And it's ultimately because they bring out the best and worst of each other. Geto acts as Gojo's moral crutch so he can be the most irresponsible version of himself while Geto, uses Gojo as a way to make himself feel better about his holier then thou ideals. In a perfect world Geto wouldve made Gojo want to be a better person, want to develop beyond his wants. While Geto wouldve taken Gojo's example to think more about his own wants rather then what he's 'supposed' to want.

They do eventually end up maturing and doing those things, but after they'd already fallen out and an entire village was dead.

nooo because i actually have SO MANY thoughts about satosugu that the regular shippers don't want to talk about. like, for all that they want to say they were meant for each other, gojo and geto literally did not choose each other, canonically.

and it's because they work as a couple for the same reasons they work as friends, and the friendship wasn't enough for either of them. it wasn't enough to keep geto from going off the edge, and it wasn't enough to take gojo with him.

the "moral crutch" aspect of their relationship literally hinders gojo's character development. for geto, his morals are his life's guiding principles, and for gojo, geto's morals are a sign post. he passes them by, notices them, but ultimately they're kinda a footnote in his journey. gojo learns to care through other people by experiencing life alongside them, by being weak himself at different points in life.

for me i really do love the aspect of like... gojo being deeply impressionable and needy as a young boy. not needy in a way he'd recognize, but hungry in that way that all young teens are; he wants companionship, entertainment, he wants to find his fit in the world that he's actually just getting to know.

geto, on the other hand, grew up in the regular society gojo didn't experience, without the biases or predispositions gojo's birth placed on him. he's very mature. you can see it in his interactions with riko and her maid, geto is very emotionally perceptive.

in many ways - and some satosugu shippers would even agree - geto's leaving was important for gojo's development.

before geto left, gojo lived in a world where being strong meant everything. the only time he failed was when he wasn't strong enough.

but then geto left, and gojo was faced with the reality that no amount of strength could fix what happened.

in the context of this fic, it's especially important that the whole reason gojo was so broken up over it was because he saw geto as an equal. and being equals is fundamentally at odds with gojo using his power against geto. he has to let geto go; even if he keeps geto with him, he loses what made everything special in the first place.

Terrible all around, it cannot end well, 10/10

it is indeed quite terrible and unlikely to end well but i absolutely insist on injecting my delirious optimism and putting on my rose-colored glasses.

as we will see whenever i get around to writing other parts, while gojo and geto did absolutely love each other, their relationship was far from perfect or even complete. and how gojo really feels about geto now is anyone's guess, although the reader's suspicion that gojo still loves him does feel very legitimate.

the concept of gojo wanting to give reader what he would have given geto is a very fascinating one because a core part of gojo's behavior here is that he messed up with geto.

geto was his "equal". gojo have geto the respect, the dignity, the love enough to let him walk away freely.

you are not gojo's "equal" the way geto was and that's a good thing to him. the things gojo loved about geto aren't there in you, and it's precisely because of that, that gojo can have a relationship with you that allows him to keep you with him instead of needing to respect your autonomy.

in a very real way gojo does not want you to replace geto. he wants something better than geto, something that can't leave him or force him into uncomfortable situations.

but at the same time - because their relationship was so imperfect, there is indeed a lot that gojo never got to do with geto. things that he thought they'd have all the time in the world to do.

i'll try to explore it more in other parts (i do want to do a gojo and maybe a geto pov of things going down) but honestly you're right on the money. as much as high school!gojo is supposed to be charming and boyish, if insensitive, he's also... well, high school gojo lol.

it's not exactly like he didn't remember you at all. it's more that... he just didn't think about you. why would he? he's a teenage boy with a giant crush on a long-haired, pretty-faced baddie who he spends every free moment with! of course he's not thinking about you!

and when geto ditches him, well, i do think gojo is entitled to a crashout where he downs an entire gallon of ice cream and listens to sad taylor swift songs... i checked and apparently swift's first big album released in '06 sept (and geto defected in '07 sept) so honestly. he could have.

