The last book I read: PANTONE: The 20th Century in Color

A book I’d recommend: Even Though I Knew the End by C.L. Polk. Absolutely gorgeous and a deliciously well-written story after many disappointing mediocre books. It was like jumping into a swimming pool (made of beautiful pain) in the relief I felt reading something good after so many things that were disappointing or only okay.

A book I couldn’t put down: The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones. I needed to know how it ended. Aaaaahhhhh!

A book I’ve read twice or more: Let's see... I reread Dracula every year through Dracula Daily? I also read Shannon Hale's books to pieces growing up and occasionally reread my Agatha Christie collection when I need a comfort read.

A book on my TBR: Oh god there are so many. Since it was mentioned by @qqueenofhades I'll say Jade City by Fonda Lee. I hope to get to it soon.

A book I’ve put down: The Lost Bookshop had me in absolute jaw-dropped shock at the pure stupidity of the characters. The most incurious, ignorant, thickheaded, unobservant people I have ever met in fiction. How the fuck was this a bestseller. I threw it at the wall.

A book on my wish list: Alecto the Ninth. TAMSYN. TAMSYN PLEASE. WE MUST STAAAAAAARVE!

A favourite book from childhood: Two Princess of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine

A book I’d give to a friend: I'd recommend The Martian and/or Project Hail Mary to just about anyone.

Last movie: Anora by Sean Baker! Loved it.

Last tv show: In Between 半熟男女. I dropped this at episode 7 even though I appreciate the existence of a cdrama that fully commits to exploring the lies and entanglements of self-absorbed, emotionally stunted young people who've never once effectively communicated their needs in their life. I love mess and there was some stylish cinnamontography but this drama desperately needed levity. Even my girl Zhou Yutong couldn't save it from the weight of its own self-importance.

Xin Yunlai really is pretty great though and I will definitely be checking him out in The Glory 贵女 when that airs, despite my indifference to Chen Duling. (Justice for Mofang!)

Sweet/savory/spicy: leaning towards savory in my advancing middle age

Last thing I searched online: "does broiling disinfect bread"

My parents sent me homemade shaobing (made with duck fat, pork floss, and scallions!!) but I came home super late to find the box on my porch gnawed through on one corner. Some critter had gotten their snout and paws into one of the bags and munched on three of my precious shaobing! FURY.

Worry not- I quickly gave up the idea of attempting to disinfect the remaining unmunched breads. Avian flu is still out there wilding and the concept of public health doesn't exist here anymore.

Current obsession: sadly, nothing

Looking forward to: finishing construction work on my studio space, upcoming birthday weekend trip to see the Recasting the Past exhibition at the Met, conference travel in September, season 2 of Flourished Peony (I heard April?), PRISONER OF BEAUTY (is there news, Marie???)

Eames sat down on the edge of the narrow bed and leaned back on his hands to stay out of Arthur’s way. That the position showed off his broad shoulders and well-formed thighs to good effect was only a bonus, of course. He certainly didn’t crow internally when Arthur glanced over at him and missed a step. “Okay petal, but the really important question is what ‘family responsibilities’ are you expected to uphold?”

Arthur scowled at him. It was so fetching that Eames almost missed what he said.

“I’m supposed to get married.”

Eames paused to blink. “…I’m sorry, pet, what the hell did you just say?”

Hanging out with friends from work at the pub across the road, when the weather is good and there’s a decent group of us and everyone is laughing and telling stories

Successfully making somebody else laugh. Laughter in general is great, but knowing I’ve coaxed it out of someone is its own delight

The pets seeking affection from me - Jack coming to snuggle up against me or give me head-bumps (bonus if he’s purring), or Monty greeting me at the door when I go home to my parents’ by repeatedly pushing his whole body into my legs as he walks in circles and smacks his tail against everyone in radius (This counts as one thing, right? lol)

This new hot chocolate recipe I discovered recently - it’s just divine. Add in a lick of Bailey’s or (if I’m lucky) some Mozart’s chocolate liqueur and oh baby we’re in heaven!
