The vast area of the former Kyaikkasan Race Track in Tamwe township today contains student dormitories and sports facilities, among other things. The stands are in comparatively good shape, evoking the days during which horse races would take place here regularly. The Rangoon Turf Club, a famous racing stable and social institution during colonial days, had its grounds here. The catacombs are now inhabited, possibly by the families of grounds keepers. No galloping sounds are heard anymore. The Yangon Riding Club, for example, moved away from here in 1996, to a new facility in Dagon township. We wonder whether our readers can help us with the exact date when the race track was built?
