Repost from @rsnembroiderystudio showing a tapestry I helped conserve a few months ago. Such an honour to work on textiles like this .Posted @withregram • @rsnembroiderystudio 🕰FLASHBACK FRIDAY🕰 Today we are taking a look back to a beautiful tapestry that we restored in our Embroidery Studio a little while back. This 18th century tapestry measured an impressive 4 metres 26cm by 2metres 84cm. It was so big it filled the entire room of one of our studio spaces. Restoration work began by gridding out the entire piece in order to document all the repairs needed. Our specialist team then gave the front and back of the tapestry a light surface clean removing any dust, dirt or insect residue caught within the fibres of the silk and wool threads. Once cleaned the piece was fully supported and then the repair work was undertaken using delicate processes and entirely by hand.
