#swan stuff

This was supposed to be my escape. Times are rough. I don’t need to spend two and a half hours watching lifeboats and hospital ships be blown up by gleeful Nazis who are being used for comic relief and redemption arcs. That’s...not what I need.

Maybe I’ll go watch Coco sometime soon. I need a feel-good film, and Black Panther is a few months out.

The Last Jedi was just super-stressful, and it failed to alleviate that stress. Every time it seemed like you were safe, like you could breathe, it took that breath right back. If I want that kind of feeling, I’ll look up news about world politics. I wanted a movie where things went right. Where things were hopeful. Where we didn’t have a message about “maybe the white boys who are Nazis are just acting out because they feel scared and threatened and you should sympathize with them for that.” Stop being racist. Stop hurting people. Stop being Nazis. Then you don’t have to be afraid.

Except that you do have to be afraid, because if you’re a decent person, you’re going to get blown up. If you try doing the right thing, if you try resisting the inevitable onslaught of autocracy and industry and authoritarianism, you will be blown up. One by one, you’re going to fall. Your friends will fall. Your comrades will fall. You will tire. You will run out of energy. You can’t escape forever. You need to wait for a hero to emerge, because you, the everyday person, are powerless. You’re not strong enough. And everything you love will fade away and disappear.

I don’t need that message. I don’t need that garbage.
