Just as a reminder: THESE ARE NOT CANON as they are child units and thus open to other marriage supports (Sylvain x Dorothea, Bernadetta x Yuri, Linhardt x Marianne, etc.). This is all for fun.
I may even revise these along with my old ones later if I decide on a consistent inheritance method. So these designs are not 100% canon.
(You can see how my style keeps changing the longer I do this lol)

Hyde Park was Ingridâs favourite part of London. Perhaps the only thing she liked about the city. Compared to her familyâs estate and the dense woods that surrounded it, London was teeming with people.
And people were teeming with opinions on just how a lady should carry herself. At least at home she only ever had to face her parents and their restrictions, but here with the Ton? Every single one of them, despite only seeing her for a few months during their annual migration back to the city, had something to say about how she didnât wear her hair right or that her strides were too long or that she always smelled of horse.
If she had her way, sheâd stay put in the estate and just spend her days riding and hunting.Â
But since she didnâtâŚshe preferred to spend her days in Hyde Park if possible. The sizeable property was filled with greeneryâflowering trees, pudgy shrubbery, vivid blooms of all shapes and sizes. Birds chirped overhead, squirrels chattered from their nooks, and if Ingrid closed her eyes and took a deep breath, she could pretend she was home.
âMind if we take a detour?â
Or, at least she could when Sylvain wasnât with her. Sighing, Ingrid opened her eyes and followed her companionâs fingerpoint to where the white swans glided languidly on the lake in the distance.
âTheyâve returned.â She relaxed. It had been some time since sheâd last spotted the swans in the park. Ingrid smiled before nodding. âI want to see them too.â
âSee them or hunt them?â Sylvain teased, turning slightly so they could take a different path through the gardens.Â
Ingrid wrinkled her nose. Despite how well-dressed he was or charming he behaved in front of others, it was impossible to forget that this was her childhood friend. This was the boy she used to race through the fields with, who she used to beat during sword practice, who tended to her scraped knees whenever she played too rough. The boy who turned into a man who still couldnât stop teasing her.
And now, with both of them of age, they were currently strolling arm-in-arm as she pretended to court him.
As a child, she never could have seen this coming.Â
âSylvain,â she growled, discreetly pinching his arm.Â
He winced. âDid your nails get sharper?â
âNo, just my grip.â Ingrid rolled her eyes. It seemed the saying was wrong: the dress didnât make the man. Despite his buttoned up shirt and properly knotted tie, Sylvain was as immature as he had ever been.Â
Taking a deep breath, she subtly scanned their surroundings. Fortunately, their area was clear; most were probably preparing for the next ball of the season. A peek over her shoulder confirmed that Leonie, her guard and chaperone, was also just far enough to observe but not hear. It was the perfect time to ask the question that had been lingering on her tongueÂ
âWhy are we still doing this?â Ingrid asked, trying to school her expression into something more neutral.Â
Sylvain raised a brow. âYou love walking in the park.â
âSylvain.â Ingrid resisted the urge to shove him into the lake they were slowly circling. âBe serious for once.â
âYou wound me.â With his free hand, he clutched his heart. âIâm always serious with you.â
Ingrid shot him a withering look.
âWhat?â Sylvain pouted. After a few minutes, he caved and rubbed his neck. âFine. What did you want to discuss?â
Doubtful, she asked again, âHow long do you intend to carry this out? ThisâŚ,â she lowered her voice, âfake courtship.â
He gasped melodramatically. âAre you saying this isnât real to you? Thatâs twice now youâve attacked me.â
âAnd Iâll attack you again if you keep this up.â Ingrid raised her fist to punch his shoulder before thinking better of it. Instead, she discreetly crushed his foot with her heel. âThe matter has been drawn out for nearly a month now. Weâve danced, taken walks, visited various shopsâsurely that is enough to keep the suitors at bay without us needing daily meetings.â
âI donât agree.â Sylvain covered her hand, curled up around his arm as it was, with his own. His voice took on a husky tone, sending a shiver up her spine. âYouâre far too handsome. The second I disappear, I know someone will swoop in.â
âIs that why you filled up my entire dance card?â Ingrid asked, unable to keep herself from scowling. âWe could have just avoided dancing entirely instead.â
âWhat a waste that would be.â Sylvain smirked. âI like dancing with you. Didnât you?â
âIt wasnât badâŚâ Ingrid bit her cheek. To be honest, her waist still burned from where he had touched her, his grip imprinted on her skin. And from the way his eyes darkened right now, it was almost as though he knew exactly what she was thinking of, what she was feeling, what she was remembering.
