Outside, the silence of the cold air dissipated quickly. It was soon filled with chaos and Sirens.
Peter had heard it come through a police radar, across town an armored truck was hijacked. The men who stole it were armed and considered extremely dangerous.
Peter shook his head as he slipped on his mask.
“Armed and dumb most likely” He muttered, annoyed with the night already. Though he couldn’t figure out why. Or more he didn’t want to admit why.
He hated how he felt giving you the cold shoulder. His mind kept playing the pout on your face when you turned to see he was no longer there.
“Focus Parker!” He reminded himself, or was he hearing your voice now? Like you’ve said to him every time you were studying together and he’d try working out a crime from the previous night in his head, instead of the assignment.
“If I was an armored truck, where would I be?” He pondered swinging from building to building, trying to climb higher for a better view.
Down below, police cars were setting up a blockade, complete with a spike strip, to try to stop the bandits from escaping their jurisdiction and causing any damage.
“Where are they?” Asked a police sergeant into his car radio.
“They’re heading your way on 5th Ave. And it looks like they’re not alone!” The chopper police responded.
“What do you mean not alone? Did they meet up with their gang or something?” He questioned, thinking there were only two of them in one armored truck, was one thing taking on a gang to boot was something he wasn’t sure they were prepared for.
“Give me that.” He heard a voice say. “ It’s that no-good Spider-Man!” The voice cried out with hatred.
“Who are you? And where did my deputy go?” The sergeant grilled
“I’m J. Jonah Jameson, I have full press access thanks to your benefactor.” He argued, “Now I don’t want any of you boys in blue to forget the Spider Freak is a wanted criminal and murder!”
“Don’t you worry. We haven’t forgotten what he did to one of our own.” The Sergeant remarked, looking darkly at the tops of the nearby buildings.
High above Peter could make out the incoming armored vehicle.
Following closely above it was a police helicopter. Looking over his shoulder, he noticed the barricade being set up, but the armoured truck was going too fast.
“They need more time. I’ve got to get them to chase me or find some way to slow them down.” Peter muttered.
He really didn’t want to be mixed up dealing with the cops tonight but if he didn’t step in someone was going to get hurt.

When Fate Intervenes- tasm!Peter Parker x Reader Part 1
It was a wonder you and Peter Parker never met each other until you were both forced to attend a mandatory pre-midterm conference with Mr.Hertz, your physics professor for the fall semester, of which you were currently running late for. Then again maybe it was all part of fate's funny game it wanted to play on the two of you.
You had completely forgotten what day it was earlier this evening and went straight home from work instead of heading in the opposite direction to your college.
You were recently new to New York, settling into a small and cheap apartment on the outskirts of Queens. It was all you could afford after you packed up and moved across states to attend college, preferring to be as far away from your family as you could get.
You used what was left over from your college tuition to make the down payment for rent. After that you found a job at a small corner store. Just around the corner actually and you happened to find out they needed help by chance when you went there for basic food supplies. It wasn't much but they were willing to work around your college schedule and let you do your homework whenever it got slow.
You had just finished your shift at work and were completely wiped from working all day and thinking about the mountain of assignments and reading you still had to do.
You envied the rich college kids if only for the facts that they didn't have to worry about that. Didn't have to worry about failing or surviving in the real world. While you never had a moment's rest. Never stopping and allowing yourself just to breathe and live.
You didn't come from a happy home. No, you came from a broken home. One that taught you terrible habits, like avoiding your problems. Or people in general so that you don't get attached, get let down and have more problems.
Anxiety was a constant in your life so much that you always wore out. Which was why you decided a nice nap after work sounded better than starting your schoolwork.
You woke up to your phone going off about an hour later.
You looked blinked that sleep away and picked up your phone to see your college's name rolling across the screen.
Puzzled and tired you answered it. The sleep is evident in your voice.
"So it's not just my class lectures you tend to be late for." The voice on the other end spoke after you said your typical greeting. The exasperation evident in their voice.
It was clearly your physics teacher, you'd remember that voice from everywhere. Having been scolded by him multiple times this semester for arriving late for his early morning class but it was challenging when you usually had to work the evening shift at work then stay up late to finish up your course work before the next day.
