bio:

samir osman had never wanted to become a steward.

born march 4, 1968, mere days before the violet sun radiation event, his early life was shaped by the new relationship stewards had with the public and the government. he'd manifested his permutation at only a few months old- flickering the lights of their small apartment when he cried as a baby- and his parents, arab immigrants who had come to the us only a decade or so prior, had little faith that the government would treat their son with any sort of humanity after seeing the world's reactions to older permuted people- and to themselves.

his childhood is spent trying to understand and control his permutation, practicing and honing his skill just so he could keep his head down. by the time national stress reflex tests become common at schools and workplaces, he's already gotten a decent handle on his permutation. he'd mostly used it to make sure the lights stayed on at home, maybe play a few tricks, but had no intentions of using it for anything remotely heroic- it was a secret kept between him and his parents, and had it instilled within him that it would always be better that way. his family's beliefs became instilled within him: the government isn't trustworthy, they don't like people like us, and they certainly won't like someone like you.

sami was twenty when people stopped seeing those affected as "permuted" and began seeing "superheroes". as any twenty-year old boy would, a part of him yearned to take advantage of his potential, get tested, and see how fame could treat him. the man his parents raised was more fearful of the risks; of how a mistake could cut power to a hospital or stop the current from reaching someone's heart; of how letting them make him into figure could make him less of a person. 

so he keeps his head down.

sami goes into a trade, meets a girl at a friend's party, and settles down. he gets married, keeps steady work, and has two kids by thirty. normalcy is easier to maintain like this, with a wife who has no idea about the permutation in his dna, a steady job that has nothing to do with what he could do, and kids who he'd hope will see him as a hero, even without knowing about the permutation.

he'd expected to live life like any other person his age after that- work normal hours, put his kids through school, retire with his wife and never use his permutation for anything more than flicking on a light without stepping over to the switch. 

but things never really tend to go as planned.

he and his wife separate when his kids are in their late teens- mostly mutual, even if he's still holding out some hope of a reconciliation- and then his kids move out for college. he's proud of them, he is, but college isn't as cheap as it used to be, and with alimony payments on top of that...

sami started out on bring your own hero at fifty-two, intending to keep it as small and quick as possible- he's middle aged, was planning to retire, and has spent his whole life avoiding heroism- he doesn't trust the f.b.a.i., doesn't want to become famous, and had only joined to avoid picking up a second job that'd be more demanding than this. 

it was supposed to stay small- registered with a basic name related to his permutation like volt or lightning, kept his eyes hidden under a hat, hood, and half of his face covered behind a mask, and planned to delete the app once his kids’ tuition was paid off. but six years later, he finds that he's still doing it, still responding to requests even if a part of him dreads opening the app every morning. 

"buzzkill" was the invention of some user online two years in, disappointed at his lack of spectacle; it makes him smile a little every time he sees it.

that type of career, though, at his age, isn’t without its consequences. sami has always been aware that his permutation can affect the human body, but he never imagined that it’d affect him. if he overuses the current, that energy stays in his system. his nerves misfire when there's too much electricity left over; a sharp shock of pain that’s practically random and enough to make him physically flinch. after straining the current, his muscles might twitch or spasm. and even without all that, he knows he doesn’t heal the way he used to.

heroism doesn't come naturally to him, and he'd rather stick to small favors rather than being a savior, but after six years of standing on the first step to public stewardship, he’s become less able to stand by when he knows he's got the ability to help. but as people start taking more notice, and his permutations begin taking a toll, he's starting to really consider just giving the whole thing up.

and yet, he still hasn't. 

wanted connections:

open to all types of connections but mainly looking to explore platonic dynamics! also really excited to plot sami's relationships with other, more public-facing stewards, considering his opinions on the whole thing- but here are some ideas I had in mind:

the mentee? sami's a father, and seeing younger stewards working on the streets is fundamentally against everything he's believed all his life. so he tries to be mentor to this person. the problem? he's fifty-eight and has very little experience in real stewardship. more often than not, he's the one getting advice from them, and not the other way around

the double lifer sami still works a day job as a contractor outside of his freelance work for b.y.o.h. this person saw him or hired him to do work for them, maybe at a workplace like valerian or soma or a common area. then, they saw him when he was doing work for b.y.o.h., and started connecting dots. whether they use that information to try and support or destroy him is up for plotting ;>

the (almost) friend sami hadn't intended to stay at b.y.o.h. long, and mostly avoided making friends because of that. but as he's spent longer doing work on the platform, he's started seeing and speaking to this person more. still, he hasn't really let himself get close- he's not willing to really open up with them, but they're trying to change that.

