fandom is not a straight space. the vast majority of content creators for fandom are women, trans, or gnc, and the majority of people making queer content are also queer (read: bi women)!! seeing the results of these surveys really changed how i perceive and interact with ppl in fandom, bc despite whatever we might disagree on, these are people who belong in my community - one precious few people in my offline life do
my conservative coworkers don’t care if i ship m/m ships or f/f ones - either is seen as deviancy. my religious dad doesn’t care whether I’m bi or pan - in his eyes, neither identities exist!! and my local government certainly doesn’t care whether i’m anti- or pro-shipping, because they’re too busy defending people’s right to hate speech to pass anti-discrimination laws.
what i’m trying to say is - i wish more people would acknowledge that the majority of us have this huge thing in common!! the queer community is not a monolith, which means we're going to disagree on a lot of things, naturally. AND a lot of us have shared experiences of abuse and discrimination. despite what we disagree abt, we probably have more in common with each other than we think... idk I just feel like that should be the basis of our interactions with each other