It was not an ideal balance but it was one you had to manage for the time being. Your job wouldn't give you the morning shift and the college only offers this class during one time this semester and you would rather get it out of the way fast then wait to do it plus it was a prerequisite for a handful of your other classes.
"I am so sorry I thought it was Tuesday for some reason. I'll be there in about 30 minutes." You apologized for the tenth time for letting the meeting slip your mind and lied through your teeth about when you'd be there.
Which is why you were running across campus to one of the buildings in the back to meet your fate.
Meanwhile in another part of campus Peter hand touched down from swing to one of his emergency backpacks that he left for when he was running late for something on school grounds, like right now.
He knew what time he had to be at the meeting for Me. Hertz but you try to tell that to highspeed bank robbers going in the opposite direction. They'd laugh at him and then blow smoke from their getaway car in his face.
Peter shook his head at the mere thought of it before jumping on his skateboard and jetting over to the backside of campus.
He needed to get this over with face and get back to patrolling. He knew it was not about his grades, he's one of the smartest students in class. Probably is the smartest but he'd never give himself that much credit with his classroom attendance.
That's probably what this is all about. He's attendance or lack thereof, especially of late. Peter really only took some easy college courses to get Aunt May to stop worrying about him following Spider-Man around all day long.
His heart and head weren't in any of it. He'd rather be stopping bad guys so no one got hurt like Gwen did or Harry.
If only Peter could save the people he cared about most. It was a guilt he'd carry like a scarlet letter forever.
With all of Peter's thoughts consuming him it didn't take him long to reach Mr. Hertz's office.
He kicked up his board and reached for the door handle, mentally preparing himself for the lecture he was about to receive. But who can prepare for what fate has in store for them?
The night air was chillier than normal and you instantly regretted not grabbing a heavier jacket when you left your apartment but you were so excited from turning in your paper that you didn't initially feel the cold winds sweeping past you.
You thought maybe it would be best to grab a coffee at a little cafe and maybe just call it quits early, you could always go out tomorrow night when you have the forethought to look up the weather or at the very least dress warmer for the night.
As the door jingles above your head the person in the middle of the line turns and you realize it's Peter.
"Parker?" You questioned him in disbelief.
What were the odds he would be at the coffee shop you always go to in between studying. It wasn't too far from your apartment but far enough that you got a decent study break in on the walk there and back.
"Hey y/n" Peter waved slightly before readjusting his glasses and the warmth in you started to come back.
Yep that's Peter, his skateboard was tucked in his backpack and slug over his one shoulder easily.
Today's Peter seemed to be wearing a comfy looking hoodie layered over what looked like a long sleeve shirt, to keep himself warm while he skated around who knows where.
Peter seemed almost different from earlier though. Almost like he was the Peter from when you first encountered him, awkward and shy. Not the smart and nerdy guy you started to know. He acted like you were strangers again, not budding friends.
Sure he greeted you but that was all he did as he turned back around in the line as it started to move again.
At that thought the warmth that was inside you died down quickly.
You must have crossed a line earlier like you worried about. You needed to apologize for that.
That distance between him and you in the line wasn't that great so you weighed your options and decided to just wait until you both were waiting for your drinks to talk to him. It would give you the chance to think of how you were going to apologize to him.
It wasn’t long until it was your turn to order, you turned to the barista ready to rattle off you order when you realized you knew the person
“Joey?” You questioned not quite sure if you knew his name correctly or not.
“Close it’s Johnny” He corrected you giving you a small smile.
You had seen him around campus and maybe in one of your classes if you remembered correctly and while he seemed like a nice guy there was something about him that just didn’t stick with you. You just couldn’t put your finger on it but it seemed like from what you had seen he tried too hard to be liked.
“Right. Sorry about that. Johny. Umm..how have you been?” You questioned trying to break the awkward tension that seemed to have appeared between the two of you.
“Not too bad. How about yourself?” He asked, pretending to clean the counter.
“I’ve been doing good.” You replied, glancing over to see if Peter’s name had been called but thankfully it hadn’t.
“I..uh…heard you’ve been working closely with that Parker kid.” Johny stated, causing you to snap your attention back to him.
