any advice for a first time admin?
hi nonnie!
oh, let's see - i think there's so many tips that can be given for a first time admin. some things might change depending on if you're going to work alone and which platform, but i'll offer 5 tips for now to try and cover an overall/general considerations!
designate a schedule for admin task and duties - no matter how you choose to split up your tasks, i think choosing days for when you're going to dedicate time specifically for admin things will help in the long run. especially if you're planning to take part in your roleplay as a member with a muse too, this can help so that you don't feel like you're always on admin mode or that you have too much to handle if you're thinking about all the things you have to do as an admin and as a member.
stick to your rules and decisions - rules are made for a reason! if there's something you're not okay or comfortable with, it is okay for you to make rules specific to those things! people will always have something to say or suggest whether they're going to take part in the roleplay or not. it's best to stick to what you want because when/if things go awry or get sticky, you're going to be the one who has to deal with it at the end of the day. and if people drop a - i'd join if you changed this rule, don't let it sway you. rules are put in place for a reason!
why are you making the roleplay - it's a good idea to lay out the reasons of why you want to open the roleplay and admin to yourself. if you're passionate about the premise vs if you just want to see what it's like to be an admin vs if you want to create a space for people to join, etc. of course it can be a combination of all these things but i think when things get tough (whatever the circumstances or cause) remembering why you're doing it will help in the long run or with any decisions you make about keeping the roleplay open or closing it down.
research or try to stay up to date with kpop news - this is mostly from the standpoint of making sure you're aware enough of what's going on in the real world. you'll want to prepare and be ready to discern when certain faceclaims should or shouldn't be allowed based on any ongoing scandals or controversies. i don't think you need to be alert of everything going on, but when it comes to being an admin and wanting members to feel safe or comfortable, some due diligence will make a difference!
try to be neutral and unbiased as possible - though you're creating a space based on your rules and premise, it's important to remember that you should do your best to separate personal feelings from your admin role! it's only natural that we gravitate towards wanting to/giving exceptions to our friends if they're joining in support of you. however, this ties back to point number 3 in why you're making the space! hold everyone accountable to expectations including yourself.
all these points should be considered based on circumstances and context! although there isn't a correct way to admin, i think the wronger ways are much easier to pinpoint and avoid as long as you're being conscious and aware.
i hope that these points are helpful as you embark on your journey as an admin! if you'd like any more specific points or things to consider feel free to send in another ask! as for the community, for those who have adminning experience and want to offer up their own advice please feel free to send your thoughts in too!
