So I went to see the doctor again yesterday.
I had been having really bad fasting blood sugars and almost half the time I tested, it was in the 200s, so I knew I wasn't expecting good news. Â We started talking - my A1C was 7.0.Â
To a girl who started with an A1C of 6.3, that was a hard blow. Â I started to tear up right in the office, almost on instinct. Â I didn't realize how upset I was by this news until I felt my eyes start to water and my voice start to crack. Â
I'm sure I could have done better. Â I could have had more self control. Â I could have eaten better. Â I could have exercised more. Â
She handed me a tissue and tried to console me. Â She said I was still within the range of control. That I was better than most college students. Â Don't worry, because I know you can do better.
She doesn't want to have to put me on any new medication because she feels diet and exercise is the better choice. Â So for the next week I have to record every little thing I eat and test my sugars before and two hours after everything. Maybe writing everything down will guilt me into a healthy diet or maybe it will just make me feel utterly lost.Â
I'm scared of what these results might say. Â About my diabetes and about me.