“Oh? What about it?” You asked defensively.
You knew that people talked harshly about Peter before you worked with him. The name Park traveled throughout the school like some kind of a new slang term to put someone down.
Things like “You're such a Parker.” or “Don’t be a Parker”. While you had no idea what it meant at the time you paid it no mind.
However, once you actually met the boy and got to know him the terms took a new meaning to you and you found yourself sticking up for Peter behind his back.
“Nothing. Just curious how you’re handling it. You know what they say about him at school.” He tried to remind you. “It must be difficult to be near that kind of kid for even a short amount of time.”
You thought about how when you first started working with Peter you didn’t really want to spend that much time with him either but not because of what they said at school but because you just didn’t want to deal with someone else. But now? Now that you got to get closer to Peter, there’s something about him that draws you in and makes you want to spend your free time with him. It didn’t matter what you did, you just wanted his presence.
So the thought of how others still thought of him and talked about him without knowing him got your blood boiling and you felt its heat rising to your head.
“Well not everything you hear is fact. Now if you’d please I’d like to order.” You snapped at him.
“Oh…yeah. Sure. Didn’t mean to upset you. What can I get you?” He asked, the shock from your response clearly written on his face.
You ordered and turned to find Peter was gone. The pout on your face was evident as you moved out of the way and waited for your own drink alone.
You had a lot playing through your mind as you stood there that you didn’t realize what was happening outside the coffee shop.
When Fate Intervenes- tasm!Peter Parker x Reader Part 6
[Part 1] [Part 2] [Part 3] [Part 4] [Part 5]
Peter couldn't believe it. He had just saved y/n's life but it was like he was approaching a scared and wounded animal instead of a grateful citizen. It wasn't like the guy didn't deserve the beating he got. At that thought Peter turned back to the guy. Ok maybe he did go a bit overboard there.
You had no clue where in Queens you were or how to get home from where you are.
So the superhero's offer seemed like the best choice but there was no way you were just gonna show him to your front door. No you were going to keep yourself safe and make sure only you knew where you lived.
You still didn't trust him after what you just witnessed.
"Look, it's not exactly a safe neighborhood we're in." He finally spoke up.
"And who's fault is that?" You snapped back, "isn't it a hero's job to clean up the crime in areas like this?"
You were right. Peter felt guilty for the state that the city got into while he was away but he was working hard on cleaning it up and making sure it stayed that way.
"It is." He admitted sounding dejected.
"So what happened?" You questioned, your curious nature getting the best of you.
"Let me take you home and I'll tell you some of it" He tried to negotiate.
"Look, I'll let you drop me back off at the shop I came from." You huffed, finally caving. Some part of you felt bad for this man before you. There was something heavy in his voice.
"Ok. Hold on tight." He warned as he approached once more and wrapped his arm around your waist. You instinctively wrapped your arms around his neck.
When Peter felt you were holding on tight enough he shot a web and started swinging, he was expecting a scream or a gasp. Anything but what he got from you. You were laughing.
"This is awesome!" You exclaimed. Looking out at the city flying past you.
At the speed you were going you dated not to look forward for fear or having something fly into your eyes.
It wasn't long before you were on the rooftop next to the store. You could see the police were still there so there was no way a vigilante was going to drop you off at the door.
You scanned the area for John, hoping he was alright.
"He's probably been seen by now and is at home." The man next to you said, as if reading your mind.
"Then I believe you owe me a story." You mused, interested once more in your companion.
There was a moment of thick silence between the two of you. Neither one wanted to speak but both knew the next words spoken would be heavy.
"I lost someone close to me because I held back. So when I decided to put the mask back on I vowed not to hold back ever again." He finally admitted to you.
"That's a heavy vow to take." You finally spoke after some thought, "but what if you don't hold back on the wrong person? What if you could save someone that really just needs a hero?" You posed to him as you started walking towards the fire escape.
"I…"He started to stammer.
"Just some food for thought. Night Spider-Man." You called out as you headed down the steps to your floor.
Peter was floored. He walked to the edge of the building to try and see where you went but you were already gone.