unfortunately no one slipped gojo the sad girl music and instead he has a mental breakdown. happens to the best of us.

for me at least, an important element here is that there is sincerity. actually right up until the moment gojo chooses to abduct you, everyone involved is actually pretty pure-hearted? so to speak?

gojo was just a high school boy with a crush. he wasn't even really mean to you, just kinda thoughtless with how he said things. he was honest about his feelings, and he really didn't have to be. god knows he didn't talk to geto about his feelings lol.

and you really did feel bad for him. your gift wasn't anything big but it was something that you thought he'd like. you weren't in love anymore but you cared. he used to be happy, you used to love him, and now he was hurting in some of the worst ways you could think of.

it's because gojo remembers explicitly that you had real, genuine feelings for him that he latches onto you so hard. when you confessed you told him exactly what you liked about him, and the way he responded literally proved that he was exactly what you said he was.

if anyone left can understand him, it'll be you. geto dumped him, and gojo can't make geto want him again but you - you already wanted him. he turned you down before, so maybe you don't want him now, but that's only because you couldn't have him! now that you can, you'll change your mind! it'll go back to like how it was!

he can be happy again. he can be with someone who loves him. he can have someone by his side who cares about him.

he doesn't have to be alone forever.

and i get it, i do. like the premise is an outright shitty thing to do - "okay i got rejected let me go back to you even though i rejected you before", that sucks!

but deep down the reality there is that satoru is just really, really not okay. and the other special grade sorcerer who was "not okay" killed over a hundred people. this crashout is relatively controlled!

you are just SO ON POINT because a big part of gojo's character is the romanticization and formative power of youth. he was so pure, so genuine in his feelings, he wasn't even that mean to you when he turned you down - he was honest, like you knew he'd be. and he was happy and in love.

gojo is just. stomping all over those feelings, shoving them down, throwing them away like he can retroactively stop himself from ever having loved geto, and it's sad. it's so fucking sad. he's denying and bastardizing those pure feelings from his happy, innocent youth.

he's barely an adult, his best friend not only dumped him but also has an execution order on his head and gojo is expected to carry it out.

when you think of it like that, gojo is just trying to protect himself in every way he can. it hurts to have to kill geto? fine, he never liked geto anyways. he was rejected and now he's all alone? well, you just sent him a birthday gift, you remember him, and you at least cared for the real him, once.

of course, "talk him out of this delulu mental spiral" is far from the sort of thing i normally write, but i will say that most of my plans are actually for flashbacks (mostly how satosugu fell apart) so the future of what happens after he kidnaps you is kinda up in the air! we'll see~

you know, sometimes i have to remind myself how shitty some of these things feel from the reader's pov. as a writer, i don't really get hurt/upset at the characters' behavior the way i would if i were just reading, because... well, you know. i wrote it. i had it under control the whole time. i can turn around this car at ANY MOMENT, so help me.

however... it's also sort of proving some things that i want to touch on in my fic. like... "not willing to be someone’s second choice" "he’s the one who rejected me...now he's miserable because the guy couldn’t care less" "he’s never going to be my choice again"

my sibling in christ YOU'VE BEEN ABDUCTED XD like he TOOK YOU FROM YOUR HOME WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING. you are basically chained to the radiator!!! he is well aware that you are not consenting to this and he does not plan on letting you out anytime soon, if ever.

but you're hung up about being a second choice and having been rejected before. i mean. you're absolutely not wrong. those are elements of the story that i put there to make it more gut-wrenching and amp up the emotional drama! you're supposed to be upset about it!

to me, unfortunately, this attitude from you screams hateship. it's giving tsundere. gojo's cooing about how cute and grumpy you are while you try to act indifferent. you'll be so happy when he shows up with your favorite meal to share after leaving you alone with no food for 48 hours.

huhuhuhu honestly this was one of the reactions i was trying to tap with the fic! worry not, the reader-insert isn't remotely convinced that he's suddenly in love.

