Revealing the past 02
Just only we stayed at the room. Me and that⌠elf. How could Ranâdrak fell in love with an elf? But the biggest problem is, that he never shared it to me. Iâm his best friend, damn it! Iâve never been more angry like now.
No, no, no, I canât believe it! Iâd better sit and calm down. I analyzed the druid for seconds. She was a week one, with small and fragile body. She wasnât Ranâs type at all. At least, I thought so. With soft and careful motions, she was looking out from the door and was staring at the eagle, until it vanished, than she sat down, not next to me, but I still felt her too close. It was better when she had been standing at the door. The best option would be that she would just get lost, not just form the room, but from Ranâs life. She made some annoying noise by her small legs, because of the adrenalin, I guess. I was close to hit her on the face. Instead, I got a better idea. From one of the wooden shelves I took a glass down and poured water into it. Before I gave it to her, I had put some flavor to her drink. I reached a small flask under my cape which held as clear liquid as the water. One drop of this poison could kill a whole army. That elf, got three, just for the sure effect. I carefully replaced the bottle to my belt and stood next to the elf.
âMy dear!â I tried to speak as kind as I could. I was able to make a nice smile too. ââYou must be exhausted. The road is long form Stranglethorn.â I sat down, next to her and offered the drink.ââ There arenât much drink in this shop to calm your thirst, but the water can do the trick. ââThis time I touched her left shoulder. She reached the glass and placed it to her lap.
âI couldnât sit here idly. I have to go after Ran.â Rheisa raised up her head than she stood up.â I have to be beside him.â She was ready to leave the place. The druid gave me back the glass and almost gone from the room, but she stopped.
âSir! Do you know where Ranâdrak went?â
So polite how she speaks to me, like I was an old troll. How old does she think I am?
âI believe he went to Zulâkunda. But you donât need to worry about him, darling. Take a seat! âWell, I also speak politely, but that is just my style. Â
âI cannot rest when my love is about to save his friend from a dangerous place. Sir! You must understand! Please, take me to Zulâkunda!
âNo.â I answered calmly and raised up the glass to sip one, just for the dramatic impact. I almost forget about the poison. When I realized that I almost killed myself I poured out the drink to the floor. The liquid left a bubbling black mark and then it vanished. The elf looked at the etched point with a horrified face, then her eyes found me, but this time, they were full with fury. I smiled on her awkwardly and before she could say anything, I ran out from the room to my golden cloud serpent and jumped to itâs back. I pet the saddle behind me, singing to the elf. Rheisa sat up, without any hesitating and when the serpent flown up, she clung to my waist. I couldnât stand, if someone touches me, and it is more horrible if the one is a woman. It is going to be a long trip. I could start some small talks, but the thoughts at my mind were more interesting. Instead of me, the elf started a conversation.
âWhat is your name, sir?â
âI have many names, but Iâm not a sir.â I tried to be as rude as it was possible to make the elf stop her speech. I failed.
âSo, how can I call you?â
âThe best would be that you donât even talk to me, but if you are so attached to it⌠The Ranaman is perfect enough.
âRanaman? So you are the brother of Taz?â
I clenched my teeth and tried not to shout or make any angry gesture.
âYou really look older than 34.â
âIâm not 34! Who told this nonsense to you?â
âWell, Taz didâŚâ
âCome on! That idiot doesnât even know how old we are!?â I took a big breath and slapped my forehead. ââIâm 31 damn it! No more, no less!â
That was the last sentence between us, until we arrived to Stranglethorn, nearby Zulâkunda. We landed far from the village. As we get of the Serpent, I asked the elf to stay and wait for me.
I used one of my mage abilities and made myself invisible to sneak into Zulâkunda. At the center I found a huge sacrificial altar made by stone. Taz was next to it, tied to a pole. He looked unconscious, like they knocked him down. My eyes also found Ranâdrak, who had been sitting at a treeâs branch, waiting for the perfect moment to save Taz. I recognized him of his green and blue feathers and not every eagle has tusk. I hurried next to Taz and waited.
From one of the leather tents, an old troll stepped out and approached the altar. One of his tusk was replaced by a golden ring, his head was bald and his skin was full with huge wrinkles. As he stopped at the stone, he raised up his hands and took a big breath before he started his speech.
