#3772 - Talochlamys zelandiae - New Zealand Fan ScallopÂ
Some interesting organisms attached themselves to the shell after it died, too, by the look of it - bryozoans on the inner surface, and I'm not sure what outside. I wonder where the shell could have settled, on such an exposed coastline, for such organisms to grow?
'chlamys' means cloak and used for many scallops, but I can't figure out what talo means. As the specific epithet suggests, it's endemic to New Zealand, and to the Chathams, down to a depth of about 40m.
