Every once and awhile you come across a refreshing piece of music that leaves you asking what does this sound like? Have I heard this before? And then you realize, you haven’t and it is something completely new and exciting for music. Allow Stereo Therapy to introduce you to Braidedveins, the band includes members Jono Diener from the Swellers on drums, Stephen Wisniewski of Empty Orchstra on Vocals and also features members of Kid Brother Collective and other Flint bands. We can all either be bummed out about the Swellers breakup, or we can all get excited that Braidedveins will get the exposure they deserve. The album Future/Forever opens with a track “Watch Carefully” a track that I believe sets the tone for the entire album. The drums on the opening track prepare you for the chaos that is about to ensue and sink in your ears.
This album could easily be the go to album for that drive on the highway, that long run or that bad day you had and you’re looking for something to get our your frustration. One of the standout tracks “The Nature Cruise Of The Century!” instantly grabs your attention and makes you hit the repeat button. This song in particular really allows you to want to air punch in the best possible way just for the hell of it. This album with each track presented is fun, energetic, and something completely needed in music right now. Midwest music will always be loud, energetic, and in your face and Braidedveins definitely fits the mold, but also adds a refreshing twist to the Midwest scene. The guitars on this album stand toe to toe with the vocals and in an intricate way create this overall masterpiece that is sure to become a staple in basements throughout the Midwest.
Bottom line: Braidedveins is a fresh slice in the ever-changing music scene. Just when you thought you have heard it all, or couldn’t find something new, Braided Veins gives you that something extra you needed. It is exciting to hear a band like Braided Veins release an album like this in a time when either you get bored or you don’t even bother with an album because it all sounds the same. When I hear Future/Forever I am transported to a time when back in the day the 16 year old me would be in a packed basement with strangers hearing this chaotic and cohesive music and feel like I have the hidden gem that others are looking for.