âBrothahs! Sistahs! Da night has come, when we can revenge our fallen spirits. Dat hunteâ⌠â He pointed to Taz and when he replaced his hand next to himself, he confined it to a fist. â⌠he hunted down our goddessâs children.â From shouting he switched to insane whispering. âBut now, heâll pay foâ his crime.â
Two muscular troll grabbed Taz by his arms and placed him to the altar. The hunter didnât tried to resist, seemed to be, he had no power. What could they done to him?
âHear ya salves prey, Shirvallah!â Â As that sentence left the witch doctor's mouth, I knew who I was facing.
âZanky?â I whispered to myself with widely opened eyes. It was more than hard to say the oneâs name, who ruined my life. But wait! When I last time when I seen Taz, he told me that Zanky was dead. If that troll is really Zanky, that means that Taz lied to me. But why? Why would he? Now I had one more reason to save his life and ask the truth.
I stepped up to the altar, made a barrier around me and Taz and removed the invisibility from myself. As I became visible, the witch doctor looked into my eyes with such a soul killer sight. Same as I remembered from my childhood. I filled with hatred and my whole body was trembled because of the fury.
âYou there!â I pointed to the old troll. âYour name is Zanky, isnât it?â
The witch doctorâs smile became wider than he stepped as close to me as my barrier let him.
âAnd ya be Ranaman.â He sniffed a huge than shuddered. âI still remember ya taste⌠ya was me favorite ta play witâ. âZanky laughed up as insane as he could.
âRelease my brother and I might let you live.â
Zanky didnât care about my words. He analyzed me from the bottom to the top. His eyes stuck to one point of my chest and he stared at it, instead of looking into my eyes.
âYa could be powehful witch doctah, Ranaman. Biggeâ dan me⌠and ya chose datâŚâ He pointed to my lorewalker badge.
âThatâs right. I choose the lorewalkers, because Iâm not a crazy, insane idiot like you. You, you ruined my life!â
âYesss!â His voice was full with pride. âAnd I enjoyed brakinâ ya young soul.â His tone softened to imitate my words that I used to yell at him.
âPlease no! No! Leave me alone!â He clasped his hands and lifted to his chest. The cold shook him. Â ââThat was heaven.â
It was the perfect time to revenge my past. My life was a disaster after that what he had done to me. I lost my family and my best friend, because of him. I cannot trust people, because of him. I cannot have a normal life, because of him. Every single word from Zanky made me angrier and angrier. I felt a little tear drop, slipping down at my nose. I waited no more. I made a huge ice spike with a spell. It hovered above my head.
âGo to hell!â The spike was shoot to his chest. Zanky fallen to his knees and touched the ice for some seconds before he closed his eyes. I stared at him for a short time than I grabbed Taz and teleported us out from Zulâkunda. When I made sure that none of the guards followed us I made a small fireball and kept it at my hand. It was a dark night and that light allowed me to look into my brotherâs eyes.
âThanks foâ savinâ me, bro.â He tried to hug me, but I stepped once back and lifted up my palm to him. When he stopped trying to hug me, I stood closer to him again.Â
âTaz! You told me that Zanky had died. Am I right?
âKindaâŚâ He scratched his little beard under his red bandana. âHow can someone be âkindaâ dead?â I raised my voice and was close to slap him.
âOk, I lied...â
âWhy? Why have you lie to me, to your brother?â
Taz shoot his eyes down and started scratching the ground.
âTaz! Look at me! Look into my eyes!â He raise his head up slowly and I saw the regret at his face. âWhy?â
ââI jusâ wanted to âave a reason to make ya come back ta me.â His eyes filled with tears. ââIâve nevah had betteâ friend dan ya. I missed ya, I wanted ya to come back.â
âI canât believe it! Taz, you really missed me, and you made a lie to get me back. Here comes the same question: WHY?â ââI had no idea what to tell ya. Maybe ya donâ see, bu ya changed a lot. Aftah dat many years, I wasnât even able to recognize ya.â
âThen you made a lie.â I tried to be calm, but inside I was yelling. âWe could have been best friends, if you hadnât lied.â I reached Tazâs head softly and looked into his eyes again. âTaz, you never think. Now I see. Youâre not a bad guy, just an idiot⌠like I thought.â
âDas dat mean dat ya forgive me? We can be friends again?â âNo. I can never forgive you.â I turned and walked away before Taz could start his baby crying. As far as I know him, heâs going to weep his eyes out.
I was far and I hoped that he wonât follow me. I couldnât handle him. Deeply I love him so much, but my stubbornness never let to forgive. When I thought that I got rid of Taz, his yelling broke the silence.