With your word weighing on Peter's mind he headed to the other side of the building to grab one of his go-bags. He quickly changed and walked around to the front of the same building and walked inside. Peter was exhausted both mentally and emotionally.
What's worse was he still had to stay up and write a paper and y/n.
"It's like she's everywhere now " Peter whispered to himself.
Not that he really minded, except for the kidnapping part, but he liked the provoking thoughts you had. He wished he could see more of that side of y/n during your weekly after class meetups. Though that might require Peter to be less of the "Peter" persona he has everyone thinking he is and more of the real him, the confident him with spider powers.
Peter could risk it though. Y/n was clever, if he gave too much away she could figure out he's Spider-Man. Then he didn't have a clue what she would do with the information.
He still wasn't sure if she was for him as a hero or against him.
The whole thing made Peter's head spin. But he had to get it all sorted tonight before he saw y/n again.
He couldn't let anything slip and he needed to figure out what to say to you and how to react to y/n if she told him anything.
Would she even tell him anything? Peter wondered as he took off his suit.
They've only talked a few times now but Peter started to feel some sort of way with y/n. Maybe it was the fact that they were both smart or maybe it was something else.
Peter wandered around his apartment trying to come up with a solution to his problems.
He was tired but his night wasn't over yet.
You had officially given Spider-Man the slip. You had half expected him to follow you to your apartment window and come knocking or crawling through it at any moment but it never happened.
You sighed in relief.
You had no idea what you would do if he did do any of that but you were pretty sure your Physics book you were holding at the ready to strike wasn't going to take him out.
"Oh crap." You cried out as you looked at the book you just sat down, remembering you had a paper to write on Peter Parker due tomorrow morning.
You rushed to your desk trying to try and start it but you just couldn't focus.
It was no use, your mind kept landing back to tonight's events and it definitely didn't help when you did start to focus that you were hyper focused; but not on your paper. No on your environment. So much that you could hear the slightest sound. Like your neighbor pacing above you.
From the sounds of it they either had a crazy Roomba or had some heavy thoughts of their own. Either way you figured your long night still wasn't over but it helped to know someone else was suffering with you.
You just couldn't find it in yourself to go after last night.
You didn't want the stares that would come with your newly forming bruises or have to explain them.
You didn't want to feel like being a zoo exhibit even if that was an exaggeration.
So you emailed your professor late last night, telling him you came down with something suddenly but that you would submit your paper to him by the end of the day tomorrow.
Which means you had all day long to work on it since your work called and cancelled your shift due to last night's incident.
You sat at your desk after slowly rolling yourself out of bed. Glaring at your empty document program. You still could complete your paper last night.
You could swear it was mocking you at this point but every time you tried to write something about Peter it just didn't seem right. It was either too much, or not good enough.
In the end you deleted everything you wrote down hoping to start again in the morning with a fresh mind and a basic pros and cons paper. Only now it seems like the little bit of sleep you did get didn't do anything to help you.
After a few hours of trying to finish the second half of your paper your stomach started to rumble giving you the cue that it was time to eat. So you decided to take another break this time in hopes that food would help more than sleep did.
Why was writing down Peter's flaw so hard? He had one just like everyone else does, so what's the big deal? Why couldn't you pin it down into a one page paper and be done with it?
Because you were afraid. Afraid that if you did you would lose the only time you got with him. And suffice to say you've kind of started to enjoy your time with him.
As if summoned, your door buzzer went off.
Who could be visiting you? You don't have any friends here.
You curiously walked over to the intercom and hit the button.
"Yes. Hello?" You called out.
You weren't sure who it could be. You weren't expecting any packages and you had no friends in the city so whoever could be on the other end could be anyone.
"Hey y/n, it's Peter. Peter Parker. From Physics class." Peter's voice created your ears.
Peter? How did he know where you lived? And what was he doing here?
"Ok…what are you doing here Parker? And how do you know where I live?" You slowly questioned.
"Mr Hertz asked me to drop off some of your homework and to check up on you. I swear I got your address from him." He explained, sheepishly. "I didn't stalk you or anything. I swear!"
You could imagine him rubbing the back of his neck or readjusting his glasses, nervously. Something you noticed he did when he talked to you. Something you found a little cute when he did it.
