There is no exclamatory potential in swive, which is all sibilant and velvety v sounding. You cannot stand in the pouring rain, your open briefcase spilling classified documents into a puddle, suddenly shit on by a bird, and yell, "Swive!" with any satisfaction. By way of contrast, fuck is admirably expletive and well up to the task of expressing one's existential frustration. It beats against the barrier at the outer limits of language; it beats and beats, and crushes and smashes with the rage of something not fitting-with bruised and bloody hands, so to speak. Where expletive is all that works-the only means of expressing an overwhelming intensity of feeling-that rage is all the greater because one has found the end of language and can go no further. Profanity is no parochial gesture, then. It strikes a complaint against the human condition.

So... I've been looking at the 'on this day' feature on Facebook and for the past couple of days back in 2012 I kept using the word 'swive'. Having matured a little in the last four years I had to look it up. Goddamn I hate how embarrassing I am.
