“I figured you’d be here,” he said as he walked over, keeping a careful distance. “It’s where you go when everything gets loud.”

You huffed a soft laugh. “You keep track of that?”

“I keep track of you.”

The words hung in the air longer than they should have. He didn’t take them back.

You leaned your elbows on the railing, eyes fixed on the horizon. The silence was comfortable, but it didn’t take away the heaviness in your chest.

“Jake’s pissed,” you said.

“I know,” Jay replied. “He’s been pacing our room like a caged animal.”

You didn’t answer, just watched the city move below you, lights blinking in patterns that didn’t make sense.

“He thinks you’re slipping away.”

“Maybe I am,” you murmured. “Or maybe he never really had me to begin with.”

Jay nodded slowly, like he understood something you hadn’t even put into words yet.

“He thinks it’s about Sunghoon,” he said after a while.

“And you?” you asked, turning your head to look at him. “What do you think?”

Jay looked at you. Really looked at you. Not the way people do when they’re trying to figure something out, but the way someone does when they’ve already made peace with what they feel.

“I think you’re trying to keep yourself from breaking apart while the three of us keep pulling at you from different directions.”

You stared at your hands, fingers curled around the edge of the railing.

“It’s not like I asked for that.”

“I know,” he said gently. “But it happened anyway.”

There was a pause. The kind that stretched, quiet but full.

Then, softly, you asked, “Why didn’t you ever say anything?”

Jay exhaled, eyes flickering down for a second before meeting yours again. “Because timing is a cruel thing.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“It means,” he said, stepping closer, “that maybe I liked you too. Maybe I still do. But by the time I realized how much, there were already too many pieces on the board.”

You blinked at him, unsure if you’d heard him right. “You’re telling me now?”

“I’m telling you now because I don’t want to be one more person who stays quiet and regrets it.”

There was no pressure in his voice. No expectation. Just honesty. Quiet and real, the kind that settled in your chest rather than demanded a reaction.

You didn’t know what to say. Your throat tightened as a lump formed, too heavy to ignore.

Jay offered a faint smile. “I’m not trying to win something here. I’m not competing with Sunghoon or Jake. I just needed you to know that there was a version of this story where it could’ve been me.”

Your heart ached at that. Not in a confused way. Just from the weight of everything you hadn’t realized you were carrying.

“What if the timing was different?” you whispered.

“Then maybe you’d be looking at me differently right now.”

The wind picked up, brushing hair into your face. Jay reached out instinctively, fingers grazing your cheek before he caught himself and pulled away.

Neither of you said anything for a moment. The silence didn’t feel empty this time—it just felt full of everything unsaid.

“You don’t have to say anything,” he said softly. “I meant it. I just didn’t want to be silent anymore.”

You nodded, eyes stinging a little.

And for a moment, just one brief, suspended second, you wondered what it would’ve been like if Jay had spoken first.

But he hadn’t.

And that version of the story didn’t exist.

Only this one did.

The messy one. The real one.

And you weren’t sure who you were falling toward anymore.

Stop it almost looked like he was going to cry "it was you dad right? Thats why you said friend right? Because your dad is overprotective? Are you not allowed to have boyfriend?" now you felt bad, his usually composed nature turned into a total mess, "i was joking, i am sorry" hugs you tight "well don't play pranks like this again, I got scared" aww poor baby, you had to cuddle him to sleep.

##.SUNOO : gasps hard, very much offended and disappointed at your behavior, acts all childish and petty about it “calling me friend won’t do you any good now, the whole school knows we are dating and be honest aren’t YOU THE embarrassment here” full-on aunty mode “no everyone I am clearing the confusion, I am dating this hot mf so that makes me boyfriend not ‘friend’ i am sorry for the disappointment but she belongs to me, that girl is mine” points at you and speaks like he is doing an announcement, super loud about it, others are probably scared and took a mental note to never fall for you because sunoo can probably sense anyone in 10 meters who looks at you for more than 0.2 seconds let alone make moves at you.

##.JUNGWON : he is petty but on a whole new level “my friend jungwon had-” looks at you with no emotion in his eyes “your friend is it?” you can hear the mockery in his voice “not now jungwon, I'm on the phone” you tired to hush him “yeah okay bro” turns his back on you probably sulking “wonie it was a joke babe” you hung up and hug him from behind “no its alright bestie” and here it starts here, will call you every nickname for a friend, the worst thing is that he says it so casually like its the most natural thing to him, so for the next few weeks you were his bro, treated you like one, it was a painful time but you deserved it.