You absentmindedly had a small smile thinking about it.
"I'm fine Parker. Look, why don't you come up? I can buzz you in." You offered him.
"Oh. Umm…that'd be good." Peter said.
He could get in the building on his own but he'd rather not tell you he lived in the same complex as you. A floor above as a matter of fact. It was best if you stayed at a distance and knew as little about him as possible.
He couldn't risk you getting hurt or put in danger again.
You hit the button unlocking the front door of the building, not knowing that Peter already opened the door on his own.
Peter took the stairs, knowing the elevator had a tendency to break down randomly.
You paced by your front door nervously biting your lower lip.
The issue you felt about Peter returning and the thought of your paper returning to you.
Your thoughts were cut short by the knock at your door.
"Who is it?" You asked.
You knew Peter was on his way up but you were still going to make sure it was him on the other side.
"It's Peter." The voice on the other side of the door called out.
You unlocked the door and opened it to reveal Peter. He looked a little disheveled. His face was a little bruised up and his lip cut. It looked a lot like he had lost some kind of a fight.
"Oh my God! Parker what happened to you?!" You exclaimed at the sight of him.
Your hand reaches out to softly touch his bruised face.
Peter relished in your gentle touch. Subtly leaning into it before coming to his senses again.
"Oh this? It's nothing." He tried to reassure you as he reached up and removed your hand from his face.
Already he missed your touch.
"Parker, don't lie to me. You look a mess. Come in and let's put some ice or something on it." You told him, "I think I have something to help speed up the bruising process too."
"You really don't have to worry about it." Peter tried to tell you but you already walked further in your apartment to find whatever it was you needed for him.
So Peter walked in and started to look around. Peter noticed you had your laptop out and opened and his curiosity got the better of him. He walked you and took a peak at what was on it.
It was the paper about him.
He was surprised by what you had started to write out.
You told him you were going to write about his inability to notice basic things but this paper said nothing like this.
It was actually quite flattering. So much so that Peter started to blush a little by the compliments you gave him.
He pulled away from the computer when he heard your footsteps coming back
"Found it." You called out before entering the room.
Upon looking at Peter you noticed the gust of pink on his checks.
"Peter, are you ok? Do you feel warm?" You questioned him.
Peter blushed even harder, from embarrassment this time.
He didn't realize he was blushing but when you walked up and put the back of your hand against his forehead he didn't stop you.
"Well, you don't feel too warm so that's good. And I found the bruise stuff." You informed him.
He smiled at you and something in you felt warm too.

When Fate Intervenes- tasm!Peter Parker x Reader Part 2
[Part 1]
Peter arrived first, not knowing there would be a second party to this whole ordeal.
The office was not too big and had a cozy feeling to it. There were books filling the couple of bookshelves lining two of the walls. A comfy chair and a couch sat in the center of the bookshelves.
On the other side of the office there was a desk with a couple more books, papers, and plants. Sitting at the desk was Peter's psychics teacher, Mr. Hertz.
He was a man in his fifties. The grays of his hair were showing through the browns, more so on the side of his head. There were lines on his forehead from thinking so much and some by his eyes and face from his smile.
"Sorry I'm late Mr. Hertz traffic was terrible getting back here from New York." Peter rushed his words out.
"Relax, Mr. Parker. Though your attendance is one of the reasons we're here today you're actually not the last person to the party." Mr. Hertz told him. Gesturing for him to take a seat.
Peter gave a puzzled look as he sat down in the chair in the corner. Not sure what his teacher meant until you threw yourself into the room in your hurry.
"I'm. so. sorry." You managed to get out in between breaths. "I'm. late."
"Yes, you are Ms. Y/l/n. A common link between you and Mr. Parker here." Mr. Hertz pointed out bringing out attention to the other body in the corner of the room.
You both managed weak hellos when your eyes met. Not sure why the other was in your meeting, other than common attendance issues. But if that was the case you knew of a couple other students that should be here as well.
"I'm going to make this plain and simple. I'm going to do somewhat of an experiment with the two of you in exchange for wiping your attendance problems for the semester." Mr. Hertz began
The premise seemed promising. You could definitely do with a clean slate.
