“Crew photo of T26E3 # 40 from Company E, 33rd Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Division, commanded by Sgt. Nicholas Mashlonik. Left to right: Cpl. Carl D. Gormick, gunner (1918-1967); Sgt. Mashlonik, commander (1919-1985); PFC Ralph Ruiz, loader (1920-1992); PFC Walter J. Bozenko, assistant driver (1919-1971); T/5 Ernest E. Cade, driver (1916-1979). Bozenko died in May 1971 as a New York City firefighter while battling a nighttime blaze in an apartment house after an arsonist set the building alight. At age fifty, Bozenko left behind a wife and teenage son. More than 800 mourners attended his funeral. Visit etohistory.com and download wartime documents related to the 3rd Armored Division.”
