Idea for a story

Well, my biggest ongoing multichapter (The Map of Murder and Ambition) will feature a lot about Pete that I'm excited to write about. All three of the boys will get to shine, but there are aspects about Pete that are... hehe. Sorry for being vague but I wanna properly write it in my fic first. T_T I'm facing the biggest writer's block for this fic, wow. Probably because it's historical, but also a big casefic so I wanna get it right. I'm still stuck in the planning stage cause I keep making changes huhu. This is why multichapter is my enormous weakness because I get so... perfectionistic about it. A more lighthearted idea I have in store is a PeterxSkinny one-shot huahuahauhauhau. Comedic, slice of life, and just the two of them being emotional idiots. Sprinkled with "why the hell is this guy hot??" vibes. And as always with me, most probably a light casefic haha.

Unpopular opinion

I thought long and hard about this. Some might say that Peter's weakness is his "emotional"-ness or his "cowardly" thing, complaining about being dragged to cases, etc. But I found that he's just being... normal and expressive about being asked to risk his life and playing with danger, lol. A real "red flag" with Peter I'd say is when he makes fun of J's weight. And again, this is questionable characterisation, because in Robert Arthur's original writing... the only people who made fun of J's weight were Skinny and the villains. Even Skinny only resorted to calling J "Fatso", which, imo, was jabbing J with his "Baby Fatso" TV persona rather than actually making fun of his weight. So the message was clear: "only the bad guys body-shame". But other authors later on would include both Peter and Bob in this category (Bob is lesser). There's one scene in Mystery of the Sinister Scarecrow (1979) by MV Carey that I really dislike:

Like--? What the hell, Pete? "He could use the exercise"? This is mean and out of character for him. And Jupiter grimaced? He obviously felt bad about this. And another one, just one book later, in Secret of the Shark Reef (1979) by William Arden:

?? What the f--?? Pete, your best friend was already green from feeling nauseous and you said that? Thankfully in this book, Pete redeemed himself because later on when P & J were operating a speedboat alone, there was a moment where Pete was really sweet when he noticed that J was very nauseous, so P distracted J by talking about something else. And J later on also got back at Pete when he teased him about something, so... they're even in this case. So yeah, this is a Peter characterisation that I don't enjoy. Is it realistic though? Sadly, maybe. Peter's an athlete. He might say these things out of ignorance because in his perspective, being sporty and "getting in shape" was easy. Coupled with how this was in the 60s-70s where he could get away with saying these things more easily, and J would be expected to just "accept it". But still. If I were to take this characterisation of Peter in my ficverse, I would include this as something that J would explode about, after holding in what he felt for so long (because the comments matter! and J is a human with feelings!). And then P would realise how immature and cruel he was. For now though, I'll stick with Robert Arthur's canon. If anything, in my ficverse currently (especially JuPeter ones) it's J who sometimes feels insecure about his body, but P thinks he's damn cute in whatever shapes and sizes. He absolutely adores J's mochi cheeks and soft belly, and if there's any change that J wants to do to his body, P would be there to support him, and encourage that J is doing it for himself and his own goals (e.g. health related, or police-training related) and not for judgemental people.

Say it together, 1... 2... JUPETER!!!! XD Do i need to say anything more ahhahaha. PeterxSkinny is also growing on me HAHA thanks to some fics i've read. They're so messy. And in the books, Peter is always the most emotional one when it comes to Skinny. I also find PeterxKelly really cute. Though I have my own interpretation, cause I don't like how Kelly in the Crimebusters novels is depicted as a typical shallow popular mean girl kinda character (and tbh I don't enjoy a lot of the Crimebusters characterisations so I modified a lot of them in my ficverse). My Kelly is strong-headed, opinionated, commanding (cheer captain after all), loyal, sincere, cheerful, girls' girl, sensitive but forgives easily. And she's a dear friend to all three of the boys. In my ficverse, even when Kelly is Peter's ex, their breakup is not because either of them was the villain. Just that... their time is up.
