Echoes of the past display future visions (Evourai fic) TW:Drug abuse, Child neglect
Evourai was walking with Supzec through the forest on their way to the phoenixâs house. The ravenette was talking about this rock from his childhood, the machine hybrid just wondered if Evourai had even been told his obsessions are just a little too random. Itâs not that Supzec is judging Evouraiâs interests, the issue is the obsessive nature of it as the phoenix was telling him about it.Â
A ruffle in the trees silenced the conversation from the ravenetteâs end. Reaching for their weapons, the duo prepared themselves to be attacked, as the sound neared them it got louder, but the machine hybrid could pick up on the vibrations from where the sound was coming from.Â
âItâs an animal.â The brunette is tired and just wants to make it to Evouraiâs base at this point.
âAnimal⌠Can you tell what animal?â
âUh, sure.â Taking a moment to pinpoint the vibrations more and match them to his database.
âItâs some weasel type creature.â
Hearing that, Evourai had put his weapon away and ripped a piece of chicken off from his food rations. He knelt down to the ground while making a ticking sound which called a weasel creature to them. The white furred creature ate the chicken happily and climbed up the phoenixâs arm until they reached Evouraiâs shoulder.
âSnow White, you going to tell me who that is?â The machine had been calling the phoenix after finding out that Evourai had naturally pale skin almost snow like color and pure black hair like Snow White.
âThis is my pet ferret. I donât lock her cage since it makes me sad to see her locked up.â
âWhatâs her name?â
âSnowflake or Yuki. Depending on the situation. Yuki is her actual name, I only use it to reprimand her.â Supzec let out a hum which sounded mechanical.
âHow long have you had her?â This excited the ravenette clearly.
âIâve had her since I was a child.â
They continued their walk to Evouraiâs house. It wasnât a long walk from where they had found the ferret. Just a few minutes and when they arrived the base looked exactly the same from the last time they had seen it.Â
âI was sure hackers and griefers would have found it. Thatâs interesting.â Evourai stepped closer to the staircase. The phoenix felt an unnatural cold breeze, but pushed past it. Yuki jumped off Evouraiâs shoulder and led the bird up the stairs. Supzec was skeptical of this ferret because what animal is this loyal.
He pushed through his skepticism and followed Evourai through the base. Once he reached right behind the phoenix, he saw the reason why the ravenette stopped moving. Pills were scattered all over the floor, panic flooded Evouraiâs eyes.Â
Supzec put his hand on Evouraiâs shoulder and in a calm voice started to speak to him.
âWhat pills are these Evo?â Silence was the response. How did the pills get out? He hadnât attempted anything since Pierce and Zolister left him at 15. Why did it come back? He hasnât been home in forever. Pulling his words together, Evourai managed to speak in a shaking voice.
âPercocet.â Supzec ran a search through his system for the drug. A concerned expression fell onto the machine hybridâs face.
âEvourai. Why do you own so much?â Supzec only used Evouraiâs full name when concerned or trying to get a point across.
âI was 15.â
âThat wasnât my question, Evourai.â The phoenix knelt down and scooped up all the pills. He put them all back in the bottle that was also scattered on the ground with the pills. The machine didnât stop the phoenix from picking up the medication.
As the darkness took over the light of the day, Supzec and Evourai got ready for some rest before talking about their plan for the next day. Yuki, the ferret, was sitting on top of a shelf watching the duo. As Evourai left for his room, Supzec turned his attention to the ferret.
âWho are you?â The machine could detect an inorganic presence from the ferret since the very beginning moment he had met her. Almost mockingly âYukiâ made her way down to the ground.
The moment the ferret touched the ground, the creatureâs form shifted into a familiar human shape, Death. With a smile, Zolister chuckled while his form returned to the one Supzec was too familiar with.
âThis could have gone on longer if it werenât for you being half machine.â
âWhat are you doing here?â The animosity was present in the machineâs voice and it wasnât unwarranted given what Death had put him and Evourai.
âIâm one of his parents, Supzec. I donât think thatâs hit you yet. The shock and face of recognition you saw on Evouraiâs face when I was first released was right. He remembers me despite everything Pierce and I have done to erase his memory. Despite everything heâs done to forget me and Pierce.â He paused as he remembered what the search in his database told him, Percocet has memory loss side effects.
âHe was trying to forget. What was he trying to forget?â A sad twisted smile appeared onto the godâs lips.
âHis childhood. Evourai wasnât meant to come down to the server. He was meant to stay a hidden experiment. Seeing that heâs down here, you can tell that plan didnât work.â His mechanical side was logging everything the god was saying into his database.
