Where are we going? We are going to a party. It's a birthday party.
Last night when I was getting off the train I was overwhelmed with this thought:
What if I struck up a conversation with a stranger and I just talked to him in random song lyrics. Would he catch on? Would the conversation be coherent.
I was by myself and I thought that a plausible thing for a stranger to ask me is why are you walking around downtown at night by yourself… or more in line with song lyrics… where are you going? Then I would reply. We are going to a party. It's a birthday party. Happy birthday darling. I would say this by roughly imitating the intonation of the song.
I have always thought that a great test of someones compatibility is their musical tastes. If they have similar music tastes or knew this song well (which happened to be my favourite a few years back) then they would pick up on it. Maybe not right away, but they would remember the curiosity of my words and it would come to them later. I don't know how it would go but now it is something I want to try if the opportunity ever comes up.
