Our second City of Dreams task will be: playlists!
Let us get to know your characters based on their music preferences! Below will be a few different prompts you can use to create the playlists or come up with any idea of your own, the prompts are just suggestions. Playlists can be posted by either typing them as a list, creating a playlist on a streaming platform and posting it, or doing a combination of the two! Be sure to use #cityofdreamstask and tag @cityofdreamstasks in your posts so we can reblog them. And as usual, feel free to make as many playlists as you want.

Rayâs back was super sweaty. It definitely wasnât the thing he should be focused on, all things considered, but the thick flannel stuck to his back like a second skin was uncomfortable. Like, unbearable sweaty. You would think growing up in Georgia all of his life that the he would have acclimated to the humidity but-
âRay?â
Ray blinked up at the intimidating man in front of him. Shoot, he thought to himself, he already forgot this guyâs name, too. Heâs flanked by a less intimidating looking woman and someone taking notes in the corner. Which was part of the reason he was so sweaty. That, a lack of shower for far too long, and the humidity.
âSorry sir, where are my manners?â Ray said with his most charming smile, the one that makes his cheek dimple and his eyes crinkle just a little. What was the question again? Right. Where was he from?
âI grew up in a small town southâa here. Barely a spec of dust on the map. But I spent most of the outbreak at Fort Benning.â
A typical Ray answer, friendly enough to give information but vague enough to not actually give information. There was a scribbling noise as the recorder documented his answers. Ray tried not to stare or look too nervous.
âHow would you describe yourself?â
âCountry boy,â Ray answered instantly. âBorn and bred in Georgia, Go Dawgs.â
A simple and safe answer. Ray felt like he was back in grade school again. Was it possible to be wrong answering questions about himself? Could he fail a Ray Turner quiz?
âHow many walkers have you killed?ââ
âI donât-â his smile faltered for the first time since sitting down. âSorry, Iâm not sure how many walkers Iâve taken care of.â
Itâs hard to kill the undead. Despite that glazed over look in their eyes and the feral hunger, every single walker was a person at some point. Ray said a prayer, every night before bed when he was outside of the Fortâs walls, for every undead person he had to put down, but he never kept a body count. It felt too disrespectful of the dead to keep a tally list, nameless and faceless.
âEnough to stay alive, I guess. I can protect myself.â
âHow many people have you killed?â
âNone,â the answer was firm and instant. âIâve never harmed nobody alive.â
âAre you searching for anyone?â
That question threw Ray for a loop. He paused, scratching at the wild beard he had been sporting. He hoped Fairvale had razors.
âMy family was in Texas. No idea where they wound up, but Iâd like to see them again.â
There wasnât a day that goes by that Ray doesnât think about his parents and Jesse. Where where they? Where did they wind up? Are they still alive? Did he make the biggest mistake of his life by not leaving with them?
âWhy are you here?â
Ray paused to think over the loaded question. Why was he here, in this random settlement he had no ties to? Itâs a good question.
âA fresh start,â Ray answered carefully. âWe found Fairvale at random, and it seemed like a good place to settle down, lay some roots.â
âWould you consider yourself a team player?â
âYeah, definitely. Weâre stronger together. Towns like this... theyâre the future humanity needs. It takes a team to rebuild.â
Jesse did always say heâd be a great footballer. Too bad he wasnât allowed to play on the team.
âAre you the type of person who will try to make the best out of a bad situation?â
âWhen life gives you lemons, make lemon-flavored moonshine,â Ray answered with another grin. âThatâs my dadâs old joke, on account of us beinâ genuine moonshiners and all. Yâall got a bar here?â
âWhat skills do you have that will benefit the community?â
âIâm pretty handy.â Ray could sell himself. This question feels easier. âReally good with American made motorcycles and trucks, and I can get by with the rest. I can hunt and fire a rifle as long as you donât expect Anne Oakley. I pour a mean cocktail, can make my own liquor too if yâall got the rig to do it. Been told I got a face thatâs easy to talk to. I suppose thatâs a skill too, nowadays, right?â
âCan you handle yourself in a crisis?â
âI think so. Worldâs nothinâ but a crisis right now. The goal is not to let it chew us up too much so that we can make it to the other side in one piece.â
âWhat are you willing to do to protect the people and things you care about?â
âYâall really donât pull any punches with these questions, huh?â Ray took a moment to think over his answer.
âIâm not a man of violence, but that isnât realistic any more. I know how to defend myself. If it comes down to it, well, Iâd gladly take up arms to keep mine safe.â
âDo you have any pre-existing medical conditions our medical staff should be informed about?â
âNope.â Ray hated lying, but it was more a fib. It wasnât a condition, really, just a reality. âFit as a fiddle.â
Any medical needs... well, Rayâs been doing just fine on his own. He always had, and he didnât need any help now.
