enneagram sx7 / sp9
sx5 and sx7
sx5 and sx7 are extremely similar. unlikely in couples, usually they're siblings or best friends considering commitment between these two is very unlikely and would take years.
they have a tendency to feed each other's coping mechanisms, both extremely idealistic, one (sx7) can't handle the negativity in the world so they constantly escape through fantasies of great ideas and businesses and plans, but chasing the next big thing ends up isolating them + paralyzed by shame and fear they end up doing none of those things which feeds their shame further and the cycle never ends. "gluttony becomes a desire for more pleasure through intellectual seduction aimed at satisfying idealizations and dreams and not instinctual needs". they willingly choose to remain oblivious to problems, which their crippling self awareness isn't really compatible with, so the shame runs deep. committing to one single thing means brutal destruction of infinite possibilities they already perfected in their mind. they crave the same soul merging connection as sx5, but when consistency and maturity is expected of them, they panic and run away and yet again choose to remain in the fantasy of a possibility rather than the reality of the relationship itself. they treat "reality checks" as background noise, refusing to let anybody ruin the happy narrative in their head. slightly childish, petty, selfish but they don't realize it, and they expect the most out of people and don't want to admit that they're easily disappointed, but they know they are, so they just isolate themselves instead. finding a special person is too severely important to them, so they try to create a more shallow mask to hide that fact.
now on to the sx5 (me!)
sx5, on the other hand, can’t handle the unpredictability of the world, so they retreat inward and build an internal universe that feels safer than reality. avarice becomes a refusal to spend the self. they hoard their time, emotions, energy, knowledge, even affection, convinced that once given away they’ll never get them back. unlike sx7, who multiplies possibilities, sx5 narrows everything down to a single obsession they can understand completely. they don’t idealize endless futures so much as a single perfect connection, one person or idea worthy of dismantling the walls they’ve spent years building. they often believe that if someone truly understood them, intimacy would happen almost effortlessly, so they wait for recognition instead of risking ordinary vulnerability. reality is rarely rejected outright; it’s held at a distance until it feels safe enough to approach. where sx7 avoids disappointment by constantly moving toward the next possibility, sx5 avoids it by never fully entering the game in the first place. both end up preferring potential over reality: sx7 because reality feels limiting, sx5 because reality demands exposure. one escapes through expansion, the other through withdrawal, yet both can spend years falling in love with imagined futures while their actual lives remain suspended.
