it isnt always, but if someone is self-sabotaging all their relationships, maybe look through that lense, and see if you can help.

catra was the bad gal when she did what she did, and jax also was the bad gal when she did what she did.
you can simultaneously acknowledge this and also acknowledge that they could have been saved from becoming the bad gal, or are a tragic example of people so hurt by the world that they cant fathom someone actually caring about them. tragedy is not an endorsement of behaviour
I just watched up to episode 8 of The Amazing Digital Circus, and I'm extremely compelled by Ragatha and her dynamic with Jax
Ragatha is a chronic people pleaser who is extremely preoccupied with how she's perceived by the people around her. It sounds like she's been pressured to be nice and pleasant her whole life, and she believes that if she doesn't keep up that perfect demeanor 24/7 then the people around her will leave
That being said, I think she kind of resents Jax because he is everything she's never allowed herself to be– he's rude, inconsiderate, and outwardly sadistic. His behavior breaks every rule she's ever set for herself, but he's not punished the way she always believed she would be if she were any of those things. We know that Ribbit, Kaufmo, and now Pomni still choose to be around Jax and consider him a friend despite the fact that he can be an asshole. Jax gets to be everything Ragatha has always kept herself from being, but his friends didn't immediately leave him
I think it hurts her to look at Jax because it can make her feel like all the time she spent locking away her more negative impulses was all worthless, actually. She could have expressed herself freely and still had friends, but if that's the case, then does that mean all the time she spent restricting herself (aka her whole life) was a waste of time? And on top of all that, her distaste for Jax's personality and for how he makes her feel does not exclude him from being one of the people that she needs to please
It's a really interesting contrast to show off this angle of a character like Ragatha
