☆——» Suspicions ever present, secreted paranoia hinted only through the glances repeatedly made at his rearview && side mirrors, but Adrian Toomes knew better than to completely ignore his heightened intuition when something felt off. Those gut instincts had kept him not only alive within the ranks of the criminal underworld && occasional over-world, but paved the way toward working contingencies that enabled him one of the shortest sentences of jail time for the select few crimes he had been found guilty of.
The felonious weapons-dealer knew he was not only being closely watched lately, but being tailed as he drove through the boroughs of New York. He can’t go to work, his new warehouse, when he feels like this. && try as he might to loose the car that had been following him around for over an hour, it didn’t seem like they would be an easy flea to shake off his back.
A text is sent off to his Engineer when he finds a curbside to park his Jaguar, alerting Mason to the assumed problem with their secreted coding system [stopping 4 cappuccino. Need a fix?] Innocent enough of a message if viewed from the outside, but so were all of his letters && phone calls from jail. His new cellphone was always being tracked by at least one trustworthy party, but who knew if someone new was trying to listen in now. It wouldn’t take long for security cameras to get hacked, even traffic signals later, if such a need became necessary.
Contingencies...mental gears always spinning, churning plans, plotting for the future of business && life...
It’s a short walk to the nearest coffee joint, && he’s lucky enough to find a small crowd to blend into. But Adrian is more interested in watching where that other car parked, who might be inside it than getting a quick caffeine buzz. Regardless, he keeps up his usual ‘I’m just a regular Joe’ appearance && casual demeanor. Adrian places his coffee order, loitering with the cup for a few extra minutes ;; checking out all the exits && paths of least resistance while he checks his phone, acts busy. It’s about five minutes before he makes a move to seem like he’s going for the restroom, but instead exits out of the Employee’s Only door in a hurry when he’s certain he can get away without being caught by anyone.
Out the back, through the alley, he walks between businesses && crosses in heavier foot-traffic until he can circle ‘round the block to where the car that had been tailing him was parked. Driver was gone, but not for long. Adrian has just enough time to commit to memory the license plate && walk along the passenger side when he connects eyes with the blonde-haired woman walking toward the vehicle. Soon speaking to her as easily as one would to a close friend && smiling just as warmly, though his eyes remain cold, intensely trained on her. Unblinking with the hidden malice, suspicions he felt. Who the hell was this woman?
❝ It’s always those little hole-in-the-wall joints that have the best food n’ drink, don’tcha think? ❞
He takes a sip from his coffee while his other hand slides into a pocket. Holding onto the concealed switchblade there out of habit. Perhaps he could puncture one of her tires if his instincts were correct in labeling her as a threat. How to get away with that without being noticed was the tricky part.
❝ You, ah, not from around here? You’re lookin’ a little... lost. Everything okay, Miss? ❞
