Imagine, out of nowhere, there's a massive incident where one of the best prosecutors in the district is brutally slaughtered in an elevator. Imagine that YOU'RE the one assigned to investigate the scene, and while you didn't really like the guy, you STILL KNEW HIM; YOU STILL INTERACTED WITH HIM OFTEN. Imagine that investigating this incident traumatized you even more than you already are, to the point that you can't even look at a picture of that prosecutor without feeling a little sick. Imagine witnessing the change in the prosecutor's office as everyone suddenly becomes far more paranoid and aggressive.

Imagine the defense attorney you had started kindling a friendship with before all this suddenly changes in the wake of this incident and starts avoiding you. Imagine this defense attorney becomes a prosecutor with no warning and still won't even look you in the face. Imagine fifteen years passing by, slowly watching as the kind person you used to know is replaced by someone selfish and hypervigilant that you can't even recognize anymore.

Imagine that right before that old incident is about to go cold forever, the person you used to know is unveiled as the culprit behind it all. Imagine not being as surprised as you wish you were. Deep down, you always knew, you just didn't want to accept it.

Imagine in the MIDDLE OF ALL THIS SHIT going on you ALSO have to handle the rise and fall of the Yatagarasu. The woman who you thought you could trust, suddenly dead, and also revealed as a member of the very smuggling ring you were trying to dismantle. Your coworker who you bonded with over your mutual guilt and sense of duty, the same one who wanted the Yatagarasu to be created so bad in the first place, being the one who killed her. That same coworker nearly shooting two innocent kids just to give himself the chance to run away like a coward, leaving his own daughter behind.

And then like seven years later, you find the fucker again and he's JOINED THE SMUGGLING RING YOU BOTH SWORE TO DESTROY. AND he tries to take his own daughter hostage whilst in a fit of paranoia. What the fuck.

Manfred outright says that people (GROWN ASS PEOPLE) don't USUALLY die from his taser, implying that it is at least possible for him to kill living things with his taser. And while he could just be bluffing for intimidation reasons, it's also important to note that he's able to knock both Maya and Phoenix completely unconscious for at least several minutes with a single shock of that taser.

Fun fact! From all the research I could find, tasers are REALLY not meant to do that. They're not meant to be strong enough to completely knock people out, cause that's around where permanent damages become a major risk. They're just meant to temporarily stun someone. For Manfred to have a taser that is strong enough to reliably force a grown ass man into unconsciousness is 1) absolutely fucking deranged, and 2) the exact reason why he would never be able to use it for “retraining” Polly.

If that taser is capable of knocking out the average person with one shock, then using it on an animal that is like a tiny fucking fraction of the size of a person would almost certainly kill it, and if it didn't, it would definitely leave that parrot barely alive and with lifelong consequences.
