So... I've been obsessed with this thing called The Thrilling Adventure Hour for a couple years now. I was never a podcast listener, but I am obsessed with anything that references pop culture, classic literature, films -- Basically, anything geeky, nerdy, funny and witty. It's hard to find something that hits all these categories, and as an added bonus, uses amazingly talented performers to deliver the works of art, that are the scripts Ben Acker & Ben Blacker wrote each month, every month, for the last 10 years. Not to mention, NEVER failing to disappoint or fall short on quality. This Hulk of a show SMASHED IT every single time! This past weekend, Thrilling Adventure Hour brought its monthly live show to an end. I kick myself every time, knowing about this show and still not attending it until its last year on stage. However, I am thankful to have been able to go so much within the last year of its run, to meet the amazing cast of WorkJuice Players, and also to have a special meeting with my idol, Paget Brewster. I was fortunate enough to attend the final show, and watching the emotion that played out on stage as the show came to a close, was an honor and privilege. There are so many moments that I will treasure forever from my time at Thrilling Adventure. I was introduced to the Thrilling Adventure Hour a few years ago. One of my favorite actresses, Paget Brewster, had left Criminal Minds, and I wanted to know what else I could see her in. And so, after watching an interview she did, I heard about the Thrilling Adventure Hour, and decided to check it out. I was hooked... I could not believe I had not tuned into this show before. Maybe its the constant film playing in my head with anything I hear, that this piece of magic satisfied, but I could not get enough. My imagination was intrigued. I dove in, head first, into this world of galactic lawmen, hobo princesses, silly superheroes, historical icons & boozy psychic mediums. I took in all I could get, and I fell in love with these characters. They became my friends during long working days trapped in an office. They brought relief and an escape from the pressure and stress of work. They kept me company on what would otherwise have been lonely drives to work, and gigs, and home. And mostly, in the last year of the live shows, they kept me going, during probably, the lowest point in my life. And, I mean, I probably would not be here. Not only did this show bring me laughter and helped me smile through dark times, it also shed light into who I am as a person, and what I want out of life, and encouraged me to let the dreams and creativity I have always suppressed out. Thrilling Adventure Hour, and the people behind it, have truly changed my life. Seeing this small get together of friends transform to this magical powerhouse of orchestrated comedy and talent has been such a privilege. Hearing of the humble beginnings of this show, and the loyalty of all the WorkJuice players, despite busy schedules in the entertainment industry, keep this show a priority is just inspiring. When you get a group of people who become a family, and share the love they share of their talents and craft -- its amazing. And to see this transpire through a decade, and still finish not only strong, but stronger than ever… Its not something that you see very often at all. My new life goal is to one day be a part of something as creatively magical as the Thrilling Adventure Hour. To take an idea, and plant it and watch a field of characters and story wildflowers grow. To grow this garden of creativity, with people who will help mold and shape the life of every idea planted. And to build a family of people who truly just love what they do with a passion. I want that. And Thrilling Adventure Hour has shown me how possible it is, as well as how amazing it can be once it is achieved… And it never truly stops. Also, meeting the WorkJuice Players, and everyone involved, and seeing how amazingly wonderful each and every person is, and how kind and humble they all are, It makes me just want to build and take part of something like it even more. I’ve been given inspiration, motivation, role-models… I know what I want, and I’m going to work SOOO hard to make it happen. I don’t know how, or when it will come… or even in what form. I just know, I will have my own Thrilling Adventure within my own life. An adventure that will become an extension of me, where I will have the creative platform I earn and deserve, and will hopefully be able to share with the world. And hopefully, my end goal, of one day making a difference in just one person’s life, and inspiring the next person to follow their dreams will happen.
