"Excuse me." Innes fought to keep his tone even, though unbridled rage coated his words. "You are related to... that, aren't you?" He pointed to Rowan with a shaking finger. "I'd like to inform you that he spat all over my flowers, and--!" He couldn't even bring himself to say it. He gestured to the snot on the front of his clothes. "This too was him."
She wanted to be insulted for her brother by the tone this man was using to talk about him. But she couldn't. She had just watched....! Gods, her brother was an idiot!! Bowing deeply in apology Rowan, I'm going to kill you Lianna offered her apologies.
"I am so sorry about this," she said. "I swear he knows better. Mother taught him better than this! Please, allow me to deal with him and here, have a few of my roses instead."
She took a handful of her roses and handed them to Innes before she rounded on her brother.
"ROWAN!!" She marched over and grabbed him by the ear before walking off.

Innes barely resisted the urge to grab him by the scruff of his shirt and dangle him. He grabbed him by the shoulder, instead.
"Must you insist on humiliating me in every possible manner? Do you think this is funny?" Why was Innes asking - of course the boy found it funny.
Of all the things Ewan has seen in his 14 years of life, this is by far the strangest. Forget ghosts, monsters and that one time he accidentally walked in on grandma during her bath. This takes the cake.
The sight of Innes, grown man that he is, scowling with a flushed expression as he walks towards him wearing cat ears. “Geez, what’s with the cattitude?” Even now Ewan couldn’t resist a quip. “You make it sound like this was on purrpose! Hehehe.” It genuinely wasn’t, he left it to one of the assistants to hand out random cards. The stars must’ve noticed all the good karma he’s accumulated and that’s why Innes ended up with the funniest one.
“But hey, I don’t know about you but I’m feline pretty pleased with how this turned out.” The boy said, that same infuriatingly cheeky grin on his face.
[ MINT CANDY ] - For when your breath isn’t as fresh as newly-fallen snow.
"I have the sneaking suspicion you may be eating far too many sweets." Naturally, Innes the busy-body appeared behind Ewan like a threat. Instead of doing much else, he grabbed the boy's palm and dropped a mint into it.
"Please do make sure to brush your teeth."
“And I have a sneaking suspicion that stick is so far up your butt it’s messed up your olfactory receptors! Humph!” Ewan was quick to snap back, cheeks puffing slightly. He’s heard the rumors about these candies! Year after year now they’ve been subtle ways of telling someone their breath stank like a Zombie’s. And for Innes to hand him one so brazenly might as well be a declaration of war.
“Phoo! Phooey! See?! Sweet as a blossom!” Indignantly he blew several breaths at Innes to prove his point. Sure, his breath might smell sweet enough to make a grandpa’s heart explode, but no funky business! At all!
And to think he wanted to give Innes one of his roses at first. Now the guy has no choice but make do with a crumpled looking flower shoved in his pocket. That’ll show him.
The moment she'd given him a present, he made sure to find out when her birthday was, and prepare a gift accordingly.
When the day comes, he manages to find her between classes. Under his arm is a rectangle, wrapped in the cutest packaging he could both find and stomach. She'd always been kind to him, and he'd like to extend the same to her.
"Maria! Hold a moment." He steps in front of her. "I've heard it's your birthday, correct?" He holds out the rectangle to her. "Happy birthday. This isn't much, but I do hope you like it."
Inside, she'll find an anthology of poetry from Frelian poets; he's certain that they'll be new to her, at least.
"Oh!" Maria halts as bidden, floating up onto her tiptoes with the captured momentum. Once she settles back onto her feet, her eyes have already wandered toward the box stowed under his arm. It's adorable -- all soft colors and pleasant shapes -- and her hand quickly reaches for her mouth, fingertips hooking over her lips so that only the corners of a burgeoning smile peek through.
It must have been some small labor of consideration; otherwise why can she so clearly see him debating, earnest and perhaps a little bit consternated, what wrapping she'd like most? Regardless of its bubbly patterning and how it stands at odds with his refined image.
"Hee hee... it is! Good morning, Innes! " So it falls to her to hold the quiet gestures with the affection they deserve. Accepting the proffered parcel, the young princess's fingertips run gingerly over edges and corners, taking care to admire it properly. It isn't hard when her like of it is genuine, and she hugs it closer when she looks back to him.
"Thank you so much!" The box rests against her chin, as if to frame the smile it creates, or the way it shapes her words. Later she will open it-- carefully! -- and read the gift within from cover to cover, then again to be certain. For now, however, she beams. "Hee hee... I love it already!"

When Innes finds Eirika, he doesn't stop searching for Ephraim. His mind trails back to a year ago, when the academy had fallen and Innes thought Ephraim could have been lost in the wreckage. He shouldn't be thinking of it, yet he does.
It's only at the medical tent that Innes sees him. Ephraim looks fried, differently to Eirika, with small laced scars on his skin. Lightning had struck him - more than once - yet Ephraim still looks pleased with himself.
Innes clicks his tongue. “I ought to have known not to worry about you.”
His body is sore and he swears he still feels the aftershocks of that lightning magic running through him, but not even that can dampen Ephraim's spirits. The battles had been fierce and because of that, all the more enjoyable, a true test of his skill and how far he had come. That he didn't make it to the final battle does not deter his spirit either. Rather, he's raring to improve for next year.
"Innes!" He claps him on the shoulder. "I looked for you on the field. I would have enjoyed a rematch."
This time last year the two had been at each other's throats, or rather, his fist to his face. It had been just before this battle. And yet, when they had met on Gronder Field that day, he had forgotten all about the insult to his father and had enjoyed their battle. He would have enjoyed fighting him again, as he always had.
"Brother!" Eirika appears from behind Innes to wrap her arms around her twin. Ephraim's demeanor immediately softens as he returns her embrace. But when they part, Eirika looks up at him with exhaustion. "You look as if you've enjoyed yourself. That is no surprise."
Ephraim sighs and looks between her and Innes with mild amusement. "Ah, you two came to chastise me. I will save you the trouble. I've already seen the healers, see? I'm healthy and hale." He spreads his arms as if that proves it. "Let's watch the remainder of the battle together."
Innes does not care about the battle. How can he, when he knows his closest friend could be in danger? He pushes past injured students and annoyed professors.
“Eirika?” And then, “Eirika!”
He sees her then, exhausted and charred. Innes drops his blade to the ground and runs to her. “Thank the gods. I saw the smoke and I had thought of the worst. I'm pleased to see you're alive.” He gestures for her to follow. “Come. I'll accompany you to the infirmary.”
"innes!" He looks far better than herself. Even after L'Arachel's healing spell, she feels worn. Her clothes are scorched, her hair is a mess, and her heart is heavy. "Wait!"
Eirika hurries to his side and without hesitating, throws her arms around him. She stays like that for a moment and lets go a long breath. "Oh, it was awful. I am so glad to see you safe." Eventually, she pulls back, and takes his hand in hers. "L'Arachel healed me earlier but you look as if you've just come from the field. Let's go to the med tents together."
