Jinns are spiritual beings that exist alongside humans in a different plane of existence. They are mentioned often in Islamic texts, and are a lot similar to humans in terms of their personality and their nature.
They are described to be made of fire according to the Quran, unlike humans which according to the texts, are made of earth like substance instead. Because of this, jinns function differently and have different capabilities. These can include traversing between the physical realm to the heavens above, changing appearance as a form of deception, or causing misfortune. It’s very uncommon for jinns to target specific individuals unless the individual works with jinns regularly or is unusually favoured by jinns due to already working with other forms of magic.
Jinns can be good or bad, they are just as versatile and varied as humans are. However, the more dangerous and malicious ones can often cause harm to humans.
There is a practice that one side of my family engaged in at some point, where they purposefully captured and enslaved jinns using some sort of magic that I am unaware of. This practice is not common in most parts of the world but it is found more in South Asia and also Middle Eastern places. It is often generally called black magic, however in this context, I will be calling this a type of baneful magic as the term “black magic” is more often used in racist connotations to imply that african practices are inferior and “dark”.
Some people in my family deliberately captured these jinns to do their bidding. What my family specifically did with jinns was mundane in itself (one specific grandaunt tried to make a jinn fish for her in a lake 😭), but some often capture jinns and use them to do divination or other forms of more powerful baneful magic such as curses.
Because jinns are able to access certain things that humans alone can’t, they are able to do the work for the human. However, this practice comes with a cost. If proper serious protection is not taken, it is possible for the jinn to harm its captor. While physical harm may be rare, it is not impossible, and because of that, this practice is something that I personally do not encourage anybody to do.
Capturing jinns is a very risky thing to do, and unfortunately, people in my family who did this faced really bad consequences, consequences that may have generational impact onto me, though I am unsure of that at the moment because I don’t know of all the details of what my relatives did exactly. But yeah, people were harmed severely from this practice, and it is not a good idea to attempt this practice out of the blue.
If you have ANY reason to try this, please do your research and NEVER FORGET PROTECTION. Messing with jinns is not something that can be done lightly. It’s a form of baneful magic in that you are intentionally holding a spiritual being hostage for your own benefit, regardless of the intention.
I make this post as a warning and also awareness into the various practices that are out there that can be related to Islamic mythology and Islamic witchcraft because I think not enough people talk about this side of magic. I am no expert in this specific topic, I am simply posting based on the knowledge of my family history and also based on the knowledge of jinns I have as someone who grew up in a muslim family. If there is anything that I may be missing, feel free to add to the post.
