...history teaches us that notions of justice, dignity and equality are central to human progress. The entire moral edifice of a society collapses if it does not confront the question of inequality (and of human indignity) of hundreds of thousands of humans and livestock in desperate search for irrigation and drinking water, while a handful enjoy the opulence of private swimming pools just a few hundred kilometres away from the drought; or when hunger claims 11-year-old Santoshi in 2017 and 58-year-old Savitri Devi in 2018 in Jharkhand, while we read media reports about how surplus grain is often eaten by rats. We must stand up to one of the biggest challenges of our times and respond decisively.