Peter was thinking the same thing and he did love a good experiment just us ones that didn't involve himself as a guinea pig. After his Spider-Man bit and the fight with the Lizard he made sure to be extra cautious around new science ventures.
"What kind of experiment? Like test subjects? Guinea pigs?" Peter started rambling off words seeing if anything stuck.
"Oh no, dear boy. Nothing that drastic. Merely to see if I can get two bright students to their full potential. See you and Ms. Y/l/n are both some of my brightest students. I know because I've seen Ms. Y/l/n help students understand the reading or homework and I've seen your homework and grades Mr. Parker. " Mr Hertz went on to explain, " but somewhere the two of you are lacking in some part of the course work. I want the two of you to get together after school and figure out what it is and how to make it better. I expect to see the results of your findings by the end of the semester."
But Peter and you let out a groan, both of you not having the time to babysit someone with the workload you already have.
You took a glance at Peter before thank Mr. Hertz for this opportunity and turning to leave.
It took a moment for Peter's brain to catch up to what was going on around him. He was still trying to figure out how he could juggle this with everything else in his life. Last thing he needed was to add a civilian into his life. Not again.
He saw you walk out the door and knew he needed to talk to you about getting out of this.
"Hey wait!" Peter called out, after saying goodbye to Mr. Hertz.
You turn around in the hallway to see the guy from the meeting, Peter, standing there.
"Peter, right?" You questioned when he caught up with you.
"Yeah and you're y/n?" He asked
"Yep. Can I help you? Look, I'm tired and just want to get home." You asked a little quick and slightly biting, the weight of the day getting to you. Before mentally facepalming yourself. This guy did nothing to you and for all you knew was just stuck in the same lane boat ride as you were. But you also didn't want to make friends, you just wanted to get by and try to manage your life.
"Look, I'm sorry. Did you need something from me?" You reattempted your first question.
"Yeah. Yeah. Umm…I just wanted to see if we could get a date set to meet up for this." Peter stumbled a bit over his words.
"I'm not gonna lie, I'll have to figure something out. I already have a very tight schedule as it is and I'm not sure how I'm going to fit this into any of it." You explained to the man.
He wasn't prepared for your attitude towards the whole situation. Never expecting you to feel the same way about this thing.
"Oh. Yeah. Cool. Just let me know when is good for you. Guess I'll see you in class." Peter said as you nodded and gave him a small wave before heading out the building.
Something about you intrigued him but he shook his head. He made a promise never to get close to anyone again for their own good.
And it seemed like you were on the same page. Both of you needed this to work but without putting in the work. If only you could figure out how to manage that.
Peter took off in the other direction on his skateboard itching to get back to patrol. While you headed back home to study for the remainder of the night.
Both of you putting this meeting in the way back of your minds. Because what are the odds you'd actually need someone like Peter Parker in your life or he'd need you?
When Fate Intervenes- tasm!Peter Parker x Reader Part 3
[Part 1] [Part 2]
Days went by without the two of you thinking about the other. Something more important always came first. For you it was work and other classes. For Peter his time as Spider-Man seemed neverending.
It wasn't until the morning the two of you finally arrived for class that you noticed there was a change in seating. Notably the only two seats available were next to each other and that you were praying the other person was sick for the day.
It wasn't the case when Peter swiped into the seat next to you and gave you a weak wave.
"Mr. Parker. Ms y/l/n. Please see me after class." Mr.Hertz bellowed out as he continued writing on the chalkboard.
Some snickering would be heard around the room but you paid it no mind. Rolling your eyes before you get out your textbook and notebook to hopefully get down some good notes.
Peter still was a light embarrassed for being called out like that and sunk down a bit before following you and grabbing his own supplies out.
After the lecture the two of you waited as everyone else darted out the room. Some lingered to try and catch what the professor was talking to you two about but his stern look told them to leave.
"How's the experiment coming along?" He questioned when the two of you walked up to his desk.
"Well…" Peter began before you cut him off.
"Splendly." You quickly said, "we were just about to grab something at the cafeteria and discuss what we could be lacking some more." You nudged Peter, hoping he'd go along with it.
