Why Should you Surrender?

 Surrender, it is such a horrible word in today’s world.  We think of it as giving up.  An army surrendering to a superior foe is what we usually think of as surrender.  There are other things that we conjure up in our minds when we think of the word surrender. How about giving up completely. We are taught in our society never, never to surrender or give up. 

But the surrender I’m talking about isn’t this kind of surrender.  It’s surrendering your life to a loving God who cares deeply about you and wants you to have the best life He can give.  That kind of surrender is the way to great things in your life and to have the purpose and dreams He gave you.  Stop thinking that you have to do everything and let God do what He wants to do in your life.  You will accomplish more and do more. 

The Bible says, “Now acquaint yourself with Him and be at peace.” Job 22:21. If you live at peace with God you will have great things happen in your life.  What are those great things?

1.    You experience peace and freedom.  You will experience the “the peace of God that surpasses all understanding.” (Phil. 4:7) You can know that everything including your destiny is in His hands when you surrender to Him.  You will also have the freedom to do what you need to do without fear.  Fear only comes when we are afraid.  With God in your corner you have no need to be afraid.

2.    You experience God’s power.  Overwhelming problems can be overcome if they are given to God.  He has all the power and money in the world.  William’s Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army said, “The greatness of a man’s power is in the measure of his surrender.”  A surrendered person is the one that God uses.

3.    It’s the best way to live.  We are all surrendered to someone or something.   If not to God, you surrender to other’s expectations, to money, to your own pride, lusts, or ego.  He put you on this earth to do something great.  Surrender to Him is the best way to have that great purpose you know you have. 

Sometimes it will take years to totally surrender to God.  I know in my life I have surrendered a lot of things to the Lord. The one thing that I have a difficult time surrendering to Him is my finance.  I struggle with finances because I can’t totally give that are of my life to Him. Therefore, I also struggle with my destiny because I don’t have the finances that I need to fulfill it.  This stops now.  I am going to totally surrender to Him so I can have the destiny that He wants for me. 

It resembles insanity

And comparable to a deep dive into a cold unknown,

A dive which the body never resurfaces to regain breath,

And so it sinks- and sinks and sinks and sinks,

Until he finally stops wiggling,

Until he realizes all the flapping accelerates his descent,

Until he learns that to give in is unlike to give up,

Giving in makes him weightless and it sheds the awful load,

As soon as he yields he will rise quickly for another gulp of breath,