It was all too easy to think of him as her childhood friend except for when it wasnât, except for the times he showed just how much heâd grown and changed the past few years. He had always been sly, but now that he was using that with her instead of escaping his dutiesâŚIngrid didnât know what to think.Â
All she knew was how to dodge and pivot. âSurely by now theyâve found other girls to chase. The season is half-over as it is.â It was easier to talk when her eyes didnât meet his, so she stared at the swans they were approaching. âMy father will have a hard time marrying me off and your problem must be solved by now.â
Sylvainâs lips quirked. âWhat makes you say that?â
âWith your reputation, it seemed impossible.â Ingrid snorted, remembering just how much of the rumour mill his escapades had occupied until now. âHowever, you have been consistent and proper with me for a month, thereâs no new scandals, and people have been speculating that youâve changedâŚyour image has cleaned up.â When his chin lifted smugly, she added, âA little.â
The problem with Sylvainâs ego was that it needed constant humbling.
âThatâs actually hurtful to hear,â Sylvain grumbled. âJust a little?â
âThe truth often is,â Ingrid replied tartly. âWe canât work miracles.â
He pouted as he leaned against her. âAre you trying to get rid of me?â
His weight was heavy but familiar and she shook her head with a laugh. âI doubt I ever can, weâve known each other too long.â
âNot long enough yet.â When she frowned, Sylvain grinned. âI think forever has a nice ring to it.â
âIt has the same ring as a threat.â Ingrid rolled her eyes before returning to her original topic. âRegardless, Iâll know you even if Iâm not courting you.â
âOne-track mind as usual,â Sylvain commented affectionately. He tapped his chin for a moment, pondering something, before nodding. âI see your point. We have been courting for a while.â
There was a long silence and Ingrid poked his arm. âAnd?â
By now, they had almost reached the swans. Near the bank, a weeping willow stood, its ancient branches looking like rain as they swept the earth. Distracted as they walked under it, she almost didnât hear Sylvain add, âAnd as much as I would like to go to the next step, Iâm not sure youâre ready for it.â
Her hand slipped out of his arm as she stood stockstill. Startled, she repeated, âNext step?â
Sylvain only gave her a smile in response.Â
Her mind whirled, trying to piece together just what that could mean. He couldnât possibly intend to carry this through to marriage, could he? Even Sylvain wouldnât go that far for an act. Then, did he mean just continuing the courtship? Or did he want a public rejection?
Ingrid licked her lips, picking the safest of the options. âYou intend to keep this up the entire season?â
âWell, while I wouldnât mind that, thatâs not what I meant.â Sylvain stood in front of her now and it was impossible to tear her eyes away from his. Leonie was nearby but hidden in the willow as they were, it felt like they were the only two people there. âDo you remember the reason I proposed this courtship?â
She remembered him in her waiting room a month ago, his expression antsy as he suggested their fake relationship. Remembered the way he had relaxed when sheâd finally agreed. Remembered the way he had almost taken her hand immediately then. âToâŚbecome a serious candidate as a suitor?â
âFor who?â
He hadnât mentioned anyone that day, or any day after. Actually, if she thought about it, Ingrid couldnât recall him ever mentioning anyone who had caught his eye for months now. There had to be someoneâthis couldnât just be because he was the heir, because he was expected to marry. In all the years sheâd known him, heâd never changed his behaviour to match his fatherâs wants. âForâŚâ
Sylvian lifted her hand, planting a chaste kiss on the back as he peered up. âFor?â
Flustered, she tried to yank her hand free but his grip was too tight. âSylvain?â
âWe both know just how bad my reputation is. It is all well-earned.â Sylvain tightened his grip on her hand, his other reaching forward to tilt her chin, forcing her to keep her focus on his face. âEven if I regret it. Even without it, though, you have never seen me as anything other than a troublesome childhood friend.â
Her lips moved but no sound came out.
His expression softened. âFor you to take me seriouslyâŚI had to at least do this much for you to see me as someone new. Someone who you canât look away from..â Sylvain leaned closer, his lips on the shell of her ear as he whispered, âDo you think itâs working?â
Ingridâs hands slapped her ears, covering them, and Sylvain laughed as he danced away and out of reach of retaliation.Â
âThatâs my cue to leave.â Sylvain looked far too satisfied, a cat that caught the canary, and he tipped his hat. âUntil next time.â
Before she could growl at him, before she could grab him by the collar and force him to explain just when had this started, how it had started, what had started, Sylvain left. Not that it mattered, Ingrid still couldnât move from where she stood, her ear burning. Had he really meant all of that?Â
Did she want him too?
Ingrid buried her face in her hands. Next time, heâd said, and gods above, she couldnât deny the curl of anticipation flooding her at the thought.Â
