True, but they are two different organs.

The penis is mean to administer sperm, and to urinate. Unless they have hypospadias,where they have two holes in the head, one for urination and one for ejaculation. The vagina has two different holes, one for urinating, and one for menstruation and for giving birth as I'm sure you know. There really isn't any close equivalent to the foreskin that the vagina has, other than the labia majora and minora, I assume. These are used for birth, which is why vaginal surgery is possibly detrimental for any kind of birth. The foreskin is for sexual and some protection, but it is completely possible to live without it, seeing as many men do.

The chance of death thing seems to be a little sketchy. Depending on who does it, where you are, and how much the doctor cares, yes I'm sure there is possibility for death, but very very low. I think it might be very carelessly done in order for the child to die, but I digress.
