Hi! My name is Jessica and im a SCAD sequential student. I just love your art style so much. I was wondering how you got into the industry and if you have any tips for anyone trying to get in? Thanks!
This is probably not gonna be the answer you’re looking for exactly, but I’m technically not in the industry quite yet since I currently freelance all over the place for professional work rather then having a pin downed job position at the moment. Also hello fellow SCAD person! :3
Anything I’ve done per say like the video work for Mystery Skulls, smaller animations and design/concept work has been after college on large projects with people I’ve worked with in the past from school/online that are very good friends of mine I’ve met over time. But everything I’ve done so far even as a freelancer has helped in building up my portfolio and networking contacts when I’m ready to take that next big step in pursuing a full time position. And it’s never too late to start while at college, especially with getting onto other people’s projects or getting people onto your projects if you want to be a leader or a contributor.
Make sure you’re always trying to find something to work on. Personal projects or group projects, keep yourself busy in a healthy way so that you can start making work that you’re not only proud of, but that others can view and share so that more people can start noticing your work more often. And definitely have a good attitude about the individuals you meet and want to work with. No one likes a stick in the mud, no matter how talented they might be and you’re far less likely to get hired onto a project or job position because of a bad attitude.
Hope that somewhat helps!