âDonâ tinkâ dat only jusâ ya suffered! Ya have no Idea what I have come through, but I always hoped that once I could see my little bro again.â
I hate when he calls me little bro, but, unfortunately, he is right. Taz is elder, with five seconds. As I feared, he ran after me and kept speaking with red cheeks and eyes.
âI always believed that one they, we will play at the beach again, catching fishes, climb up to a tree to hide, because we ate all the honey. I hoped that ya will hug me again and tell me that you love meâŚâ His whole body was trembling as he caught his breath. Taz nervously started searching at his bag, than he raised his fist. He was holding something at it. Suddenly he opened it and at his palm was a little green lizard.
âLook! I kept Tiki for ya.â Sniffedâ Donâ be dat callous!â He was almost begging on his knees. I got angry on him again. The hatred took control of me. I raised my voice and knocked Tiki out from his hand.
âNot you, Taz, not even your fucking lizard cares me!â As the reptile landed on the ground, I donât know why, but I stepped on it. Taz suddenly collapsed and hitched Tiki to his chest.
âIâm not willing to listen to your yammering and your martyr reasoning. Iâve had enough of you! YOU have no idea what have I went through.â I ripped of his red bandana and throw it to the ground. He tries to hide his face after he failed the judgment, after his dream to be a shadow hunter had broken.
âYou, such an idiot moron, will never know how much I have suffered, because TazâŚâ I calmed down and continued it with a low voice, while I was holding his head to made him look at me, instead of Tiki. ââŚyou will never be mature enough to understand.â
Then I left him, sitting at the muddy ground, holding his only memory of me. I walked to the beach, where we used to play and I fallen to my knees. I was trembling and started to cry. I saw how the deep sea absorb my tears.I regret what Iâve done.
Change
Itâs been a while since Ranaman left me here. He can come back any minute now. I canât see a damn thing, the night is so dark. To see more clear I transformed into panther. I can see better with cat eyes. I feel more safe and braver.    I led down to the ground and kept waiting the mage. I had no idea, how long was I laying when I had heard a strange noise from behind me. It sounded like footsteps. When I raised up my head, a tall troll was grinning at me. He had a dark blue hair and only wore harness. He reached to my back and touched it. For that I jumped up and grinned on him. He hadnât recognized that Iâm not a real panther. The troll had been muttering something nonstop. He held no weapon, but I still felt myself in danger. He didnât stop talking and second by second he was getting closer to me. I started walking backwards, but he kept on approaching me, even faster. I turned and ran away, but something stopped me. I felt a heavy rope net, falling to my body and heard steppes again. The troll knelt down to me than he took his head close to mine. Hardly, but I managed to cut the net, than I was on my way to freedom, again. I tried not to look back, I was afraid, I trembled. I wasnât sure about that heâll be that âniceâ again, if he catches me once more. However I didnât hear anything, I know that he was after me. I didnât get use to running. I stopped. I was standing at my shocking legs and was breathing hard, when I saw another figure close to me, but he held a bow at his hands. He pulled the string and was ready to shot. I had no choice. I attacked the one. I felt a heavy mail armoire on him, so I ripped of his bodyâs defense. I made a deep wound at his chest than I jumped down from him. The trollâs body collapsed on the muddy ground. He was still alive, I saw how he was catching his breath. Firstly I didnât know who I was facing, who was kneeling before me, but he seemed more than familiar. Then, I realized.Â
ââTaz!ââ I was agonized. I tried to hurry to him and heal his wound when the dark haired troll found me again. The smile had gone from his face and by his fist, he attacked me. With a quick dash I ran to him and gave him no time I sprang to him. As I jumped on him, I leveled his body to the ground and without any hesitating I bit out his throat. He was jolting for some seconds, than⌠the struggling, the resisting, the moving break off. He was laying on the ground lifeless and I was just staring at him. I watched how his red blood came out from his mouth and from his throat. His eyes were looking to the distance, though I knew they did not see anything anymore. A life was gone⌠because of me. I was panicked. Not because I murdered, but because I enjoyed it. Was this missing from my life? The fight? The murdering? I was confused and was lost my mind. I collapsed on the ground, right next to Taz. However I was unconscious, I was still able to comprehend the things happened with me. Shades were standing around me. I didnât see them face, I wasnât even sure that they had face. One of them stepped to me and knelt down.
