There was once a boy. His name has been worn away by the merciless sands of time, though his story is one that has only recently come to its conclusion. You may have known someone just like him.
He was a stellar student and an exemplar of a human being. According to the newspapers, those were the only parts of his life that truly mattered. His name was always listed among the honor roll, and he was an active participant in many of his school's clubs. The fate that befell him had been unexpected by all of his peers. They all said it was a worthy ending for someone like him, but none of them knew who he wished to become. The words were hollow. They were strangers, but reveled in the fact that they had shared a meager connection. None of them had ever acted on it.
For while his accomplishments were displayed to the world, his wounds were buried in the empty coffin that was laid into the ground. The years spent sobbing and alone were brushed under the rug as inconsequential aspects of his life. The brief few seconds where he had run back into the flaming school to rescue the peers that had always ignored him were deemed his defining moments.
And yet, it was those moments where he had hurt that sparked his burst of adrenaline. It was what made him sacrifice himself in order to save the lives of the others. He knew how much it hurt to be alone, and didn't want the friends of his peers to share that pain. As smoke filled his lungs, he told himself that they didn't deserve it. As a beam started to fall down upon him and the classmate he was helping, he told himself that it wasn't right. And as the became came crashing down and he pushed that girl out of the way, he knew that he had finally touched the hearts of his classmates.
There was once a boy. His life may have come to an end, but his story still touches the lives of those that he had once known. As his empty coffin was lowered into the ground and the sobs of the mourners pierced the silence, a newly created god promised to himself that he would protect those were hurting. He would protect those who were alone. He would ease the pain of those who were hurting. He would give them the courage to reach out towards others. He would treasure the friendships that were made.
His name is Syndesi, and he will always be there for you.