âExperiment?â
âEvourai was a test. He was an attempt at life from gods. A mortal life created by immortal beings. Yet he turned out both mortal and immortal at once. Death canât touch him while life refuses to leave his soul.â Phoenix, death is impossible to phoenix, but life runs its love through their blood.
âPhoenix, thatâs why heâs a phoenix.â A small laugh came from Death.
âYouâre much more observant than Evourai. Perhaps depriving him of basic moral experiences caused thatâŚâ
âYou keep mentioning his childhood. What exactly happened?â It was a morbid curiosity, but he also wanted to know how he could help his friend. Zolister instead of speaking simply reached out his hand expecting Supzec to take it. The machine hesitated, but seeing as the god was willingly explaining the background of his friend, he took the godâs hand.
âBetter not be some trick.â There was always a hint of suspicion in Supzecâs voice as who in their right mind would trust Zolister completely.Â
âI can assure you for once, I mean no harm. You wish to see Evouraiâs past and I can show you.â
The surroundings shifted into a different scene. There was a crib, there sat a creature forming from the energy of two gods, Pierce and Zolister. As soon as the creature had formed, Zolister picked it up and held it up to Pierce then a conversation ensued.
âLook at him. Just the finest little thing. Wonder how heâs going to turn out.â There was a scientific yet parental tone in the black haired godâs voice.
âYouâre more attached than I am, and Iâm the sentimental one. What do you want to name him, Zol?â Pierce leaned in and kissed Zolisterâs cheek while wrapping his arms around the other god.
âEvourai.â The blond hummed thoughtfully.
âMind I ask why, darling? Itâs a beautiful name, but interesting.â
âEvo is short for evolution or unfolding. The last part of the name is just for the hell of it. Heâs still an experiment.â A babbling sound came from the baby in Zolisterâs arms. Evourai was awake and active despite only being created a few moments ago.
Pierce took the young one and rocked the baby to sleep. Clearly the blond was the more experienced with children which made sense once Supzec realised that Pierce was life while Zolister was death. Supzec turned to Death, who was showing him this.
âThis is how he was created?â
âYes. Interesting isnât it. Originally Pierce and I were going to keep him around for a year or two to monitor his progress, but we got ourselves attached. We still saw him as more of an experiment than as our child.â The machine had no response. He didnât know what to say to that. It was both heartless yet endearing.
The scene shifted to a different one. A young Evourai was watching Pierce and Zolister work on the server. The phoenix reached out for his parents who didnât notice his need for their attention. Realising he wasnât going to get their attention, the phoenix turned to play with his wings, pulling at them until a feather was plucked out. Only then did the gods turn their attention to Evourai after the feather he plucked turned into a flash of light as phoenix feathers burn into light or ash after being plucked.
Zolister picked him up and scolded him. The young Evourai didnât understand why and simply stopped to get the scolding to stop. Supzec saw how Evourai didnât respond well to criticism, all he was used to was scolding and told not to do anything. Isolation meant freedom, relationships meant expectations and rules. No wonder Evourai spent so much time alone before meeting Boomie. During the time when Supzec and Evourai were traveling through End, the phoenix told the machine everything that had happened up to that moment just to bond with Supzec.
"A shame isnât it. He never did respond well to criticism. Again something Pierce and I should have helped with, but we overlooked it. He was always a second thought in our minds at the time. The server was our first priority. We simply did the bare minimum to keep Evourai alive, but his happiness and contentment with life wasnât considered.â Silence, Supzec couldnât respond. Evourai seemed to have a savior complex of sorts, but also sported a selfish nature. Could it be explained by how he was raised? His own parents putting him last while putting everyone above him? Evourai saw himself as the most valuable yet worthless thing yet. A dichotomy in Evouraiâs ideologies.
Again the scene shifted, this time to an older Evourai who was being yelled at by Pierce. A bottle of Percocet in the godâs hands explained the situation. Supzec turned to Zolister.
âWhat was he trying to do?â
âForgot. He was attempting to forget everything. He was ten. Only ten yet he had seen multiple lifetimes. As he got older, the more he realised we didnât care about him as we did the server. At night, he was learning to use his powers. His powers involve creation. All he did with that power was create memory loss medication. He wasnât creating it, he was summoning it. That night he had slipped up.â The brunette looked at the scene closely.
âThatâs the same bottle from today.â
âIt is. He was taking it until Boomie came to his doorstep.â That caught the machine off guard.
âWhat?â His voice was hollow. His friend was trying to desperately forget the past. The Council seemed to know that. When they were being hunted by Sharpness in the End, the sword master would offer to concuss the phoenix in exchange for releasing Death.
