ANT FACTS
While we were looking for new interesting gin related blogs to follow, we came across Anty Gin.
Anty Gin is a collaboration between Copenhagen-based Nordic Food Lab and The Cambridge Distillery ("the world's first gin tailor") and "a new and somewhat different gin".
Well, interesting it indeed is, since it is literally made from/with ants.
Yes, you read right, ANTS!
Now, we realize that this gin-hipsterism (gipsterism?) we also partake in is probably inherently silly, and we, too, sometimes are interested in strange things because they are weird.
But seriously. Ants.
Apparently these ants are "inspiringly sophisticated creatures" and "hold great delicious potential".
"Through distillation of these wood ants, we can explore the tasty universe of these naturally occurring molecules and reactions, capturing the flavours of this fascinating species."
"Each bottle of Anty Gin will contain the essence of approximately sixty-two wood ants."
If the ant part was not enough for the (rest of our fellow) hipsters to come a-running, they will be excited to know that
- all the other botanicals are wild as well
- they only use 100 % organic English wheat
- "every distillation is carried out just one litre a time"
- every bottle is labelled "by hand with The Cambridge Distillery’s 1924 typewriter"
and finally that
- "each bottle of Anty Gin will come with a 50 ml bottle of pure wood ant distillate"
Thus it is not surprising that one bottle (they have made only 99) costs 200 pounds (or approx. 250 euros). Consider snagging one for you - or maybe us? - from their online store. We'd do it if we were rich like you.
