Worst part of top surgery is BY FAR the compression vest they’re making me wear 24/7 for the next 3 weeks. I’m so bruised from it already and it’s only day 4.
I hardly ever wore a binder because of POTS so maybe I’m just weak but ough I can’t do this man
under cut for surgery after effects posting, feel free to block the "surgery posting" tag
took two coffees, chewing gum and a fuck ton of water to get rid of the taste of the breathing tube. throat still scratchy but that's tolerable!
not sure if it was like... to calm me down, but they said they were going to give me a mild sedative before the anaesthetic, but they put the drip in, said they were going to sedate me in a moment and the next thing i know i'm waking up two and a half hours later! not even a countdown lmao
lot of heated blankets though which was lovely
they used a nerve blocker as pain relief; i'm 11 hours on and i'm only just beginning to get feeling back in the arm and it burns. not painful, minor annoyance! almost got full sensation back in the little finger!
the surgeon went through what he did after the op, including tell me the procedure was textbook. at the start of the procedure, he dislocated my shoulder to see the damage and apparently it was very easy to do so lmao
he also gave me a set of pictures from the surgery itself and described what they showed which was fascinating and super cool! how often do you get to see your own insides?!
stuck in a sling for 6 weeks MINIMUM apart from showering
they also prescribed me oxycontin and tramadol. luckily i have no reaction other than pain relief to opiate-based medication (i had cocodamol in the past and it was like paracetamol but more efficient) but if i've not used either/if there's any left by the end of next wednesday, i'm taking them back to the pharmacy for disposal. do not want them in the house.
The landlord is touring a plumber thru the house and they keep coming into my room and I’m recovering from surgery like
wtf everyone gave me the impression i'd be completely loopy and hepped up on goofballs when i woke up but i was fully conscious and coherent within about 5 minutes. robbed.

hi vinny i think it's surgery time soon, and i just wanted to tell you i'll be thinking of you!!! i hope everything goes well and that you'll feel better very soon ily 🧡
hi shoop!! <3 it is! currently gowned up and waiting on the procedure <3 thank youuuu 🥺🥰 ly2!!!
(also they gave me cute red ankle socks which are helping me feel better skdhfjfkdl)
oh i have almost full feeling back in my arm and i now understand why they gave me heavy duty painkillers. BIG OW.
keep worrying that my arm hurts because i've done something fucked up to it that's going to slow down my recovery, rather than it hurting because i'm literally 24 hours out from an operation
getting a text from my anaesthetist saying i did really well for my first surgery and should be good for the recovery like
i'm going to get a good grade in surgery. something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve <3
