It started with a new shop owner sidling up beside her, evolved to a friendship and then became so much more - a co-dependence. Too bad life always has another thing in mind. Working title: Fitzsimmons Fall in Love At Different Times and Realize It At The Worst Possible Moments.

The breath of relief he lets out at seeing there’s a single Doctor Barbie left on the shelf is embarrassing, but he’s tried four stores and they’d all been out, and this had been the only thing Jemma had wanted for Christmas.

He’s reaching for it- his fingertips are literally wrapping around the plastic box- when it’s yanked out of his grip, and he just snaps. “That’s mine.”

“I will literally break your knees for this toy, this is the third store I’ve tried,” the short Asian woman who’d stolen his toy glares up at him. He’s struck by how pretty she is before the irritation returns.

“I’ve been to four, and my fingers were clearly on the package before you snatched it,” he snaps back, and the woman steps closer, features sharp. “This is the only thing my daughter has asked for this year and I need to get it for her.”

“Well it’s the only thing my daughter asked for, and I have to compete with my newly divorced husband to win her affection so I need to get it for her,” she looks aghast as soon as the words are out of her mouth, like she didn’t mean to reveal so much, and Phil’s shoulders drop.

“So you’ve joined the single parent club too?” he replies instead, and it drags one corner of the woman’s mouth up. “I’ve been a member for a few years- the toy is yours. There’s a toy store a few blocks over I haven’t tried yet.”

“Thank you,” the woman says, before she offers a hand. “I’m Melinda, by the way.”

“Phil,” he replies, smiling.

“You know, there’s a coffee place on the way to that toy store,” Melinda starts, and Phil laughs, beginning to walk with her towards the check out. “I don’t drink coffee but they have a mean cup of peppermint tea there and a gingerbread scone to die for.”

“Well now you’ve convinced me,” he replies, winking at her. “I’ll wait for you outside.”

alright so @bioforensics​ and i were chattin last night about a jemma headcanon i have about her guilt and where it originates and she and i both agree that it deserves to be written, but i personally don’t think i’m that strong of a writer when it comes to fanfic.

that being said, i’m opening it up for one of yall to take and run with. if you’re looking for something to write about, feel free to contact me for the prompt. i am more than happy to give it to a writer more capable of writing it.