the kids sami's kids! i'm gonna keep this very loose because it would vary a lot per muse, but sami cares a lot about his children and wants nothing more for them to succeed (i mean, he joined b.y.o.h. to pay for them to go to college). would love to explore the dynamic between him and a kid who wants to go into/has gone into professional stewardship, or just him and a kid with a permutation (esp if it manifests later in their life!)

beatrix was raised by her mother, who had her when she was only 16 years old. because of this, it was as if the two grew up together and learned from each other's mistakes throughout their lives. although she was always close with her mother, trixie would never allow herself to be restrained or controlled, even as a child – and especially as a teenager. thankfully, her mother was supportive, coming to her defense whenever she got in trouble at school and providing encouragement toward her reckless endeavors – including their shared habits of gambling and occasionally overindulging in vices. she trusted her daughter to be wise, street smart, and resilient enough to survive whatever she may encounter, and knew there was no point in trying to stop her from doing as she pleased, anyhow. plus, that would've made her even more hypocritical than she already tended to be. in some ways, trixie contemplates on whether she really had a mother raising her, or just a best friend and enabler throughout her formative years.

it did not take very long for beatrix to discover her permutation, given her inclination toward the vaguely life-threatening activities that tend to come with some injuries along the way. she always noticed that her scrapes and scratches healed significantly more quickly than others as a child but did not pay much mind to it, as they were fairly minor injuries and she assumed she was simply lucky. however, as she got older and engaged in more and more high thrill pursuits, the risk of injury increased. after sustaining a deep cut to her knee in her late teenage years while rock climbing and realizing that the wound had stopped bleeding entirely before she could even complete her journey to the top of the wall, she grew suspicious that there might be a more complex reasoning behind her accelerated healing.

after further investigating her suspicions with her “poking method,” she immediately experienced an increase in her energy and had a strange internal feeling that she could actually somehow control the flow, temperature, and state of matter – yet she was unaware of the degree as to which she was capable of such manipulations. with further experimentation and very privately practicing, she concluded that she was indeed capable of manipulating blood in some very strange, yet dominant ways. trix developed her power into what it has become today through trial and error as she continued (and sometimes continues) to push it to the edge of its limitations, growing somewhat of a fixation on enhancing as many valuable defensive and offensive abilities as possible. she believes that if she is going to be any sort of 'hero', it seems that they all had to sacrifice something in some way to get where they want to be, so there's no reason she should be exempt.

this seemingly harmless inclination can be incredibly risky in relation to trixie's power, as sacrificing too greatly during these well-intentioned experiments could be fatal. however, trixie mitigates this serious risk by never removing her thorned rose ring in order to ensure that she always has access to her trusty "piercing activation tool." this allows her to avoid needing any drastic means of activating her power -- despite her various dicey endeavors, she has astute situational self preservation instincts and fully intends on living her life to the nth degree, here for both a good time and a long time.

even prior to discovering her own power to its fullest extent, beatrix had a sort of fascination with permutations and a disdain toward those who were determined to suppress and ostracize permutated individuals. she frequently studied ‘the violet sun radiation event’ and the different ways that it affected people, as well as the laws and regulations that came to be as a result. upon becoming familiar with her own permutation and researching the professional heroism industry, she figured that if her power would likely eventually be discovered anyways, she may as well get something out of it and make a name for herself. besides, perhaps it could be useful (and satisfying) to strike fear into the hearts of those who wished to do so toward people who really didn’t deserve it. 

beatrix views the professional heroism industry as a means of control, exploitation, and suppression. she thinks that “corporate puppets” who evaluate marketability choose to willfully misunderstand permuted people are “projecting their personal insecurities about their own lack of originality and spice” onto people with powers – although she also acknowledges that their mindset is a part of a much larger issue rooted in historical ostracization. she also considers the f.b.a.i. 's rankings to be arbitrary and reductive, believing that every power is meaningful to someone, therefore their value should not be determined by an individual assessment. however, she subconsciously relishes in being simultaneously feared and praised for her fierce abilities.

