Kathen, the kingdom of the fairies, has always been ruled by women. Since they arrived on Suquall over three thousand years ago, the same family has ruled.

The eldest daughter is the heir, while the other children are considered ordinary subjects. They are royals, of course, but when they come of age, they are expected to find a vocation in which to succeed.

The princess takes the throne when the queen dies or abdicates. Until then, if the Queen is unwell, for example, it is the Company who takes charge.

When she ascends, the Queen chooses four people to rule with her -

- A General - A Professor - A Judge - A Master

They usually grew up together and were trained from childhood to rule together. Of course, the newly crowned Queen can change her mind and refuse the person offered for the position.

Kathen is a nation of fighters. From a young age, they learn how to defend themselves and attack. They grow up in a violent environment, where throwing fists is commonplace and bar fights are an everyday occurrence. Life in Kathen is not for the faint-hearted, and you should always be on your guard. In their underground cities, the fairies needed a way to channel that violence, so they created the Arena. It is an association of small and large arenas where professional fighters can fight each other freely while getting paid. The Arena is independent from the government and does not entirely answer to the Queen. Those in charge are called Masters. Each of them owns a stable of between ten and two hundred fighters. Games are broadcast throughout the kingdom via a magical system designed by the Nymians.

‘You're back, Ẹnítán,’ she whispered as he knelt on the azure tapestry, his heart warmed to hear his name spoken in the manner of the ancients. He bowed his head in respect, so as not to impose his gaze.

‘You don't need to bow before me. If anyone should bow their head here, it would be me. Tell me, old friend, what news do you bring? Have you found a purpose for your wanderings?’

He raised his head to look at the girl, barely out of childhood, covered in veils and fabrics the colours of the sea. A century had passed since their last meeting, and yet she had not changed. Omi still appeared as a young girl, like the rest of her village.

‘They're back, Màmá Omi. They were right there, just a few strokes away, and I could have reached them, but...’ Emotion overwhelmed him, making it difficult to speak. He wanted to say so much, but words were too small to describe the conflict that was eating away at him. With a trembling chin, the massive man raised his tear-filled eyes to his friend. ‘I have come to claim my freedom. I cannot bear this chain that binds me to the earth for another second.’
