(art pending - tarak's face was angular, pale now after not having seen sun for centuries but somehow still looking like his cheeks should be naturally sunkissed. his eyes held a depth of both sorrow and harshness in their dark grey depths. a notable scar crossed his nosebridge, which looked like it had been broken a few times, and that pale face was framed with medium length coiling brown hair. there was no denying where this man had came from now that his helmet was off, he had olympia written all over him.)

Tarak was a proud son of Perturabo, once. He served diligently, believed wholeheartedly in the crusade, and in the Emperor's goals for humanity. He was never very social, very few iron warriors are, but he was someone that enjoyed the company of others, even if the extend of that company was to sit silently in the same room as his brothers or cousins. life as an iron warrior was brutal, of course, but he felt home and found enjoyment where he could.
That all came to a halt on istvaan, where he was stationed next to a squad of Raven Guard. The Iron Warriors were still believed to be on the Emperor's side, and as such these Raven Guard had no qualms trusting him to cover their backs as battle started. It was then that the kill order came.
Tarak was to turn on his cousins, the legion was switching sides in the heat of battle. and Tarak did something he had never done before: He refused the order. instead of acting in treachery, he warned the ravens that he had to retreat, and reported to loyalist command.
he would not fight that day as he refused to turn on any brother or cousin, and was ultimately shipped off to Terra to determine what to do with him. here, he made his oaths directly to Malcador. Oaths that he would remain loyal, that he would swear off any and all connection to the Iron Warriors, that he would never seek connection to them again. which he was very keen on, wanting nothing at all to do with the father and brothers that would so callously turn on those that trusted them, going so far as to try and remove his own progenoid glands (unsuccessfully)
When the deathwatch was formed, he took up the mantle of blackshield, finally finding a place to serve in relative peace. though he feels lonely often, being disallowed from ever fully bonding with his brothers, lest they learn of his past.
