Day 486: Psuetartines (Phone It In 17) Yo! Here is another song made entirely on my cellphone, using the program Caustic. This one- although using very cheesy sounds- is actually a cool idea I wanted to tell you guys about! So, I was reading about music theory stuff the other day, and I came across the idea of polytonality, or songs (or parts of songs) that are in multiple keys at once. One standout example was Sutartines, which are Lithuanian folk songs that have simple melodies which for 3 measures will focus on the triad of a major chord (say G) and then for the next 3 measures focus around the triad of a different major, this one a whole step up or down (so, A or F). This is then sung as a canon, starting at the fourth measure, making it so that G and A are both constantly sung. With my phone, everything has to be multiples of 4 (Caustic ain’t that bright), so I did two measures each of two keys, but instead of a whole step, I did a step and a half: C# and E. This resulted in something that at first was pretty irritating and abrasive, but as it continued and I added bass and drones, it started to sound pleasing.  This Is Definitely And Idea I Will Explore More!!!
