New year, new project excitement. Let's see if I can keep it up.
It started with planning another project. A while ago I blended four braids - Targhee (2x), Polwarth and Polwarth/Silk. I want to spin it up, but I want to sample first.
Which got me digging through the stash for other bits of Polwarth and Targhee. I found in my stash an amazing braid of Targhee from a local dyer with a local theme of Sunflowers and various bits of undyed Polwarth. I love the gradient in the Targhee, but I want to blend. So I measured how much of each color I have (1/6 blue, 1/6 yellow, 1/3 green and 1/3 brown). I also compared the four colors to the my recent dye samples, and decided which dyes to use to get colors I think will blend well (doesn't have to be exact).
I'm pretty happy with my sample dye method, so I broke the Polwarth into 1/2 ounce bits and also dyed 0.4 ounce mulberry silk. I then blended the grey Polwarth with the silk. After that, I blended the Polwarth, Targhee and Polwarth/Silk - 3 batts blue, 3 batts yellow, 6 batts brown and 6 batts green. Each batt was split in 2 and reblended. Still not sure how I'm going to spin it. 2 ply or 3 ply? 4 separate yarns or restore the color progression? If I restore the progression, do I blend up a in between batt?