âHe never stopped taking it. When you were asleep, he took it. Addiction canât happen to the immortal, but Evouraiâs desperation to forget turned into an addiction.â The more Zolister said, the more Supzec realised Evourai was both the abuser and victim. He was caught in his own desperation.Â
âThe pills on the floor⌠You wanted me to get him to stop.â A slow nod came from the god.
âAs much as I saw him as an experiment, Iâm still his parent. Even if I never stepped up to that position and left it to Pierce. He has the obsession of an immortal, but the heart of a mortal. Only death can take his pain away, but only life lives in his veins.â It wasnât poetic. Nothing this god could say would ever explain why Evourai was this desperate. If only the phoenix felt safe enough to share this with anyone.
âHas he told anyone this?â
âNo, youâre the first to press into the pills. Even the mentor Evourai idolized never pressed about it. You met Lezy once, after I was âsealedâ again. Did he ask you about Evourai?â Supzec met Lezy after being teleported out of an eternal fall the human seemed concerned about Evourai similar to how a lover would be.
âYes, he did ask me about Evo.âÂ
âHe knew Evourai had past issues, he knew Evourai was using Percocet. Yet every time he got close to Evourai something came up. Whether it be Syntax_Error, the Vikings, or me. Lezy never got a chance to help Evourai through.âÂ
âIf you knew the whole time why didnât you do anything?!â A bitter laugh came from the god. The area turned dark like the void.
âYou think I could do anything? I was sealed when Evourai turned 17. He thought I abandoned him. Pierce made his vow to stop interacting with the players. Guess what? Evourai ran away when he was 16. A year before I was sealed. We lost all connection with him for years. Pierce and I thought he died because he didnât realise he was immortal yet. We both thought he was simply a mortal since we never infused him with our soul. Seems like our souls naturally became entwined with him.â Supzec wanted to yell at the god, but kept his tongue to himself since he was still in the godâs domain.
Once again, the scene shifted. This time it was Evourai finishing his base. A proud smile was on the phoenixâs lips along with a spark of innocence. A white ferret was sitting on top of the ravenetteâs shoulders.
âThatâs you.â Death shook his head no.
âThatâs an extension of my powers. All that extension does is bring Evourai comfort. He always did love animals. Sweet little Evo couldnât bring himself to hurt anything smaller than him. When it came to mortals, or people to put it simply, that's when it changed.â
Before Supzec could say anything, the void changed to show another scene. The scene was Evourai taking a few pills before going out in front of his house to lay on the ground cloud-gazing. It was a childish activity with a darkened meaning.
âClouds. Evourai hated them. Always reminded them of Pierce. He also hated the darkness; it reminded him of me. He found no comfort in light or dark. Only a grey area could comfort him or animals.â
The void turned back into Evouraiâs living room. Zolister used his powers to create âYukiâ then disappeared. âYukiâ made her way to Evouraiâs room, slipping under the gap under the door.
Supzec stood there processing everything Zolister had shown him. The god hadnât distorted anything. That was a lot. Evourai seemed like a flat character, but so much remained buried. The machine walked upstairs to the ravenetteâs room and knocked upon the door.
âEvo, you in here?â A grumble came from inside the room. When the door opened a disoriented phoenix stood there, yet it looked like he hadnât gotten any sleep.
âWhat?â Exhaustion caused the ravenetteâs words to stumble.
âDo you want me to sleep in the room with him?â Relief passed across the otherâs face.Â
âYes, please.â It was a shy voice. A child was locked away in Evourai. That child suffocating in the situations Evourai has been put through. Despite the situations, the child is refusing to die.
The machine hybrid stepped into the room, it was a small bedroom; there were posters of Noob and small bands. Evourai stood in the middle in a sleep shirt two sizes too big and sweatpants. Supzec himself was in a fitting sleep shirt and pajama pants. The phoenix laid down on the bed. He curled into himself, wings wrapping around his torso. The machine laid next to the phoenix and let the firebird be in his embrace. Supzec was a heat source as his processing unit was near his collarbone, Evourai figured that out and clung onto that side of the machine attempting to warm himself.
Warmth of the past has left him cold and shivering. To forget was impossible, to move on tangible. How long had it been since Evourai felt safe to admit weakness? To admit heâs been attempting to either erase his memory or kill himself. Does he know heâs immortal?
The ruffle of feathers and mechanical humming fills the silence. Evourai dozed off in a tranquil state. Supzec laid there thinking about everything he had seen today.
A bird of fire attempting to extinguish himself. A machine left to process. Two gods unable to help their child. Three sharing a past. One interjecting and taking hold in the three.
this looks kike a fucking branzycraft setup