IV. wanted connections

partner in crime: someone that trixie (mutually!) views as her equal in power, strength, and fierce personality. basically they would become besties, but probably start off as semi-rivals on the surface. they would go from seeing each other as competition to admitting that they’re better off working together rather than against each other as they grow a closer friendship. — ⋆ ✮ ❥ filled by zaya (flare) ♡

the mentee who becomes the mentor: a gentle, kind soul that beatrix is real protective over! she initially intends to be a source of guidance, comfort and support for them (can be to help them further develop their powers, move up in ranking, general emotional support/working through things, etc., any motivation that works for their muse is up to their own discretion :)). she sheepishly and hesitantly finds herself seeking these things from them. hopefully she finds what she's subconsciously looking for in them and they maintain a positive, balanced friendship, but muse's response is totally their own call! this dynamic is lowkey a projection of her relationship with her mother and what she wasn’t able to find within her.

slow burn friends-to-lovers: beatrix is not very emotionally transparent. she has difficulties/embarrassment about showing vulnerability and a pesky tendency to tell unnecessary lies for “self protection,” so she’s not the most well versed in committed, monogamous relationships. however, the right person could definitely turn her heart soft and lock it in. :)

online childhood friend/bestie: the only real connection trix already had established before moving here is with a friend she met online as a preteen. the rest of her childhood friends are back in colombia, so she has a special place in her heart for this friend and they find safety/solace in each other. they know each other’s deepest secrets and most embarrassing moments, and balance each other's personalities, strengths, and weaknesses!

Norman Vause: Born in London to a working class, semi Scottish family, he came to America to find work and ended up meeting and marrying Sid's mother. Norman was a big drinker, often spending most of his weekly wage on booze in the local pub. Sid hated him, and they often came to blows about Normans treatment of Sid's mother. He died of Acute Liver Failure when Sid was 13 and even now, after 42 years, Sid has never once forgiven or missed his father.

Deborah 'Debbie' Vause (nee Santorini): Born to Italian immigrants from Sorrento, Italty, Debbie met and married Norman mostly against her families wishes. She went on to have 5 children with him, and her parents seemed to hate him more and more with each baby born. She was a kind but stern woman and Sid adored her. She was murdered in a robbery gone wrong and Sid and his sister still, to this day, have yet to come to terms with their mothers murder. Sid took her death particularly hard and it very much cemented him on his path into a criminal life.

Norma Jean Vause: Sid's younger sister by barely a year, Norma was named for their father and seems to bare all the same afflictions he did. A fiend for the drink, Norma held down several odd jobs as a teenager before eventually moving to London to chase the Vause paternal parentage. A talented musician, she began working the club circuit from London to Brighton to Blackpool, but she has yet to be successful on the family history front. Sid is still in touch with her and last he's heard, she's living with a rando boyfriend in Luton, spending most of her money on booze.

Anne Elizabeth Vause: The most intelligent but stubborn member of the Vause family, Anne was determined to not let her family circumstance define her. She moved to Glasow, Scotland as a young woman and it was there she began a career as a doctor. The training was long and difficult, but eventually Anne became Doctor Vause, and now works as a consultant pathologist in Glasgow. She is married to a charming Orthopaedic surgeon and has 3 kids with him. Sid remains in touch with her, but they fight more often than nothing.

Mary Louise Vause: A shallow minded but very loving member of the Vause family, Mary had dreams of stardom that her family never supported. She moved to Hollywood as a young woman and tired to make it big, but ended up stripping to make ends met. She was savvy enough to meet and marry a rich regular at the club though, and Mary and her new Italian husband ended up moving to Rome. They have 2 children together Mary thrives at being a stay home mother. She cooks for her family, drives a fancy car and dresses well thanks to her rich, hotel owning husband. She and Sid are still in contact, but Mary often goes months without replying to a message.

Rebecca Helen Vause: The most savvy of his sisters and probably the only one who could have cut it along side him in a life of crime, Rebecca thrived in chaos. She liked to start things and then slowly, like a parasite, take control and fix it. Sid was strangely watchful of his youngest sister for this reason. She attended University and qualified with a honours in journalism and Media, and then immedtely left America for south Africa. Sid is still in touch with his sister, but gun to his head he could not tell you where in the world she is.

The Ex Wife: Sid met her when he was 18 and they were married barely a year later. He was young and dumb and had no business marrying anyone, but Sid loved her so much. She was gentle with him, in a way no one had ever been before, and he loved nothing more than burying his face in her lap while she stroked his hair and calling him his. After their daughter was born, they were like a perfect little family but after her death, there were just constantly fighting and arguing with each other. There was infidelity on both sides and it was after that, they both decided to part ways. The divorce was messy and they only really speak to each other when it's Judy's anniversary.

Judith Deborah Vause: Judy was his baby, his lil girl. He loved her so much that it could never be put into words. She was perfect from the moment she was born, so smart and so compassionate for someone so young. Sid used to sit with her before kindergarten and put her hair into bunches and make her a sandwich while she sat on the counter with him and babbled about what she was going to do that day. He loved talking to her, he loved picking her up and spinning her around, he loved taking her to the park, he loved playing his music for her when they went for a drive. Sid loved her. When she died, most of him died along with her and he's never been whole since.