ââYou are pretty brave, little elf.â His voice was deep and full with sarcasm. ââYou are far away from your home. ââHe laughed and stood up. ââI know what you want, elf. I know what you want to be. So why have you killed that troll.â He pointed to the dark haired one. His dead body vanished from the ground and emptiness stayed where he was.Â
ââYou not respect trolls.â I wanted to shout that it is not true, that I do respect them. I felt that every bit of mine was aching of trying to move again, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldnât. The shade asked again, but this time his voice was full with fury and hatred.Â
ââDonât you respect the trolls? Answer, noh!â I didnât speak zandali well, but I knew that noh means elf. I had enough. I gathered all my strength left and shouted up.Â
ââIâM NOT A NOH!â As the sentence left my moth, I hit the ground again.Â
ââSo be it.â The voice was calm this time. ââDo not disappoint your gods, troll.â All the shades, all the figures left, leaving silence. I only felt pity for myself and sorry for Taz. I was able to keep my eyes openen, but I didnât have any strength to keep myself shapeshifted, so I transformed back. I heard low flutter of wings than a faint whang next to me.
 ââRheisa?âÂ
I recognized Ranâs voice immediately. I took a big breath and was trying to speak, trying to say that, yes, Iâm your love, but I was barely able to keep my eyes open.  I felt how he grabbed my body. I had no Idea how far he took me, but at that moment, I didnât care. He gently placed me to a rug than covered my whole body with a soft blanket.      My last memory from the night was how Ranâdrak placed Taz nearby me and a glowing green light, as Ran healed his wounds.
Broken Childhood
I want to apologize further because of the grammar. You might know, but Iâm not a native speaker⌠:D So, if you find a mistake, tell me, please.Â
I hope youâll like it.Â
Ranaman, a troll from the Drakspear tribe just started his witch doctor training. He was young, just only nine years old, but his father had made him to start the training, even if he wasnât old enough. Ranaman loves to learn new things, so he hadnât resisted.
He entered to the tent, where the tribeâs witch doctor usually is. His eyes were widely open as he looked around the place. There were bones, skulls, herbs and mixtures everywhere. He also smelled something tang, like rotten flesh. Ranaman regret going there, his mind told him to leave, but his legs took him farther.
The witch doctor was standing at a huge cauldron, stirring a steaming liquid with even more horrible smell that Ranaman never smelled before. The doctor wear only a harness and a light kilt, his head was half bald and one of his tusk was broken down.
Ranaman swallowed huge, and stepped next to his future trainer, but before he could say anything, the witch doctor stopped the stirring and looked to the young troll. His smile got wider and more insane. That made Ranaman to step back once.
âRanaman!â Â The witch doctor put down the wooden stick that he had been holding at knelt down to the young troll. âYa be arrivinâ jusâ in time.â Â He held a hand for Ranaman, who firstly hesitated, but after some seconds, he grabbed the doctorâs hand. The witch doctor, Zanky pulled Ranaman closer to himself and started studying the young trollâs body. âYa be more young, dat I expected.â
âIs dat bad?â Ranaman shocked in fear, he kept his eyes close and breathed heavily.
âNah!â Â Zanky picked up Ranamanâs easy body and put down to a huge wooden table, next to his chipped herb pieces and small bones. He grabbed a knife and raised up, above his head. As Ranaman looked at it, his breathing stopped for a second. Zanky just played with Ranaman, he didnât want to hurt him at all, no. He had bigger plans for him.
âYa age be no problem, mon. The younger da better!â  Laughed up and thrown down the knife to the ground. âI see ya be afraidâŚâ Ranaman nodded and tried to cover his chest by his arms. âDonâ worry! Mâ nut gonna hurt ya, no.â  As he throw the knife down, he did the same with his soft, cloth kilt. âWe jusâ gunna play.â  He laughed. Ranamanâs whole body was trembling. He jumped down from the table and tried to escape from the tent, slowly.
âI be tinkinâ ta come back anotherâ time, Zanky. Mâ nut feelinâ well.â He hitched to his head and was stepping backwards to the tentâs entrance. Ranaman almost escaped from the nightmare, when Zanky ran to him and grabbed him by his arm. His gestures wasnât angry, they were more insane like.
He laid back Ranaman to the table and tied his hands to a pole.
âWhat are ya gunna do witâ me?â Ranamanâs eyes filled with tears, his heart was beating fast and he tried to escape from the ropeâs strong clench. Zanky answered nothing just grabbed Ranamanâs leather kilt by the belt and pulled down while he kept laughing. He was about to make a horrible thing that could ruin the little trollâs soul forever, but Zanky didnât care. He had no regrets, so he did it.
