it occurs to me that the way i depict the defernull spamtenna dynamic is opposite to how popular fanon depicts them. which is to say i think dfn!tenna is a lot more desperate and messy, while dfn!spamton is callous and borderline malicious in how little he cares about anything outside of his own self-image.

obviously this is not one to one. for starters i think by end of c3 the both of them have debilitating depressions that manifests differently for each one. dfn!tenna still is numb and apathetic, but after c3 he's starting to feel more again and is shakily recovering. dfn!spamton i straight up characterize as a goddamn willful villain by the time c2 starts but he's not ontologically evil or anything -- just blinded by the philosophy that nothing is his fault because of predetermination, but he can still manipulate the narrative if he just has an in. he thinks he has power in powerlessness specifically. that idea gets shattered after meeting kris and co and afterwards dfn!spamton, to me, is experiencing what it's like to take rehab seriously for the first time. the water of realization is ice cold and he hasn't taken a shower in decades

i have not elaborated on dfn!tenna because most of my works in defernull have been exclusively tenna-focused. i will talk about tenna again unprompted and always