âYâall got any more questions for me?â He asked after they wrapped up. Cautious optimism flooded him. He had a good feeling about Fairvale.

This playlist starts out soft and slow, showing Aryaâs inner vulnerability and reflecting on moments from her childhood. Then, like her, it transitions into something cynical and angry, showing the evolution of her personality. If you would like to give it a listen, you can check it out on Spotify here.
Youâll Be In My Heart - Phil Collins |Â âThis bond between us canât be broken. I will be here, donât you cry.â
This song is a guilty pleasure for Arya. It reminds her of her childhood and all that she has lost along the way. In moments of weakness, it gives her strength and reminds her that her loved ones will always remain in her heart.Â
Wild World - Cat Stevens |Â âAnd itâs breaking my heart youâre leaving. Baby, Iâm grieving.â
As someone who grew up listening to her parentsâ records, Arya has a true appreciation for the classics. This song also foreshadows Aryaâs future and leaving town to go out into the world on her own. Although this song wasnât written about a father/daughter relationship, it holds a lot of truth to what Dusty was feeling when his daughter left Mystic.Â
Vienna - Billy Joel |Â âYouâve got your passion, youâve got your pride. But donât you know that only fools are satisfied?â
As stated in her bio, Arya spent a lot of time getting to know her mother through the record collection she left behind. Billy Joelâs album, The Stranger, was by far her favorite growing up. While a handful of these songs could have been on the playlist, this was always one of Aryaâs favorites because she could identify with its lyrics. (Honourable mentions to Movinâ Out and Only The Good Die Young)
Tell Me How - Paramore |Â âI canât call you a stranger, but I canât call you.â
Arya could never admit to missing Erin, but she thought about her almost daily. This song is about a relationship/friendship being over and not knowing how to feel about a person who once meant so much to you. For Arya, dealing with these emotions have always been difficult and itâs hard not to care, even when she tells herself she doesnât.
When You Were Young - The Killers |Â âSometimes you close your eyes and see the place where you used to live, when you were young.â
This is a song about the loss of innocence and how things arenât always the way you imagined them to be. When Arya was young, she would dream about the day her mom would come back for her, the day sheâd get married, the day sheâd have a successful band. But she feels rather naive to have done so.
Bad At Love - Halsey |Â âI know that youâre afraid Iâm going to walk away each time the feeling fades.â
This song is pretty self-explanatory. No matter how hard Arya tries, she has trouble letting people in and isnât very good with love or relationships.
Somebody To Love - Jefferson Airplane |Â âWhen the truth is found to be lies and all the joy within you dies, donât you want somebody to love?â
Secretly, Arya yearns for an unconditional love. Somebody who is going to be there for her through all of lifeâs struggles. This song is about just that. Whether itâs romantic or platonic, love will get you through the toughest of times. She also associates the song with her parentsâ relationship, as she used to watch them dance to it in home movies.Â
Cherry Bomb - The Runaways |Â âHello, world, Iâm your wild girl.â
This song pretty much encapsulates Arya -- or at least what she wants the world to see. Someone who is wild, adventurous, and unapologetic. It also hints at her more seductive side.
All Signs Point To Lauderdale - A Day To Remember |Â âI hate this town, itâs so washed up and all my friends donât give a fuck.â
This is a pretty angry song about hating your hometown and the people in it -- about feeling like you donât belong. It perfectly describes Aryaâs feelings toward Mystic.
Bad Reputation - Joan Jett | âI donât give a damn âbout my reputation.â
Probably the most self-explanatory one of all. Arya has a bad reputation and she doesnât give a single fuck what people think of her. (So she likes to believe.)
The living room is basked in a gentle light to keep the atmosphere soft. The kitchen features modern and slick appliances and is used every night for dinner. Two bedrooms occupy the hallway, with the home office in middle. Outside in the front, is usually decorated to reflect the mood of the month and a salt water pool takes up most of the backyard. Clara lives alone and prefers it that way. You can usually find her dancing in the kitchen or reading in the living room.
Clara has two favorite rooms: the kitchen and her home office. Both places spark creativity in her mind in different ways. She loves to make delicious food and host dinner parties. But the office is where she really lets her mind go wild. It's where she comes up with all her ideas for the boutique, drawing her talents on the paper, fingers dipped in charcoal. Her entire house is a comfort for Clara and she's eternally grateful to call NOLA home.