"Yeah. Right. We were just about to do that. At the cafeteria." Peter's short phrasing not going unnoticed by you or the teacher.
"Well then I won't keep you but I expect a paper from each of you about what the other person could possibly be lacking by next week. '' Mr. Hertz warned.
Once outside the classroom you tapped your textbook to your forehead and gave out an exasperated sigh. So much for getting a nap in before work today.
"Alright, Parker lead the way." You said as you turned to your companion.
"What? You were serious in there?" He asked puzzled for a moment
"Yeah. So you coming or what?" You shouted over your shoulder as you continued walking.
"Yeah. Yep." Peter replied as he lightly jogged to catch up to you.
The two of you made it to the cafeteria and found a small table in the corner to sit at.
"So tell me something about you Parker?" You pointedly said.
"Uh. Where do I begin? I've lived in Queens my whole life with my Aunt May." He began to ramble off.
"Peter." You laugh, put a hand on his shoulder to stop him, "Facts about you as a student. I'm pretty sure this whole thing has to do with that aspect of our lives." You told him your idea.
"Oh. Right. That makes sense." Peter muttered.
"You know for such a smart guy you sure missed such a basic thing. Maybe that's one of the things you're lacking." You pointed out.
"You might be right but then what is it that makes you lacking?" He quickly turned to ask.
"I don't know. I have a problem with turning in work I guess. I just feel it's so mondaine." You honestly told him, "I'd rather spend my time helping other people understand the work or reading than do the paperwork."
Peter could understand that. Half the time he didn't want to trouble himself with doing the needless homework that the professors tended to give him either but regardless he made sure to run through them before every class
"I can understand that." Peter admitted "but for someone who doesn't want to make friends you sure do like helping people." He pointed out.
Peter was right. You do like to help people but that didn't mean you had to make friends with them. That takes more time and energy than you were prepared for, not to mention most of the people here weren't people you'd want to be friends with.
They were stuck more on themselves than actually making lasting friendships. And you didn't have the time or energy to give it to someone who wouldn't last in your life.
Peter and you were stuck in the same boat and didn't even realize it. The two of you needed each other more than you knew.
"It's complicated Parker, I'm not sure you'd fully understand but I've been burned too many times by fake people and I just don't have the energy for it anymore." You sighed, the weight of your words making you seem older than you are.
That interest in you started up in Peter again. What had happened to you in your past to close you off of friendships so badly?
There was something about Peter too that interested you. Sure you noticed him in class when he'd come in later than you, bruised up sometimes even. He'd always know the answer to the question the teacher would ask without even knowing the full question. It was fascinating, really. Made you want to know what went on inside his head.
"Well I guess we have what we need for our papers, see you around Parker." You said as you picked up your bag to leave.
Something in Peter wanted him to make you stay a little longer but he too had to leave for patrol.
"Yeah. See you later." He agreed as he watched you leave before coming back to reality and heading out on his own path.
The whole time on patrol Peter was trying to think back to seeing you in class but it was hard for him to do. He was more focused on hiding his identity and various bruises as best as he could.
He was pretty sure he'd remember a pretty girl like you if he saw you but for the life of him he just couldn't place you and it was driving him crazy.
His thoughts were abruptly halted by a scream from a small convenience store near his apartment complex.
"Great. Just when I was about to call it a night." Peter groaned.

The last thing Peter expected to find during a routine robbery was y/n.
He was going through his usual banter routine when the sight of you distracted him enough for the other robber to get the upper hand.
Now there was a gun pointed to her head and Peter hated the hostage situation as it was but something about seeing her in one made him into a very angry hero.
Something he didn't waste time showing with the people in the room. Unfortunately all he could do was agree to the terms set before him but that didn't mean he was actually going to follow them.
"Common Mike, get up already." The one with the gun shouted to his partner.
Great, Peter had the name of one of the goons, something to listen out for in the streets after they left.
The one with the gun moved with y/n out from the counter and to the back of the store. His partner was still trying to get the webbing off from his feet as he reached the backroom.
As Mike got the webbing off his feet the three quickly disappeared into the back room.
