What does that tattoo say?
They were standing in line at a small convenience store just off the main street, the kind that smelled faintly of coffee grounds and printer ink. Lara was rocking back and forth on her heels, bored out of her mind, watching everything around them the way she always did.
Thatâs when she noticed it.
The guy in front of them had a tattoo running down his forearm in flowing in what looked like Arabic script. It looked elegant, carefully inked, the letters curling beautifully against his freckled skin.
Lara leaned closer to Damian, lowering her voice.
âHey, Damiâ she whispered, nodding subtly toward the man's tattoo. âYou can read Arabic, right?â
Damian glanced once. Barely a second.
âYes.â
âWhat does it say?â she asked, genuinely curious. âIt looks really meaningful.â
Damianâs mouth twitched.
ââŠIt isnât.â
Lara blinked. âWhat do you mean?â
He looked again, this time a little longer, his expression flattening into something between irritation and disbelief.
âIt is complete gibberish,â he said calmly. âGrammatically incorrect, misspelled, and structured like someone fed random characters into a ai generator and trusted it blindly.â
Laraâs eyes widened. âYouâre kidding.â
âI am not.â
She stared at the tattoo again, then back at Damian. âSo⊠what does it actually say?â
He sighed. âAt best? âStrong fire heart destiny.â At worst? âChair moon running eat.â
Lara clapped a hand over her mouth to keep from laughing. âOh my god.â
âThe calligraphy looks aesthetically pleasing,â Damian added, almost thoughtfully. âWhich is how these tattoos survive scrutiny. People assume beauty equals meaning.â
âThatâs⊠kind of sad,â she said, glancing at the guy again. âHe probably thinks it says something deep.â
âUndoubtedly,â Damian replied. âAnd correcting him would be cruel.â
Lara nodded solemnly. âYeah. We donât do unsolicited truth.â
She paused, then grinned. âSo if I ever get a tattoo in Arabicâ
âI will personally design it,â Damian interrupted immediately.
She laughed. âYouâre really serious about this.â
âI refuse to let you walk around with âspoon destiny warriorâ permanently inked somewhere on your body.â
The line moved forward. The guy with the tattoo paid and left, none the wiser.
Lara leaned into Damianâs shoulder as they stepped up to the counter.
âGood thing I have you,â she said lightly.
Damian huffed. âGood thing you ask before committing to irreversible mistakes.â
She smiled to herself.
