F - What’s the longest you’ve ever been in a fandom

Uh… Shite. Probably the Newsies fandom was the longest? I hung out there from sixth to about eleventh grade, so… counting a bit of a getting-in and a getting-out period on either side, roughly six years there. I was on about six different RP boards and chatting with like twenty people and writing with them during that time. Newsies was the most active at any rate; I haven’t joined RP boards or found a group of people like that in any of the fandoms I’ve been in before or since. FUN FACT that fandom also introduced me to slash as an alright thing!

Though if you mean fandom-as-a-thing-I-passively-dig-around-in, then Harry Potter is the winner, as I’ve been looking for fan fiction for that since I was ten. ALMOST ELEVEN YEARS STRONG, WOO YEAH.

U - If you mostly have heteroships, do you have any homoships

After some serious contemplation I realize I have mostly homoships. Bit awkward.

After a bit more serious contemplation, I’ve found some heteroships:

Sarah/Jareth, Elizabeth/Darcy, SHANG/MULAN, Tarzan/Jane, Rapunzel, Eugene, Beauty/Beast, Ron/Hermione, Molly Weasley/Arthur Weasley, EDI/Joker, Ellie/Isaac (pre-DS3), Ginny/Draco, Alanna/George, Daine/Numair, Sheriff Stilinski/Melissa McCall, Boyd/Erica, Scott/Allison/Isaac, Lydia/Jackson, Scott/Allison, Sherlock/Joan, and Mary/John/Sherlock. James/Jesse gets the biggest honorable mention ever, because HOW CAN YOU NOT????

But me an shipping is a… complicated thing for me to explain. Most of the time I don’t do it actively, as I… tend to ship things quietly, to myself, and not seek out things with my ships? I just… If I look for fic for a ship I tend to be looking for a specific thing, just something fun, or something to exercise a specific feel. I don’t actively ship most things, really, and by that I mean I’m usually fine to go with whatever the canon says and not argue THIS means THIS for a ship. If that makes sense.

The exceptions to that are probably: Sarah/Jareth, Axel/Roxas, Sora/Riku, Stiles/Derek, John/Sherlock. Though those might be considered by others to be my OTPs. I dunno. THIS IS A SEPARATE POST, methinks, gomene.

C - A pairing you have never liked and probably never will

Fucking hellballs.

Ruby/Sam and Anna/Dean, from Supernatural. Can’t do it, sorry, was potentially on board for Ruby/Sam when Ruby was blond, but then Genvieve came in and it got weIRD and nope.

The less I say about Anna/Dean the better. Trust me.

And Jennifer/Derek from Teen Wolf, but in quite a different way from either of the other two. It’s involved in theories of magic, magical consent, baiting, deliberation, and the psychology of revenge on the levels of the show writers/directors, the characters, and the fandom. ..Nyeh.

K - How do you feel about the other people in your current fandom

Well as those are the three I’m currently reading fic for, let’s say those are it as far as me and active, conscious involvement goes.

Sherlockians -> I don’t even know what’s going on right now, as I’ve been offline and catching up on alone time since Christmas. But the thing is, Anderson’s not on my Nice List just because he pulled a self-insert; that was done out of guilt, Lestrade hit that on the nose, and while I’m grateful for the influx of accurate gifs, he’s not going to be a favorite. And if that’s really the fandom mentality right now, I’m on the disagreeing side of the fence. I’ve been lucky to avoid the majority of Sherlockian wank, but it’s out there and it’s in force. I basically find what I like and ignore the rest, unless it makes my brain hurt.

Merlin -> i HAVE NO IDEA WHAT’S GOING ON BUT BASICALLY EVERY FIC I READ IS MADE OF MAGICAL KITTENS AND THAT’S ALL THAT MATTERS??????????????????

I’ve found people I like - authors, artists, essayists, cool nips of the lounging-about-attractively variety - and I’ve run into people that I dislike. My bone of contention with the Teen Wolf fandom is the social justice elements and the level of entitlement present in the fan base, and how those have manifested in ways that go towards exponentially restoring my faith in humanity as well as ways that make me wish I did not exist. Some of the most creative, thoughtful, intelligent, mind-blowingly amazing-in-general people I’ve ever encountered have come from the Teen Wolf fandom. I’ve also encountered levels of selective ignorance and staggering hypocrisy in those ranks.

I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

Tumblr’s more changed my ability to view fandoms and the people in them, as well as the celebrities that create the initial thing, at all. Particularly in regards to social justice, civil rights, and opinion sharing. Above all, tumblr has taught me that context is the most important aspect in all things; and that it is also incredibly selective.

If I had to mention any fandoms, though, I would say it’s made me dislike the Teen Wolf fandom, the Sherlock fandom, the Supernatural fandom - and that’s an impressive feat, as I wasn’t fond of them initially - and the Dr. Who fandom. Which is interesting, as tumblr’s what got me into Teen Wolf and what fed my love of Sherlock.

Each fandom has a collective personality and individual personalities. The individual personalities within each, well… for the most part, it’s what keeps me in Teen Wolf, because even when I disagree with something someone says, I can still see the merits in their argument and keep going. Mostly. But on a collective level and an individual level, I’ve given up on Supernatural almost exclusively, and while I want to watch Dr. Who, that’s a serious Undertaking of Patrician proportions that has as many pros as cons at this point, and I am without the benefit of a Drumknott.

And lets just not say anything more than “DC/Marvel” before we move on.

N - Your favorite fanfiction or fanauthor

oh bALLS uh… Well. Off the top of my head it’s like this:

Hit up The Fedora Verse by itsxandy if you’ve ever had a passing interest in anything Young Justice or badass and well done. I’m behind on it currently but hOLY SWEET DAMN can we say this is the one person responsible for keeping me in the Young Justice fandom? And for getting me into Motorcity. Really I owe itsxandy a lot a lot a lot and she’s great as magical kittens so go.

Tiny Houses by ohmyjetsabel is going to be my only mpreg fic rec ever. In addition, it goes far and beyond that, and hits on quite a LOT of the subtleties of family and mistakes and what it means to really be connected to someone irreparably. Basically it’s excellent and will cause you harm. It’s kind of my Neverwhere, currently.

I can’t pick any one thing from halffizzbin, so you should just go look at her AO3 archive and spend a week exploding all over everything she’s ever done. Go.

Saucery is one of the first writers I found for Teen Wolf and have I looked back since? No. NO I HAVE NOT. I NEVER WILL. She’s the first person to ever get me to break my don’t-be-a-creeper rule and follow from one platform to another; pROBABLYTHE BEST THING I COULD HAVE DONE?? She’s saucefactory on tumblr and she’s hilarious and brilliant.

Subtilior's Nine Eleven Ten is a masterpiece Cherik epic and it’s not done and i can’t be coherent about if for long because of everything. It’s all Stockholm Syndrome and consent and political intrigue and you know what I’m going to stop talking because I’m doing it an injustice. My warning is that NET will eat you, and that you will enjoy it.

More fic rec can follow in another post, more organized and divided out for separate fandoms. It’d probably be best. But those are the favorites that I’m thinking about regularly, so. I hope that’s alright?