Peter was thankful he came in through the back and decided to show himself to the lady back there and tell her to get out, and that she actually listened to him.
Last thing he needed was this guy to get spooked and shoot someone. Or have to deal with a Spider-Man hater too.
Peter dropped down from the ceiling once the thugs had left with y/n.
"You're gonna go after them, right Spider-Man?" The guy that got hit in the face asked him. He was bleeding from his forehead
"You can count on it." Peter said as he listened closely, the sound of police and ambulance sirens could be heard. "Make sure you get that gash checked out."
"I will but please save y/n. I saw her grab some pepper spray. I'm afraid she might try and save herself." He warned.
Perfect just what Peter needed another variable added against him.
"Thanks for the tip." He replied before rushing out the back and jumping at the building across from him and climbing up it.
Peter had his ears opened to any sounds of distress or gun fire. He didn't leave too long after the robbers and he also didn't know what way they went. If they were on foot or in a vehicle now.
"Let me go!" He finally heard.
"Either there's two hostage situations going on or I hit a bingo." Peter thought to himself as he took off swinging in the direction of the shouting.
It looked like the two idiots had taken a vehicle only for it to break down. They were now trying to y/n force down back alleyways with them and being this was a crime neighborhood no one was helping.
A thwip was the only sound you heard before one of the goons disappeared.
"Hey! We had a deal Spider-Man!" The one holding your wrist yelled out.
Peter quickly disarmed him, "Deals off." He venomously replied.
You took it as you opening to pull the guys mask off and spray him with as much pepper spray as you could.
Thwip.
A shot of web hit your waist and you were pulled free and into the arms of New York's hero.
"Stay here." He commanded, in a voice that seemed deeper than what his normal voice should be.
Peter had you safe now it was time this guy learned his lesson for good. He shot some web behind the guys so fast he didn't even catch that there was a giant spider web now directly to his rear.
Peter just had to take a step forward for the guy to turn and run right into.
But Peter didn't want to stop there. Guys like him would just keep coming back and get more dangerous. No, to Peter he needed to end it here.
You watch as Spider-Man approaches the man and your once captor starts to throw punches at him. Spider-Man easily dodged them before he threw his own. The hits were filled with rage but you couldn't understand why, even though things had worked out in his favor. Why was he so angry? The final hit knocked the guy back and straight into the web and the hero took a
step forward to continue.
"Stop!" You yelled out, finally finding your voice. The shock and adrenaline wearing off you. "This isn't how heroes are supposed to act."
Peter stopped for a moment regarding your words as you continued.
"Heroes are supposed to help people and stop the bad guys. But not like this. This doesn't make you any better than they are." You warned him.
You were right, but there was just so much loss and rage in Peter it fell on deaf ears. The man before him was battered and blooded. He lost consciousness with Peter's first hit and others were just his anger fueling him, urging him to keep going.
"Look I'm new to this whole superhero thing but my friend John is a big fan of yours. Please, don't do something to tarnish that." You pleaded with him.
At the mention of you having a friend Peter stopped, his eyes went wide. You told him you didn't have time for friends, so who's this John guy?
Intrigue took over Peter as he turned to face you now. He took notice of the way your hair looked slightly out of place from the struggle you were in and the red ring around your wrist that you'd have to explain to him tomorrow.
You were like a puzzle to Peter and he wanted to solve you but some pieces his body didn't react logically to. Why should he care if you have a friend named John? He shouldn't. He doesn't. Does he?
"Um…no. Can't have John thinking poorly of me." Peter finally answered when he realized he had been staring at you for a little too long. Maybe John was just made up? Someone to take the place of what she really thought of him? He could live with that.
"Good. So…if you're finished here," You told the hero, circling your finger around in front of you "I'm gonna head home."
"Wait!" He shot out, causing you to stop.
"At least let me take you home, I want to make sure you get there safely." He pleaded.
"That's ok." You answered, taking a step back as he took one towards you.
He might be John's hero but after seeing him easily beat up a guy to a pulp like it was just a Sunday walk and how he seemed to have no remorse for how badly he hurt him?
You weren't so sure if he was fully deserving of the hero title. Maybe antihero seemed like a better fit at this point in his career. You still weren't sure.