"Hawkins Post, Staff Reporter." As though both officers hadn't been interviewed by Nancy himself more times than she could count. Nancy was the one who'd written the front page on the story she was here to answer for, after all.

Nancy's eyes narrowed incredulously, as though she couldn't believe Powell or Callahan hadn't combed through their list of questions before each witness he'd brought in for questioning. "All due respect, Chief Powell, but I just told you my name ends in Wheeler. Do you really need further elaboration beyond that?"

WERE YOU FORMALLY INVITED TO THE BBQ?

"Well, I don't think my mother needed to formally invite me to something happening in my own backyard, but she did ask me to help prepare for it." She supposed that was as close to an invitation as she would get for someone who lived in the house that was hosting.

WHAT TIME DID YOU ARRIVE AT THE BBQ?

Nancy paused, trying to remember exactly when she'd left the house to free her friends from their wreckage on Main Street. "Well, I was home until about noon, and then, I got a call from Chrissy Cunningham saying she and Steve Harrington were stuck on Main. You remember--you were helping direct traffic, I think? Then, I took them back to my house ... maybe it was almost one by the time we got back."

HOW DID YOU GET TO THE BBQ?

"Well, besides having lived there, I drove everyone back from Main."

Seriously? Wasn't Chief Powell there himself to verify her location? "I don't know, I talked to ... well, Steve Harrington, um, my mother, my father, my brother, his friends ..." she trailed off. "Which friends of your brothers?" "Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair, El Hopper," she ticked off with a shrug. As much as she adored Max Mayfield, she was doing her a favor, not including her in the list of witnesses to her presence.

HOW LONG WERE YOU AT THE WHEELER BBQ, APPROXIMATELY?

"Well, it was from when I got home, until we all ... well, you were there." The Wheelers had all but been put on lockdown, under the eyes of Hawkins PD while the top floor of their home had been yellow taped off.

HOW DID YOU LEAVE THE BBQ? WITH WHOM?

She sucked in a sigh; Nancy knew it was best to remain as cooperative as possible, especially when she knew all of her family had shot straight to the top of the list of suspects, but boy, were Callahan and Powell bad at this. "I left when we all went together in the car, down here. I went home, to bed, right after, when my mom, Holly, Mike, and I left the station."

Nancy was nearly offended by the question. "No, I'm not ... oh, my god, no. Am I going to be subjected to a drug test? Don't you need a warrant for that, Officer?" Powell held up his hands, as though to let the subject go.

HAVE YOU EVER KNOWN MRS. KAREN WHEELER TO LOSE HER TEMPER?

"No, not unreasonably so." Of course, her mother had seemed tense when her father had shown up at the party, but Nancy couldn't imagine any woman would feel particularly comfortable with their ex-husband arriving unannounced at their former home. Nancy herself had been briefly locked in the pantry at one sight of Jonathan. "She's firm, yes, but she remains calm. In fact, I think she only really yells when calling Mike up from the basement for dinner. So, no, I wouldn't say I've ever seen her lose her temper, and I'm one of the people who've spent the most time with her in the past two decades."

Nancy thought back to her father's arrival, when he'd seemed particularly annoyed, more than anything, that he hadn't been invited to a party at what used to be his house. The Sergeant, too, had approached her parents, apparently seeing some tension between the divorcees. "Not particularly, no," she fibbed, unable to throw either of her parents under the bus. "Just the kids, maybe, when we had trouble getting the fire started for s'mores."

Callahan scooted his chair with an agonizing screech against the floor so he could be closer to the table between them. He cast her a look, grasping for more. Max shook her head without missing a beat, treating the officers as if they'd never stepped foot in a classroom their whole lives. They probably hadn't. “Do you need help spelling it? It’s Mayfield. That’s ie, not ei.”  Callahan and Powell exchanged a look before Powell tried again, "Full legal name, please. We're trying to get you out of here as quickly as possible, but we can't do that if you don't answer the question." Max answered, but not without an eye roll, "Maxine Susan Mayfield."

EXPECTATIONS:

This is not a required thing, purely for fun to explore how your muse would handle being in the public eye and how'd they react to being interviewed.

You can tackle this task however you see fit, but I’d suggest focusing on how the character responds to the reporters' questions rather than revealing the actual truth. After all, the public doesn’t need to know everything about the criminal underworld. Hehehe.

You’re not required to answer all the questions; they’re simply a guide for you to pick and choose from. The questions your character is asked can vary depending on their relationship to the deceased or how well they knew them, so feel free to tailor the selection based on your character’s connection to the events.

A chaotic neutral character follows her whims. She is an individualist first and last, valuing her own liberty but not necessarily striving to protect others' freedom.
