Rufio/Emma: Thunder-stuck
Prompt from @swanemmasavior: Write a Starter of ☁- Our muses in a thunderstorm.
Ru tugged hard on his jacket to pull his collar a little higher up on his neck. He wasn't dressed for the onslaught of rain that had suddenly descended upon the town, and if the quickly-rising puddles along the street were anything to go by, he wasn't going to make it back to his apartment without getting pneumonia. Better find some cover.
He ducked into the library, pulling the slow-closing door shut quickly behind him to keep the rain from following and shook his head roughly to shake out the water from his jet-black hair. The lights were still on, but the place was pretty quiet. Oh well; Ru was sure he must have waited out storms in more tedious places than this. He leaned up against the book cart, bracing his feet in an attempt to push himself onto the flat surface, when he lost his footing and fell backwards, sending the thing flying back toward a stack of shelves waiting to be reinserted into an aisle. The bartender watched, mouth slightly slack, as a domino effect began, books and furniture toppling loudly until the whole door was effectively barricaded.
And then the lights went out. "Whoops," he chuckled, when a noise suddenly caught his attention and he whirled around, squinting at the form in the shadows. "Who's there?" the boy shouted, reaching beneath his jacket to get a firm grip on his knife.
