Another Kentuckian, whenever I see Stuart’s name I think of a comment he made about how to qualify home. He said (and I paraphrase) that ‘home is the place in your dreams where your mind can rest; the bedroom of your youth or the fields of your father, always seek to live in the place which brings you peace. This is the place of your homest home.’ He decided to stay in Kentucky and live on his family’s 5th generation farm and to write almost exclusively about Kentucky. He got translated into 60 languages, so something in the local connected with the global. This is a reprint, but I’ve not dug enough to find when the true first edition came out. I found this for rather cheap opened it to find a little photograph hidden in the back along with a lengthy inscription. Score! The inscriptions by Thomas Benton look strangely appropriate for ‘As I Lay Dying., Very Good jacket with a Fine book.