The World broke for Ranaman in one second. He couldnât move, couldnât speak, couldnât breath. He was shocked, the pain was unbearable, yet, he was able to stood it. He lost his mind and fallen to a coma.
He didnât know how long had he been unconscious when he woke up. His whole body was aching. As he opened his eyes, he saw that his hand wasnât tied anymore. Ranaman looked around at the tent. Zanky was nowhere to be seen. He had the chance to move. Now, or never.
With a quick dash he ran out from the tent to the villageâs center. He hadnât watched where he was running and he ran up to someone. A young troll from his age. His long orange hair covered his face, but Ranaman recognized his twin brother immediately.
âTaz! Do ya have ya bow witâ yaself?â He grabbed Tazdin by his shoulders. Ranaman confined them hard and so Taz hissed up.
âI do, jusâ like always.â From young age, even more young, Taz had been planning to be a shadow hunter when he grow up. He practiced hours with bow and tried to have great relationships with the loas. He was great at shooting, but he never got any sing from the spirits.
âSometinâ wrong?â Looked Taz into his brotherâs eyes which was full with pain and tiers.
âWe need to get ta papa!â He trembled and almost couldnât walk. Taz took Ranamanâs right arm to his shoulder and helped him walk back home. As they arrived, Ranaman hugged the young hunter and stepped away from him.
âThank you!â Ranaman walked to his father slowly while Taz went back to the jungle. His brother was in safe, he didnât need to worry.
When Ranaman stepped to the wooden floor, a little green lizard clambered upon his legs to his shoulder. The small reptile calmed him down a little bit, but he was still trembling.
âWhere be my papa, Tiki?â Ranaman scratched the lizardâs throat, while he kept moving to his father. As he found the old troll, he took Tiki down who ran away immediately. The reptile was afraid from the huge troll, so did Ranaman.
âPapa⌠â started and approached the other troll.
âWhat dat be, son? Is anything ok?â He recognized the fear at Ranamanâs voice. The muscular troll turned to his son and looked into his eyes. Ranaman said nothing, just ran to his father and hugged him while he was crying. Â âRanaman? What is it? Did anyone hurt ya?â The young one was still speechless, he just only nodded.
âWho was it?â Â The elder troll pulled his son away from himself, but he was still holding him by his arms. Ranaman didnât answer for the question, but made a request.
âLet me stop da traininâ! I donâ wanna be a witch doctor. I donâ wanna se Zanky again!â
âBut, son. Ya must be a witch doctor!â Â
Ranaman stopped the crying. He mopped down the tiers by his robe and escaped from his fatherâs arms. The fear gone and hatred started bubbling up at him.
âI⌠musâ be?â He blinked. He couldnât believe his ears. ââBuâ I donâ wanna be. I wanna be⌠sometinâ else.â
ââNO!â The young troll blinked in fear as the elder one raised his voice. He had counted on it, he knew his father. âRanaman, ya donâ understand. Ya brother is gunna be a powerful shadow hunteâ, bu he needs âelp. Help to communicate with da loas.â
ââ If so, why donâ ya send âim to Zanky?â
The elder troll took a big breath and knelt down to Ranaman.
âI wonât send âim to Zanky, because of what he had done to ya. I donâ wanna him to be hurt.â The elder troll admitted the truth. At the bottom of his heart, Ranaman knew that Taz was his favorite, but it was such a horror hearing it. Even worse. His father could kill him just to give Taz what he wants. The time slowed down for him, insane thoughts were at his mind and memories. Memories that proved that his father never cared about him.
âYa knew dat Zankyâs gunna hurt me, and ya sent me ta him?â The tiers appeared again at Ranamanâs eyes. He didnât wait for answer, he just ran out from the small wooden house, to the jungle, leaving his father behind. Tiki followed him, until he ran away, next to Taz.
âHey, bro! Where are ya runninâ?â For his brotherâs voice Ranaman stopped, but he couldnât look at him. He was mad at Taz and mad at his father. He confined his hands to fist and started breathing angrily, like a beast.
âDonâ ever call me bro! I be not ya brother! I be nooseâs son. I be no Darkspear.âÂ
Taz saw how Ranaman faded at the jungle as he ran deeper and deeper. The small reptile stood to his bear feet and watched the distance where Ranaman had gone. Tazdin sat down, putting his bow next to himself and buried his face to his hands. He never seen Ranaman like this before. Not with him.
His brother, his best and only friend, the one who he could trust just left. And might never come back.