but also... there's this intense draw i see from people, on tumblr and elsewhere, towards tropes and characters that explicitly upset them. there's also squicks absolutely, don't get me wrong, but remember how many people hate cucking but also love byhtd?

sometimes it's like looking into the abyss, you know? walking straight into the darkness that you're afraid of. i know a lot of gojo girlies who feel this anxiety over satosugu because of how intense people are about the ship, and i get it. i'm like that sometimes. you see soooo many people talking about how geto was gojo's one true love and gojo died wanted to be reunited with him blah blah... just all these character speculations that they love to treat as canon.

so here's the gojo that did love geto. gojo who loved geto more than anything, certainly more than you. you got turned down. but so did gojo - geto, as in canon, left him. where did his "love" get him, hm?

and at the end of the day, when gojo was all alone, when he was abandoned and languishing in misery in his darkest hour... you were there. not in a big way. but you thought about him. cared about him. after he rejected you, no less.

there's something there! you're the person he reached out to. you could think of it as him coming crawling back. but who knows? there might also be something to it when he says he never did love geto. it makes sense to feel like he "settled for" you, but for those who are down with the premise, it's a little more complicated than that...

just gojo refusing to accept his feelings for geto because it helps him sleep at night (now next to someone :D <- gojo happy face, plus he doesnt have to kill someone he loves if he refuses to accept that he loves them!) while reader is just staring at the ceiling like "i never should have sent that card..." as gojo nuzzles up against them like a spoiled lap cat

do you think reader is disturbed about how quickly and easily gojo stuffs his (very obvious and very much still there) feelings for geto? or do they just not care bc they have bigger fish to fry (like how tf theyre gonna get away)? would they ever try to make him accept his feelings and the fact that he fumbled a bad bitch like geto???

also if reader WERE to ever reach out to geto would he just be like "nah thats yours now, have fun" and dip? bc i can see that sooooo easily

gojo is just this really delightful mix of "this is fine! everything is fine!" and also having exactly the kind of personality where he can just completely ignore fundamental realities while he goes along his merry way with his delusions.

as long as it makes him happy... as long as he doesn't have to feel lonely or miserable... if he's got someone beside him to hold his hand and occupy his mind instead of all the other, much worse things he could be thinking about - gojo's having a great time.

absolutely delightful dissonance between the cold yandere imprisonment reality vs his personal fantasy of happy domestic life with his loved one.

in the fic itself you definitely don't believe gojo's whole "i don't love him anymore, it's been you all along, etc." narrative, but it's also obvious that he's maybe having like. an Episode. something is not right mentally. a little divorced from reality sfdkjhglsdhg but juuust there enough to keep you prisoner...

as for how geto might react to the news, well... >.> there's actually plans for the satosugu train wreck from gojo and geto's povs in the works, so you'll be able to see what geto was thinking when he left gojo.

i will say that i believe their love was reciprocated, but not to the same degree on both sides, at all times. and at some point, other priorities took over. i think geto would have an emotional reaction to what gojo's doing now and just how far he's fallen, but we'll have to see just what feelings it evokes...

from the "leave him like the rest" comment i'm assuming this is about gojo in "I Take it Back", but if it's not, let me know.

the question here is... what does "run away together" even mean in this context? you're being kept captive by gojo, not by some third party.

i'm not sure what this gojo would be willing to do if you could convince him that you genuinely were in love with him. the problem is that he'll be able to track you down no matter what. there's a nonzero chance he has a gps or cursed energy tag implanted in your body that he can see with his six eyes from miles away.

from his point of view he's certainly providing you with all the pleasures life can offer. i can definitely see him being willing to go out on dates with you just because he likes the idea of it, and of course, he can just teleport you back whenever he wants.

it's not so much "fear" as it is "paranoia", although i suppose that is a kind of fear. for gojo there's the pressing feeling that geto chose to leave him and gojo couldn't do anything about it. he had no control over the things that hurt him the most, even with all his power.
