - are you alright?"
"Yes," you nodded, hoping he couldn't hear the wild pitter patter of your heart, "I've never been here before and was looking around and trying to hurry because I'm already running late for my first day at my new job and -"
"Breathe," a warm, strong hand found your shoulder as he gave it a gentle squeeze. Electricity shot through your whole body as the contact, "you'll be okay, just relax.”
How were you supposed to relax in his intoxicating presence?
“Okay,” you nodded lightly, swallowing the lump that had welled up in your throat, “this is fine. I’ll get my coffee real quick and be on the way and it’ll be fine. Mr. Kenobi won’t suspect a thing.”
“Oh, you’re working for him? He’s wonderful, I’m sure you won’t have any issues with him,” he seemed so confident that you visibly relaxed.
“Do you know him?”
“Yes - err, well, my father does. They work together on projects sometimes and I work for my dad so…yeah,” he reached into his pocket and pulled out a few bills before holding them out to you, “get the spiced latte, it’s the best thing here. And consider it on me, for holding you up. Tell Ben that Boba says hi.”
He - Boba - didn’t give you a chance to refuse the money as he gently tucked it into your pocket or to say anything else before he gently brushed past you and out the door, leaving you with a million questions and few answers. But Maker, did you want him to come back and talk for hours. But now was not the time for you to daydream about a mysterious man. You still wanted to make a good first impression.
Walking up to the counter, you only had to wait a moment before a large man with a kind face came around to take your order, “ain’t seen you around here before!”
“I’m new here,” you grinned, “on my way to my new job actually but wanted to get some coffee. Umm, can I get the ugh, spiced coffee?”
“Oh well that will have definitely been Boba,” he set about preparing the coffee before you could say anything else, “I swear he’s the only one that drinks that, but recommends it to everyone. A good kid, he is.”
“Oh,” was all you managed to say as you felt your face warm up. The man turned around and handed you your coffee, shaking his head as you held out the money for him, “are you sure?”
“Aye,” he promised, “it’s always nice to see a friendly new face around here. Today’s on the house, a little welcome to the neighborhood. Hope to see you around again.”
“Thank you,” you tucked the money back into your pocket, “I’ll definitely be back…”
“Dex,” he grinned at you, “owner and purveyor of Dex’s Diner!”
“I’ll be back Dex,” you waved as you headed out the door to hurry along to the giant building looming in the distance, “thank you!”
You were definitely going to be back, if not to see Dex and get more coffee (which was indeed delicious), then to try and see more of Boba. All it took was a few minutes and you were so eager to know more about the mysterious man.

You later found out that you didn’t just run into Boba, you ran into Boba Fett. Also known as the pride and joy of Jango Fett who ran one of the biggest children’s charities in Coruscant and who often did business with your new boss Ben Kenobi and liked to bring his son along to help. So yeah, needless to say you were hoping to see more of Boba at any given opportunity. You’d come here to work for Ben and his partner Anakin, but seeing Jango (who you could swear Boba was a younger carbon copy of) wasn’t too bad either. You really just hoped Boba would come along. There was just something about him that left you wanting more.
Too bad you never got the opportunity in the first few weeks working at your new job. You got to see Jango on a few occasions so you figured that would suffice for the time being.
That also didn’t stop you from going to Dex’s dinner most mornings before work, giving yourself time to sit and drink your coffee and eat some breakfast, hoping to catch sight of the illusive man. But the timing never worked out and you’d never come across him again. The wide variety of colorful personalities that frequented the diner, much as you did now, were enough to keep you occupied and you were pretty sure you’d made yourself a few friends, including one woman who worked in the same office as you, Ahsoka.
You’d almost given up the hope that you’d see him again and that fate hadn’t somehow meant to entwine your destinies over breakfast one morning. You were scrolling through your phone, checking the news when you heard the familiar bell above the door twinkle. Not bothering to look up, you shoved a big bite into your mouth; it wasn’t until the seat next to you became occupied that you looked over.
And there he was. Just as handsome and happy as the first time you’d met him.
“Boba,” you swallowed as he nodded before flagging down Dex and ordering his usual breakfast, “I...umm, you…you’re here.”
“Yes,” he was amused, his dark curls seeming to bounce in excitement. He looked over for a moment before his smile faltered slightly, “I just realized I didn’t even get your name.”
Your whole face warmed up as you softly offered him your name and listened to his lilting tongue repeat it. His warmth seemed to radiate onto you as you realized just how close he was to you, your knees almost touching, “I’ve been coming almost every morning before work. The spiced coffee is good, but the food is even better.”
“I knew you’d like it here,” he beamed as Dex brought over his plate. Boba paused for a moment before drumming his fingers along the top of the counter, “I came back, you know, most evenings when I thought you’d be off. I wanted to see you again.”
“Oh. Oh,” a smile twitched on the corners of your mouth as you stared down at your plate, “well, most evenings have been occupied by getting to know the city with some new friends and setting up my apartment. But I did start coming most mornings before work for coffee and breakfast and…hoping you’d be here. I didn’t realize you were that Boba until I got to work and realized who your father was. He’s been around a few times, he’s very kind.”
“He thinks you’re kind too,” Boba admitted with a sly little grin and every hair on your body seemed to stand up as you realized that he had talked about you. You had been a topic of conversation between them, even if it was only for a few moments, “I’ve tried to come around but business has been busy. But we’re here…now.”
“Yes,” you agreed as he gently nudged his knee against yours. Your phone beeped softly, letting you know you’d received a text; sighing lightly you picked it up and read the texts from Anakin which caused you to sigh even more, “I need to get into work a little early. We have a meeting today and I need to get a few things done before.”
“What a funny coincidence,” you raised an eyebrow in confusion as he feigned looking at his watch, “I happen to have a meeting at the same time and place. Interesting how that works out…I suppose it wouldn’t make sense to go separately so we might as well walk together.”
“Hmm,” you shook your head in amusement as you realized he’d known about that meeting this whole time, “interesting how that worked out indeed. Almost like someone had some inside knowledge.”
“Can’t imagine who,” he shrugged as you both grabbed the last few bites before tossing down some bills for our meals. You slid off the stool and grabbed your bag as he followed suit. Boba leaned in closely, letting you get a whiff of his cologne, which almost took you out then and there. You tried not to focus on anything but what he was saying, which was incredibly hard, “are you free tonight? After work…for dinner?”
“If I didn’t know any better, Boba Fett, I’d think you were asking me on a date,” you couldn’t help but tease as you found that it was easy to fall into a comfortable rhythm with him. He gave a huff of laughter as he exhaled through his nose and nodded as he held the door open for you.
“That’s probably because I am, little one,” he grinned as butterflies fluttered wildly in your tummy, “you know, if you want to that is.”
“Yes, I-I do,” you looped your arm through the one he offered you as you set off towards the office, “hey Boba?”
“Hmm?”
“Do you believe in fate?” you asked softly, hoping your question wouldn’t make you appear too silly.
“I’m just a simple man, trying to make his way through the world,” he admitted, “I don’t know if I believe in anything that I can’t control, but I like to think whatever is meant to happen will happen. If that makes sense.”
“Yes,” you agreed, knowing exactly what he meant as he grinned back at you, “me too, Boba. me too.”
