✾ - Why I chose my character

(( When I was little, I was very sick. I won’t bore you with the details, but I got my own room at the hospital, and anyone that came to see me had to wear a mask. My parents had to put on gowns and gloves if they were going to touch me. I interacted with my baby sister through a window. 

There wasn’t a lot of light in my life. The problem with sick kids, is that a lot of the battle is will. There’s a lot of desperation to keep us going, and my parents were throwing everything they could at me to keep my spirits up through treatment. I guess they’d exhausted a lot of their options, and one day my dad was scrounging around the pediatrics commons for anything to keep my attention. 

He came back with Mutant Milestone: X-men issues #1 through #4.

And there was this really pretty, kick-butt lady that had to wear gloves because she couldn’t touch people. I can’t explain to you what that meant to an isolated, eight year old me. I wasn’t going to die from what I had, modern medicine had come far enough, but when you’re that little, it doesn’t really matter. The comics weren’t provided by the hospital, they’d been left behind.
