oh, let's see - i think there's so many tips that can be given for a first time admin. some things might change depending on if you're going to work alone and which platform, but i'll offer 5 tips for now to try and cover an overall/general considerations!

hello nonnie! thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and encouragement as you work towards opening your own roleplay! i think it's always nice to hear what other admins might be thinking since it's really easy to feel alone in what we're feeling or worrying about, especially if you're working on things alone!

thank you for chiming in, nonnie! the tumblr side of krp has been struggling for a little while so i understand your vote for it!

luckily i was able to see your question before tumblr ate it. i'm diving into a few different points down below. if you want to discuss or get perspective on anything specific, feel free to send in another ask!

when it comes to choosing a platform, my first rule of thumb is to choose what you like best and how/if it will help you execute the idea you have in mind.

from a technical standpoint, you can base it on how much admin work you have time for or can manage. this is considering advertisement on tumblr and general upkeep maintaining the blog (queuing ads, updating pages, masterlist, posting acceptances, answering questions, etc). if you're on mewe, then you kind of have two platforms you have to keep track of where you have the things on tumblr's side, and then the upkeep on mewe side (creating groups, monitoring chats, inviting members to groups, sending out welcome messages, answering messages, etc).

if tasks don't bother you, then i would consider the organizational structure and what might bother you about the platforms. tumblr makes it really easy to keep everything in one place. however, mewe makes it really easy for there to be a specific space for designated needs. a few others things to think about are:

tumblr has a more convenient follow/unfollow feature, whereas mewe you're likely to have to go through the extra steps of unfollowing and removing them from groups.

tumblr doesn't have emojis, mewe posts does.

writing on tumblr is public, writing can be done privately on mewe.

tumblr doesn't have group chats, mewe has features for multiple versions of a chat.

and if you really don't have a preference over platform, then i would say take a look at the land and see what rps are already available on what platforms. if there's something similar you're looking to make on one, then there might be a group of writers waiting for something to open on the other.

lastly, i think it just depends on if you want to see sns interaction. the culture around sns interaction is a little different across tumblr and mewe. that ties hand in hand with what's allowed with activity. if you want sns as an option for a semi-lit space, then it would make sense to host on mewe over tumblr. but if you prefer to see less sns, then tumblr might fit closer to what you have in mind (or you just remove the sns aspect in your rules).

thanks for letting me find out and you know what? you're so right- communication is key. but there's only so much you can do if the other person doesn't engage.

so, i do think you have more options than you might feel right now. it just depends on what you want at the end of the day and being okay with certain things not being in your control depending on what you choose. i'm also interpreting that by lazy, you mean they don't really want to do more admin work than necessary.

if this rp is like your child and you want to continue running it with your partner, then i say you should have that conversation with them even if you don't want to. being on the same page with your co-admin is the most important thing so that your own commitment doesn't die and then the whole experience is ruined for you. maybe you guys need to restructure roles? if they don't really care to build the rp to its potential or don't really want to put effort into the vision you have in mind (and you know they'll be okay with what you want to do) then maybe they should be a moderator instead of an admin. that clear distinction can help in giving you a little more freedom to do what you want with the roleplay's plot. if you guys don't already do it, having clear separation in duties can help remove that feeling that they're lazy or not doing anything especially if they just want to have a hand in simpler admin things like upkeep (if it wasn't obvious this is something i think is crucial to have a successful co-admin experience running a roleplay with someone else).

if the plot is something that can be easily worked into your roleplay, you can bring up the idea of a revamp to implement that plot. and then again, touch base on admin duties and expectations.

there is also the option to close the roleplay and then open up a new one by yourself so that you can run the premise how you want. and i'd say don't wear yourself down with wondering whether you can run it alone or not. solo adminning will always kind of feel like toughing it out, but a big part of it would also just be scaling back and doing what's manageable for you. and if you absolutely don't want to run it with your same partner or alone, then finding someone new who will share your view and commitment in running an rp would be your next best shot.
